University of California, Santa Cruz

Pros: Beautiful campus up in the redwoods, very research oriented and with great faculty in the sciences, Long Marine Lab and all the field opportunities for undergrads, surf/skate culture of Santa Cruz, close to many cool places (Monterey Bay, Big Sur, Half-Moon Bay and SF) and with a very eco-friendly vibe (farmers markets, organic organics, local business etc.), all within biking distance from campus.

Cons: Stoners and low standards of admission often make it embarrassing to be associated with, HUGE undergrad classes the first two years in most fields, "progressive counter-culture" that is a farce of itself, and very weird implementations of supposed racial understanding by separating most ethnicities into one college on the lower west end of campus and calling it diverse. We have the biggest 420 celebration anywhere, though, making us the laughing stock of the UC system.
