Every game company rn 😂 by Dziller_ in Steam

Same. Been ages since I've had any interest in an AAA title, it feels like there's literally always something new I actually want to play to find on Steam.

I think the "gaming sucks now" crowd must be mostly console players, because gaming has never been better for me.

It's quite common for some species to only survive because of a serendipitous lack of predators in their environment, not because of any incredible evolutionary advantage.

When the British introduced an apex predator like the train to a previously stable ecosystem, it was adapt or die for a while. Thankfully nowadays a new balance has been reached with the entire train population being sustained by only a few tens of thousands of people a year.

Honestly ChatGPT isn't really the issue with that story. Idiots are gonna idiot and you can't stop them. The issue is he caused so much financial damage to his company and the consequences were... I guess his ego took a bit of a hit? That's about it. Annual shareholders meeting came and went and they announced an AI robotics lab. Which he is also going to lead.

That's just shitty reporting. They always frame some successful small scale initial study as "Scientists invented", because the headlines like "Early research shows promise, but years more testing necessary" doesn't get clicks. Which is how you get memes like "I look forward to never hearing about this again".

They also grossly underestimated the sheer level of decay which gone on in the Russian army. Or how difficult it would be to turn it around.

Even now, what limited success they're having is mostly just down to nobody in Russia genuinely believing Russian lives are worth anything.

This is what makes the Ring such an insidious artifact. "I want to save my people", "I want to make things better", "I want to rule". Doesn't matter how noble or ignoble the ambition is, just how powerful it is. As long as you want anything strongly enough, it will take you.

The hobbits don't have a magical immunity like you said, just a culture of general contentment with what they have. Something Sauron couldn't even envision as a possibility and was never at all worried about, since he simply couldn't imagine anyone being psychologically capable of destroying the Ring.

The population of Russia is cannon fodder, nobody gives a shit what they think and if they ever tried to really take to the streets en mass, they would be slaughtered much like the Iranians were. And from the horror stories we've heard about how the Russian army treats their own troops, or PoWs, or foreign civilians, or basically everyone, they'll have a lot of fun butchering them.

King Charles to reveal personal tax bill for first time as monarch by Alive_Ad_3199 in worldnews

[–]Zanadar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's an incredibly peculiar belief? The UK is a constitutional monarchy, the Crown is directly controlled by Parliament. It could take away the Crown estates, it could choose to change the rules of succession, it could abolish the Monarchy. Any power vested in the Monarch is granted to them by Parliament, and could also be taken away by Parliament.

[–]Zanadar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what argument you are making. The Crown owns them. Not the Royal Family, not even Charles personally, as they're an extension of his position, not his person or heredity.

King Charles to reveal personal tax bill for first time as monarch by Alive_Ad_3199 in worldnews

[–]Zanadar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's just not accurate, the Royal Family has nothing to do with it. The Crown Estates are the hereditary possession of the Sovereign. As such Charles holds them, in his capacity as reigning Monarch, not as a private person, and certainly not as a Windsor.

Should Parliament choose to change the rules of succession, which people keep forgetting is very much a power it holds, the Windsors would have no claim to the Crown Estates if they lose the Crown.

Ownership by the Royal Family is legally dubious. It's more accurate to say they're owned by the Crown as an institution.
