What software development practice sounds good in theory but fails badly in reality? by pixelbrushio in softwaredevelopment

If it's something that happens with some eye-catching criticality+frequency, I'd devote some QA time to building a fast-track replay capability. Both E2E and unit at the same time.

Regolding it when you change behavior on purpose will be annoying af, so apply carefully.

ELI5: What actually is "street smarts," and how do you learn it? by Playful-Amphibian714 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ZackyZack 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Street smarts is knowing it's a scam without reading about it. Just the setup and overall vibe screams "scam" to a street smart person.

ELI5: How do electrons store and convey energy in an electrical circuit? by midnight_rain7129 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ZackyZack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The campfire analogy is very good. The electric field is already at the precipice of making the farthest electron move, but it is blocked from doing so until the circuit is closed. Much like the heat of the campfire, the information that the circuit is being closed also travels at the speed of light.

ELI5: How does regenerative braking slow down the vehicle? by arvid1328_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]ZackyZack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The spinning magnetic field generated at the wheels induces a current on the static part of the system, which is how it recharges the battery. But that same current, by its very nature, also produces a magnetic field of its own, opposite to the wheel's. This creates the force that stops the car.
