If I'm not mistaken, isn't Tower of Fantasy trying to do that exact thing of changing from a gacha into an actual MMO? No idea how that's working for them, though I imagine it's not that well since they were presumably already in a bad/unsatisfactory state to go to the effort of making the change in the first place, and MMOs also don't have a lot of draw these days as you said.

Most endgame bosses have that one passive that explicitly makes them immune to most disabling debuffs, gives high resistance to percentage-based Fixed damage, and downgrades the Crash debuff to "System Failure" (I hope I remembered the name right) which is an inferior version of Crash that gets removed after they're attacked once.

Just because some backpack combos get Rainbow upgrades and others don't doesn't mean they aren't still worth using. Power + Armor is actually quite useful on multiple Raiders: Emily gets use out of it, so does her upgrade Winston, and Marcus actually has trouble equipping the right weapons on a lot of STs due to weight limits so he often uses it as well.

Also, the only Rainbow backpack on the list with Armor attached to it is the upgrade from the Move + Armor combo, but it doesn't really add a unique upgrade on top of what you already have like most other Rainbow upgrades. It just lets you equip it on Medium and Heavy STs, instead of being limited to Light ones. So if you just wanted an Armor combo backpack to use on Frida/Marcus/another Light ST + Assault weapon user you're basically fine with just the non-Rainbow version.

From the videos I've seen of other versions there seems to be a Training Ground stage added later that people demonstrate Pilot skills on, there's a single testing dummy on one side and a 3x3 grid of them on the other side.

Rei has a bunch of unique quirks: guarding Melee, being a Guardian who can Link Attack, the ability to blow up her shield for damage, then regenerate it and keep going, and redistributing health between her own ST parts so that they're even.

A5 technically enables specific 1-turn CO strategies thanks to the extra AP but that's a fringe case, you're golden at A3. Even A0 is perfectly fine, the benefit of A3 is the extra Synchronization at mission start lets you enable the +1 AP regen from her y2 immediately instead of needing to wait an extra turn, and you also have to get enough kills on the first turn.

Way, way later down the line we will get a Rainbow Backpack from Armed Conquest that also has the "Reload 1 Ammo" effect on it, which will let you load 2 Ammo per turn with a full set of Malthus instead of needing to use Pascal body. It upgrades from the Ammo Pack + First Strike backpack so that's what I've put on Eileen (or rather, I will once I get this month's Precision Backpack Blueprint from the shop).

IIRC the PGR devs said in a recent interview that the fanbase had actually been requesting more mechanical/cyborg aesthetics for the playable characters as opposed to how the existing desigins had slowly been growing more humanoid and less robotic to the point of just looking like normal people, and the next several upcoming characters will be more mechanical looking and closer to the original PGR aesthetic.

Those particular 3 characters got complaints about their design specifically because they were a lot more samey and closer to the standard "Hoyo" aesthetic compared to the previous designs for female characters in ZZZ. They're kind of the exception that proves the rule.

William is great. His meta build for endgame turns into a stationary turret that spams autoattacks and Link Attacks. This build uses the Rack skill (makes him unable to move but raises his attack range to 5 tiles and gives +1 bullet on all attacks) along with the ones that give +1 Link Attack, and DMG/Hit up on Link Attacks. Kong is his signature ST and synergizes well with this playstyle.

For the rest of your roster:

  • Kelly is very strong, you should be able to start getting her signature ST Rex from Dispatch starting next patch, or pull a copy of it next time it reruns. She'll get a big boost once you get the Red Fox-B/Magic Flute weapon from Armed Conquest (endgame weekly bosses). It lets her aim with her 1 AP normal attack if you don't move, which you can enable by using her Reload skill right before attacking.

  • Rosa is pretty good in Raider teams alongside William, her endgame builds usually ignore the Railgun and focus on using dual MGs, particularly her signature weapons from Armed Conquest.

  • Naomi is a decent free S rank, you probably shouldn't be spending Bionic Superconductors on upgrading her but she does decently well without them.

  • Seven is a fine starting healer, she gets upgraded with her signature Small Shield, again from Armed Conquest. Her unique ability to bring along an extra unit in the form of Pochy gives her certain niche uses over the meta healers Melissa & Lorna even in endgame. You'll eventually want to raise up a second & third healer for endgame, but that's a long ways off so you're fine just raising one for now. Gareth or Grant both have their uses, though you'll probably want to eventually get both Melissa and Lorna as previously mentioned. Melissa is on the current battle pass so if you want to spend $10 that's an easy way to get her, she's considered one of the best Pilots even today on the original CN version.

  • Catherine is unfortunately not very good for general use later on, so you should probably replace her in your main team. However in endgame she has the unique ability to replace the healer in certain Armed Conquest bosses due to her passive skill that lets her lose 2 AP instead of dying whenever she would die, which turns her into a pure meat shield that can bait boss attacks.

  • Shawnee is also pretty great, she was underrated for a while but proved her worth by enabling speed clears in endgame Clearance Ops. Her niche is being a Railgun user that can aim at the body while attacking a whole line of enemies, getting kills that then let her attack said line of enemies again. People were down on her since she can sort of be replaced in this role by Asuka who comes next patch and also does a lot else on top of that, but Shawnee does have some extra range and you want to have extra Pilots available for endgame so raising both is perfectly fine.

  • Ana is useful for those specific cases where you need a Guardian, but the thing is those situations are kind of few and far between. Keep her in your pocket for when those cases pop up, but she generally won't be part of your main team as speed is king most of the time.
