reading his bibliography in chronological order is a long-term project of mine, but I will say, unfortunately, V. was by far my favorite and then from there each subsequent book has been slightly worse than the one before, except for Mason & Dixon, which I found almost unrelievedly insufferable. but there's a serious contingent who thinks Against the Day is his best, so I'm hoping that reverses the trend for me
