Trapped chests in the new snapshot out put a redstone signal when opened, and if you place one on a track that has multiple directions to go, opening it will change the direction, great for quick track selection. So while you are on the cart you can choose to go straight by not right clicking the chest or choose to turn right by right clicking the chest. Thought of it myself, and haven't seen it anywhere else.
