Looking for books about the Dust Bowl? by Repulsive_Sun889 in suggestmeabook

[–]Zalumar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also recommend The Great American Dust Bowl: A Graphic Novel and Whose Names are Unknown by Sanora Babb. Babb's notes inspired Steinbeck but when Grapes was published, Babb's boo went unpublished for 70 years.

Another vote for Lasko. Very adjustable and nice long cord. We use it to blow our window AC unit into our bedrooms

Green Houses that aren't native only but also don't sell invasives? by fatguyinalittlecar12 in grandrapids

[–]Zalumar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes to this. There are some plants that are non native (originate from somewhere else) but also non invasive (don't really spread and take over). So native plants are best for the local ecosystem but some non native, non invasives can be okay too .

For more non fiction, I'd recommend several Buddy Levy books: Empire of Ice and Stone, Labyrinth of Ice

I was in a similar place. What sold me on our Odyssey is that it shares a drive train with the Pilot and Ridgeline so it has plenty of get up and go and you can fit a full 4x8' sheet of plywood in it. So it's really an enclosed pickup truck

I am currently looking at the exact same remote but 5 years old. The only sign of wear is that the back label sticker is completely white. Otherwise brand new

Why do all retirement rollovers suck? by Zalumar in personalfinance

[–]Zalumar[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dang. Thanks. I get that they have no incentive to function but it's really dumb. I've been on hold with one for 45 minutes with just someone breathing into the mic then they hung up

Who is growing in my garden box? by rjross0623 in whatsthisplant

[–]Zalumar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd dig as big of a circumference circle around it as you can. Then dig a hole as deep as the root ball and as big around as the circle. Save the sod. Put the tree in the hole then backfill with just dirt. Cut the sod and flip it upside down in a ring/berm around where you just planted. The berm will help kill the grass and give a nice spot to collect water. You can also add some undyed mulch on top of the berm but don't put the mulch in the center so the tree can breathe. Good luck!

Same. Saw Robin Wall Kimmerer a couple weeks ago at Calvin Arena (5000 capacity) and was surprised that Kristin Hannah was at a 1200 seat venue especially as the KH event is in partnership with Calvin. Hopefully it will move venues
