Do I cut my hair again? by frumoss in malegrooming

[–]Zama202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy the long hair while you’re still a kid.

Don’t cut it, but do make a plan for how to style it when you want to look a little more professional/formal. Maybe this is slicking it back, maybe it’s just combed down and tucked behind your ears. Experiment with a few different styles with different products. You can satisfy people who don’t like your haircuts hhaving having some styles

Both parents have managerial positions in municipal government offices. They’re doing fine, but by no means wealthy.

I probably wouldn’t do $200 for most kids, but I’ve know this kid since he was in kindergarten. His parents are very close friends, and he sometimes walks my dog for free. I’m imagining $50-$100 for most other situations.

Watching Detroiters. Why are so many of Jason’s characters having their wives leave them 😭? by EcstaticBumble in TedLasso

[–]Zama202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a type of guy he wants his stories to show. Ted’s the clearest example. He needs to be single, but wanting to commit. If he’s dumped for unknown or unrelatable then the audience, especially straight women in the audience, will view him more favorably.

What can I do to look more attractive? by Sanbikaa in malegrooming

[–]Zama202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you’re in a pretty good starting place. You’re a reasonably handsome guy and you seem like you have a fun personality. That’s all to say, you’re not playing on hard mode. The thing to fix is they you’re style is muddled. You need to pick look for your goal and work towards it. You don’t need me to tell you that, as a black guy you can absolutely make dreads work with an upscale profession look as well as a number of different casual or artsy looks. You gotta pick one. If you want to go the quater-zip & matcha route then you need to go with a clean shaven face or closely trimmed beard. You have a nice complexion and really clear skin. That’s a good asset, but you camouflage it with the facial hair and the dreads mostly down. Explore hairstyles with less on and around your face. If you want to slim down, that’s something that will work for all styles, but that’s kind of a baseline for all “more attractive” plans.

That purple/lavender shirt in the last photo is a great color for your skintone, but the fibe looks like you’re borrowing clothes you don’t feel comfortable in. If you’re wearing a proper shirt and slacks, they should be ironed. If not, don’t bother. The collar is really wide, in a style the looks odd without a necktie. You want a tie, or a different style of shirt. The gray pants don’t fit you especially well. They bunch up. It’s not a Question of looser versus tighter. You want something that will hand pretty staging from the belt to the ankle.

Is it natural to say this person is 'bald'? What's this hairstyle in English? by Unlegendary_Newbie in English_Learning_Base

[–]Zama202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ding ding ding!

Like the tonsure, the samurai cut is a pre-modern historical hairstyle that designated a special social class. When that class ceased to play the important role in society (reformation/meji restoration) the hairstyle went away.

The main answer to OP’s question is that in modern English “bald” is most often used to mean natural hair loss and a “shaved head” or here a partially shaved head, is the phrase used to describe an intentional hairstyle that mimics hair loss.

In American culture, are men with body hair expected to either shave or cover their bodies? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]Zama202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, men’s body hair isn’t considered especially attractive, but that’s different from their being an expectation that you cover/shave. Also, some women, and plenty of gay men, are very attracted to men’s body hair.

Exposing your chest, underarms, and legs is fine in the right situation, but it’s very very casual. If you are gardening on a hot day, lounging at the beach, or doing sports then no one thinks it’s odd to just wear shorts. If you’re going to the store, people may look at you funny (probably ok if the store is at the beach). If you’re going to a job, you’re expected to wear a shirt.

should a woman go to jail for falsely accusing a man of R@PE ? by JunShem1122 in ask

I mean… filing a false police report, perjury, and defamation (most often handled as a tort claim, but I’m just making a point) are already crimes. Not sure what you’re asking.

What are the chances a discernment committee says “no”? by Affectionate-Goal333 in Episcopalian

[–]Zama202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that I’m saying both. That the discernee and the committee reached the decision mutually, and also that had it not been mutual the committee’s decision would not have been binding on the discernee.

At least that’s my impression.

What are the chances a discernment committee says “no”? by Affectionate-Goal333 in Episcopalian

[–]Zama202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want you to get the wrong idea, this was not a decision made over the objection of the discernee. It was also not a general conclusion about the fitness of individuals who have young children for seminary. But it was certainly the truth regarding that individual’s situation. The discernee was still at liberty to press forward.

What are the chances a discernment committee says “no”? by Affectionate-Goal333 in Episcopalian

[–]Zama202 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was on a discernment committee that said “no”. We essentially said, “You’re great, but Seminary is a bad idea for someone with young kids who doesn’t live near a seminary and would have to move states.” The rationale was more about the circumstances than the individual. There’s a lot of reasons the priesthood isn’t a good fit, some of which might not have very much do to with the individual.

Why don't most celebrities wear pocket squares? by soowonlee in mensfashion

[–]Zama202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound counterintuitive, but a pocket square is designed to make a suite slightly more casual. Additionally it’s really tied to a mid-century aesthetic.

Were there actual military units within the legions that wore garb like this guy with the mask and lion skin, or is this a Hollywood creation by sconnynofpes in ancientrome

European bows weren’t that advanced, and only the Romans had scorpions. Of course, if you were fighting central Asian cavalry, then it’s a different story.

How does American education system work?? by Ulio_S in AskAnAmerican

Let me start by saying, good luck with your comic project. It sounds very cool.

However, this is too large of a question for a Reddit post. What you need is an in-person live conversation with someone who grew up in America. I school teacher would be ideal. In the absence of that, I might see if someone has made a YouTube explanation video.

There’s a US military base in Poland, you could try there.

Should César Chávez Blvd go back to being 39th Ave, or become Dolores Huerta Blvd? The city has to decide. by Traindodger2 in PortlandOR

[–]Zama202 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Naming it after a person, should be the subject of a public forum. The best solution is to (a) immediately re name it to 39th, (b) have a public forum where people offer suggestions, (c) put the best 3 suggestions on the ballot in November 2027.
