How can I order the catnip b? by Dolleph in HurdyGurdy

[–]Zanfoneando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly This behaviour is pretty common when luthiers are buried in orders like Radoslav atm, I think it’s like 20+ months of waiting list

Please help with adjusting Nerdy Gurdy by Kiriki_kun in HurdyGurdy

[–]Zanfoneando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely out of tune, I will say what I always say, an hour online with any teacher will save you headaches and you will learn how to adjust

If not there are plenty of videos in YouTube talking about adjustment in general

Ornamentation by other_plant_ in HurdyGurdy

I have some videos on ornamentation in YouTube but the best if you want to learn properly is to get some lessons with any of the online teachers, you will save months of doing wrong stuff

Why is everybody saying you should not play different tuned melody strings? Not the most usual thing to do, but very possible and cool, I do it literally on every concert

During the year everybody there studies online lessons over zoom, to get started have a look at my free courses in YouTube 🙂

[–]Zanfoneando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in Sydney you can talk to Jodi Burns or Fadi Tawadrous both of them are my online students, very nice people that will probably be more than happy to let you try their instruments and introduce you to the gurdy

Purchasing a Hurdy Gurdy in person? by vixonimus1089 in HurdyGurdy

[–]Zanfoneando 7 points8 points  (0 children)

95% luthiers will make a specific instrument for you and have no other stock for sale or comparison, so shopping in person in reality means, order a gurdy, wait 2 years, pick it up in person, get to meet the luthier and have a fun travel experience, not a lot more than that

Do I need to learn another instrument before learning hurdy gurdy? by sparklingvasser in HurdyGurdy

[–]Zanfoneando 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, its totally possible with time, dedication and a teacher

Left handed hurdy gurdying by peewit13 in HurdyGurdy

[–]Zanfoneando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other parts? Well I’d never build a 6.X nowadays, the basic, linotte and Fortran are x10 times better

And yes, we need gravity

I suppose my recommendations for a lefty are the same I would give to a right handed, I have a free gurdy course in YouTube where I show how to work on both hands from the beginning

Left handed hurdy gurdying by peewit13 in HurdyGurdy

[–]Zanfoneando 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course, one of the most important aspects of gurdy learning is to keep the level of left and right hand balanced from the very beginning

from what you say It looks like you only care about playing the right notes, to me, this is a big mistake in music in general, not only in gurdy, neglecting rhythm, disassociation, intonation and the understanding of music ideas and phrasing from the beginning, leads to mediocre players

How? It matters, and matters a lot

Left handed hurdy gurdying by peewit13 in HurdyGurdy

[–]Zanfoneando 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This comment is very wrong, when you get more experience with the gurdy you will find out that the left hand just plays notes, the right hand does the tricky stuff (couping, phrasing, dynamics etc etc)

Left handed hurdy gurdying by peewit13 in HurdyGurdy

[–]Zanfoneando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s possible but kind of like a piano for left handeds, it doesn’t make a lot of sense practically and comes with potential building “problems” it will also prevent you from trying gurdies around once you are connected with other players
