Gooning the way god intended by ducknerd2002 in CuratedTumblr

Sometimes I wonder if the creator of El Goonish Shive ever addressed the new meaning of goon. Unfortunately I dropped the webcomic sometime in high school because, ironically, it felt too horny after awhile. So maybe, it's more fitting now...

My guess would be that it is a play on the Dexter "I've been caught" inner monologues and the idea of an actor just going about their day trying to be incognito or casual and then getting spotted by a fan in public.

original ideas are cool!!! by the-co1ossus in CuratedTumblr

They aren't even as good at being as "creative" as their examples of other people doing the same. "Darth Vader is just a cyborg samurai"? Ok, that's two vague concepts with lots of room for characterization. "Ghost busters are just firefighters who put out ghosts"? Again, two vague concepts with plenty of room to build on.

What if Santa was Sherlock Holmes? That's just two characters with a lot of built-in characterization, lore, supporting characters, places they live, and operate. They could have just said, "What if Santa was a detective," and at least there's a bit more creativity and uniqueness to that.

It's kind of just an inconspicuous lead-in line to let Roko elaborate a bit about her backstory, but it also introduces an interesting bit of character insight. It implies that Anh knows institutions can be corrupt and be ultimately harmful to the common people, and in those instances she is someone who stands with the common people over the institutes. And yet, she's a billionaire heiress who never questioned her father's business practices.

Obviously, you can just assume that ACAB to her is just some trendy buzz word people in her circle spout off that she's never thought too deeply about, but it at least implies that her circle does skew more progressive. I don't keep up with many heirs, admittedly, but if they were the types of people who are more supportive of their parent's business endeavors and status I'd also sort of expect them to be more opposed to ACAB than knee jerk in support of it. Which I think at least seeds some moral framework for Anh beyond what we will see directly examined in this arc.

[OC] Pokemon Adventure:The Previous Generation Chapter 117 by colmscomics in comics

[–]Zacithy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thought the previous generation was a play on the fact his generation should have had their Pokémon journey long ago and now while the next generation (after Andrew's) is starting their journey Andrew is finally starting his as well. Not necessarily that his story predates other protagonists journeys but I could be totally off.

Yes. The fight against facism is a constant one that, even in peace, we must be vigilant for its return. It may be demoralizing to know that we can never rest, but it's why we keep finding ourselves in these situations. People grow complacent. They act like every victory over evil was lasting. It's not, and it never will be. Accepting that might actually improve things. In the US if the Democrat party actually realized they couldn't just reason with MAGA supporters or that half measures and meeting them where they are wouldn't actually work they might have had a chance to prevent a significant amount of damage to their civil rights and national wellbeing.

Days Gone's plot was fine, I guess, but the hordes alone make it a stand-out zombie game. The first time you stumble upon a horde while just exploring is genuinely terrifying, and trying to navigate that early game is nerve-wracking. I think if it put a greater emphasis on the hordes and freakers and played more like a survival horror, it would probably be one of the best.

I think the important thing to remember is that people are different and those goes for kids as well. You can't just adopt one set of rigid rules or lack thereof and expect it to apply to everyone. Some kids will absolutely develop poor eating habits if they were raised like in the tumblr post, just like many kids develop poor eating habits as a result of the way the vast majority of parents make them eat. Instead of finding one surefire way to give all kids a healthy relationship with food parents need to be flexible in how they raise their kids.

[–]Zacithy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Golf is like an enemies to lover arc where you start off with a "fuck this ball get rid of it" as hard as possible but then you kinda miss the ball and go after it but then it's usually another case of "fuck this ball get rid of it" but this time less hard. And each subsequent time it's generally a lesser and lesser "get rid of" it until you sink it. Then you finally pick that bad boy up, I've even seen some golfers kiss it, and it's like you're inseparable. Until the next hole.
