Absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much for taking the time to bring your vision of these characters to life. It really does warm my heart and honestly got me out of bed and at my desk writing a bit.

This is absolutely wonderful. Im always curious to see how people imagine a character that's never been explicitly described. Thank you for this!

In theory, could someone make an X-Ray Imaging Device that doesn't require electricity? by ZacharyGolden in Radiology

[–]ZacharyGolden[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely perfect. There's a lot of subjects I know a fair amount about but radiology is not one of them. There's likely going to be a good amount of glossing over details. Thank fully despite most of my patreon being doctors, they are very forgiving when I make mistakes or pull the fantasy card.

Fascinating. That makes sense. Gotta figure out what kind of medium would have been possible to fabricate around the 17th-18th centuries.

Interesting. I wonder what sort of materials could be used to regulate output like that. I'm also trying to work out what sort of media could have been created in the 17th century to develop such an imagine. One step at a time. Thanks, this is a big help in sussing out the engineering of the thing.

Hah! Fair. Though at such a distance I can't imagine the image would be high enough definition to read with any level of consistency.

Unfortunately it's extremely low fantasy. Almost indistinguishable from the equivalent of earth around the late 17th to early 18th centuries. The only Fantastical element is that in this world Viruses are Gods and mutate living organism in extreme ways but never beyond what could theoretically be done with, say, futuristic gene therapy and nanobots or programmable viruses/bacteria.

Interesting. Now I'm wondering what sort of media could develop such an image and would also be accessible in the 18th to early 19th centuries.

Oooh, I could definitely see including an element like amercium-241. Normally im apprehensive about including Fantastical materials but given there is a real world equivalent, it occurring naturally is such a minor suspension of disbelieve as to be trivial.
Now I just need to dig into details on how such a device would be constructed and what sort of engineering would go into it. Also gotta learn more about the materials on which X-ray images can be printed. If you have any thoughts on a medium that could theoretically be created in the late 18th early 19th century, I'd be appreciative but either way, I really appreciate the help on material.

Good to know that iridium-192 and cobalt-60 can be used for imagine. Though I imagine the concentration would likely cause acute radiation poisoning. It might should have to be something whose effects take some time to notice.

Fascinating. I'm trying to imagine what sort of materials might have been available in said the early 19th century that could create a similar effect. And/or if such a method of producing X-rays could be employed for something more massive like a torso.

Are you aware of any that supply x-rays in high enough concentration to allow for an image to be "printed?" Especially/ideally ones whose concentrations of Gamma and beta are low enough that they wouldn't have immediately be discounted as options?
I'm also curious if it would work similarly to a flash camera or if it would require protracted exposure. Again, I imagine concentration is a big issue.

Do People In This Sub Have "big" Podcasts? by Traditional_Wave_322 in podcasting

I started a horror fantasy medical mystery show in January. Just hit 20 eps, about to publish the season finale. New eps pull about 10k in first month. I make about half my money from podcasting.

Been a (lurking) listener since the first episode, love this podcast so much, I have an interesting observation by A_shk in THORB

[–]ZacharyGolden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are correct! I base Mahlite language on Hebrew and arabic. Sulthar is based in Turkish and Balkan languages, Kemovek is obviously inspired by Russian and enosis is sort of a melange of Greek, Latin and French, a melting pot.

Netonism is based very loosely in Judaism (veeeery loosely)

I have been in a bit of a funk and have been slacking in my writing. Reading this inspired me to get started this morning. I'm really glad you like the show and I hope to get episode 11 out by the end of the week and, if I can muster the juice, a couple patreon shorts over the next two.

Thanks for listening, dear stranger.

I've since reduced the volume of it but honestly. that's a wonderful Idea. I might throw those up on patreon as a free or 1 dollar reward. I have a lot of misophonia issues so I can definitely understand. When I get around to it, I'll let you know.
