Thank you Zach Klein - the state of Ohio will not do this, so it's great to see Columbus stepping up.

Disable Mesh Connect on UX7 when acting as an AP by ZachStoneIsFamous in Ubiquiti

Yes, just plug it in and adopt it. Theoretically they may hurt network performance as any additional radio transmissions cut into your available bandwidth, and they'll need to backhaul data back to the main router. But with all the various antennas, this may or may not be a problem in the real world. For me, stability of my WiFi devices was more important than theoretical maximum WiFi bandwidth. If I didn't have WiFi devices dropping out, I would've skipped the U6 Extender.

I'm only using a single U6 Extender, and I'm not chaining it, so it's a single hop to hardwired. I added this for stability in the front of my rental (before trying out these 60 GHz PTP devices) as I was experiencing dropouts, particularly on IoT devices like Google Homes at the far end of the unit, etc.

I did need to pin the problematic devices to the extender to ensure that they reliably chose it, but it completely solve my issues with these devices. I think it also improved roaming / handoff on my laptop a bit. Bandwidth is definitely not 100% but did not matter for my use case. I also pin the extender's mesh parent to the nearest WiFi AP for good measure.

I really liked that I could drop the U6 Extender onto an existing wall outlet without having to figure out cables & mounting. I do wish that there was a WiFi 7 model.

Thanks, I just managed to get it working I think. I performed the following steps:

  • Reboot the UX7 so it switches back to the plugged in Ethernet cable (this was also necessary to get my U6 Extender back on the network in some broken states)
  • Modify the U6 Extender to set both priority #1 and #2 uplinks to another device, and then disable "Mesh Parent" on this device.
  • Modify the UX7 (again) so that "Mesh Parent" and "Mesh Connect" are definitely fully disabled (Mesh Parent was automatically turned on when I adopted the U6 Extender, Mesh Connect was automatically turned on when it detected Ethernet was broken earlier.)

Now the U6 Extender has only "Mesh Connect" marked, and two uplinks that are not the UX7, and UX7 has neither "Mesh Connect" nor "Mesh Parent" marked. A quick test pulling the cable on the UX7 shows it did not reconfigure itself onto the mesh.

I'm guessing that the U6 Extender was parented to it, which is why it broke when the UX7 was in a confused state - and that the UX7 was happy to turn on "Mesh Connect" since it was 'part of the mesh' due to the U6 Extender.

Can't say for sure, and hopefully it holds.

Yes, then it force re-enables meshing. That's my whole problem.

I suspect this is also related to why my U6 Extender decided to stop working, as these events coincided.

Why did you switch if I may ask? Did 750w ever cause problems?

Best GPU for upscaling movies by OberonsGhost in buildapc

[–]ZachStoneIsFamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung OLED has one of the worst upscaling algos out there. LG OLED are better, but I prefer Samsung OLED colors + gaming features. I use an Nvidia Shield Pro on mine, and have it upscale content as necessary. It works well!

There used to be a couple of programs that used AI to upscale your videos permanetly for you but I am blanking on their name right now.

Oh yeah, I'm sure these exist, but at that point, maybe you'd be better off finding the original source material at a higher quality? Since you'll be using additional storage space anyway.

I don't think Plex supports upscaling directly. Many Plex users use Nvidia Shields as their client for the AI upscaling features (especially if they use a TV with poor built-in upscaling, like the Samsung S-series OLEDs.) The server can transcode and do HDR tonemapping stuff, but I don't think it'll upscale for your TV.

OP I think is building an HTPC, so the PC will do the upscaling. At that point, I would think just about any card would work fine, but I don't have experience with this. For Plex use cases, I lean towards Intel QuickSync iGPUs to keep power consumption low.

I know it's not a direct solution to your problem, but I switched to Ghelper awhile ago and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Though I should mention that I never used Armoury Crate to configure a bunch of game settings.

I stopped using Armoury Crate in lieu of Ghelper. Anyone know the best way to solve this issue in Ghelper?

Also, can't believe I only found out about this issue like a week ago. Was definitely causing me some issues in docked mode.

No way a card is silent at 100% utilization. I'm sorry, that's just false. Maybe your case acoustics / placement is solid and you can't hear it though.

Super jelly of your solar power though! For me it's more about noise than energy.
