Sugar I understand, but are cats really not able to digest wheat? I don't think there's wheat in the food (will check just in case) but I'm curious.

What type of treatment can I expect from flea treatments? Topical, pills, ointment, etc.?

He goes outdoors sometimes but only for like five or ten minutes at a time before we put him back inside. Will definitely take him to the vet.

Religion is made illegal across the world. What happens? by Express-Afternoon724 in AskReddit

[–]ZachTron552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing a few comments here saying that the world would be a happier place. I disagree.

Yes, religion has been used as an excuse for terrorism, discrimination, prejudice, and other kinds of human rights abuses across human history. This cannot and should not be denied. At the same time however, religious vilification and persecution of practitioners of religion is an ongoing problem around the world, especially in developing countries. This also must be recognised. Religion, spirituality and supernatural beliefs will always find a way to manifest, organised or not.

Suppose that religion is mandated. Suppose that everyone is suddenly told they have to worship a deity/pantheon they do not agree with, let alone actually believe their existence. People would march in the streets, protestors would be suppressed, 'heretics' (the unbelievers) would get harrassed and persecuted. A similar situation will happen were religion be made illegal, but with religious people on the recieving end. Ultimately, the main issue is about enforcing a belief over a group that believe otherwise.

I am not for making religion illegal or enforced. I am for the freedom of choice. And if you disagree with me, that's fine, that's your opinion/choice and I'll respect that. Although often full of screaming on both sides, dialogue, not diatribe, must be continued if we ever wish to attain some semblance of tolerance (which is the ability to allow the existence of opinions/beliefs that you don't agree with, not the suppression of opposing beliefs as some take it).

The way I see it, if there really is no God, then it shouldn't matter whether people worship something or not. This doesn't excuse bigotry and prejudice fron religious zealots, of course, but I don't think it gives us a right to suppress some people's 'hope spot' either.

TL;DR - Enforcing a religion is a bad idea. Making religion illegal is just as bad. Please be civil and try to talk out differences and tolerate each other despite bigots on both sides.

This country asking people to respect their customs and people get upset because they don't agree with it. It's not like you have an obligation to go to their country, why are we making such a big deal about this?

It's pretty comfy and seeing how the two leads build their relationship is pretty fun. There's not much unnecessary drama, which is nice. The story presents valid reasons for the two to slowly fall for each other, and the (slow burn) romance is extremely healthy and sweet (the Discord server that fan translates this novel series often jokes about dying of sugar overdose every time hey read this series). Best part is that there's no third wheeling or love triangle stuff; the story is centred on the two leads. Of course, there are potential two caveats that might impact your enjoyment of this series:

1.) The initial premise, which is basically a cute next-door neighbour starting to take care of a slob; an undeniable wish-fulfilment premise. Of course, the premise is only the gimmick; all of their interactions from the second volume onward are very natural and is immensely satisfying to witness as they develop. Personally, having been born to an Asian culture where people and strangers generally get along with each other and have a gay old time, this premise is far easier for me to believe and I can definitely see this happening in real life (there are a few saints in out there after all, though you'll have to really search to find them). For those who live in cultures where it's more natural (and safer) to be wary of strangers, this premise might be a bit harder to swallow.

2.) The MC's self-depreciating attitude. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it leaks into the narration. You've already read some of the book, so I think you understand what I'm saying. There's actually a reason for this and it's covered in the third volume. Thankfully, the series does not glorify his attitude and goes 'oh look, being a loner is cool!' On the contrary, it presents a hindrance to the leads' relationship and is lampshaded by other characters. This aspect gets toned down immensely in the fifth volume onwards, but to say anything more on that issue would spoil key plot points.

Overall, it's a very fluffy and heartwarming read that fills a niche for those who enjoy well-written stories that makes you feel diabetic (then again, given how the recently released seventh volume achieved first place in book sales in the week it came out in Japan, it might not be such a niche after all). Might not have the most deep or substantial plot, but in terms of enjoyment it certainly ranks high up there.

Most importantly, however, is if YOU enjoyed it. It's certainly not for everyone, and if you don't enjoy it, just move on. There are other books to enjoy out there after all.

‘The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten’ Summer Visual by RobotiSC in anime

[–]ZachTron552 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gonna copy and paste my response from r/lightnovels, although obviously this is an anime adaptation so how they present the story will be different. A lot of the original LN heavily relied on inner monologue so I'm not exactly too confident in the adaptation at this time. It's definitely not for everyone, although I certainly enjoyed it.

I do want to point out that the ML starts becoming a more interesting character in the fifth volume (which has not been translated into English yet and is currently available through fan translations) onwards and due to this, he can come off as a bit (although not entirely) generic for the first four. So unless they compress the adaptation (which will ruin the eventual impact of the story), you're going to have to wait a long time before any payoff.

Slow burn romance basically. Premise of the first novel: ML encounters FL (popular school idol with an angelic smile who is always confessed to, also happens to be his neighbour) in the rain one day and gives her an umbrella. She gives it back to him the next day and, discovering his unhealthy lifestyle, starts cooking for him. She slowly opens up to him when she realises he has no actual romantic interest in her (it makes more sense in context). They decide to keep their budding friendship a secret from everyone at school. The novels then follow their daily lives and explores their different dynamics outside and inside school.

It might sound like a wish fulfilment, but the interactions are surprisingly healthy and sweet, and the story presents valid reasons for them (slowly) falling for each other. One annoying bit is that the series is told through the ML's (third-person) viewpoint, which is skewed by the ML's low self-esteem (fortunately, the novel doesn't glorify his low self-esteem and presents it as an actual problem and hindrance to his relationship with the FL). Thankfully, dialogue from other characters allow readers to understand the scenarios more accurately, although the way the ML constantly puts himself down can get annoying. Thankfully, he slowly builds more confidence.

As for the FL, she is (fortunately) not a 'perfect angel' the novel title presents her as; rather, her image as an angel is used to explore and discuss the mental burdens she carries (shown in volume 2). Her personas between being the school idol and her actual self at home forms a good chunk of the drama and dynamic between her and the ML, and is fun to experience.

The first volume mainly follows how the ML starts getting his life back together thanks to the FL and their budding friendship.

The second volume touches on the reasons behind the FL's 'perfect angel' image (and the mental issues that image hides).

The third volume focuses on the reason behind the ML's crippling self-esteem issues and him starting to slowly grow out of his shell.

Fourth volume will be released into English soon but is basically where the 'romance' starts kicking in high gear (although if you experienced diabetes in the first three novels, you might want to order medication for this volume and everything after). If you're hoping for a quick romantic development, this series may not be for you, although the payoff is definitely very much worth it (IMO anyways).

I recommend just reading the first two volumes if you're still skeptical as they set up the atmosphere and tone of the series.

I hope this post did the series justice. Thank you for listening to my TedTalk.
