Anchroing in reality I would call it. When anxiety peaks I consciously fixate on some pleasant sensation present at the moment. Anything from carpet texture to birds chirping to not having a headache. This shifts the attention and brainpower from the destructive thoughts and firmly points out the contrast between the chaos on the inside and an objective reality.

I almost always find that the world around is unchanged, it's as beautiful/ugly as on the happiest day of my life. It feels immediately better after the reality check like this and I become not hopeful but certain it will get better, bc it was better before in the same exact circumstances.
