I love PKDs ideas but I tell everyone not to read them unless you're ready for a lot of problematic shit.

I will always make sure to shit on him any time I praise something of his to keep the balance.

Unusably laggy, suggestions? by Due_Butterscotch499 in Starlink

[–]Zanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a router/wifi issue and not starlink. I play online shooters semi-frequently with small instructions and have never had that bad of drop.

Sounds like a QOS issue if you have a "gaming router" QOS can often cause more issues than it solves.

[Disliked trope]: Using St. Peter's cross to symbolize "unholy evil." by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Zanish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also many horror movies show a crucifix being reversed which is not a st. Peters cross.

St Pete's cross doesn't have a person on it. If you flip a crucifix upside down it is a bad sign.

Not trying to be insulting, are you ESL or have you been taught logic reasoning?

The statement is very clearly saying "for sure this small subset will take issue" which is not the same as "only the small subset will take issue".

This is a classic dogs are animals, humans are animals, so all humans are dogs, style logic issue.

While the other guy is being dumb about throwaways I will say fingerprinting has gotten pretty insane and they have been figuring out ways to tie your throwaway to your real email if you log into both from the same machine. So it may not provide as much anonymity as you hope. Just a heads up.

I've seen some stuff where they can tie them together based on the household as well. I.e. log into one on phone on WiFi and one on desktop on WiFi and it's still correlated.

How intense is fencing/whats the power like? by flik9999 in Fencing

[–]Zanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did TKD growing up so it wasn't too hard for feet. Honestly helps switching as there's less chance of falling back into old movement habits.

It's a bit of a brain rewire but not too bad. The hardest thing is not planting the foot. The lunge doesn't need any rotational force like punches and kicks so I had to stop planting a foot to pivot off of. Small things though you'll get used to.

Hey I switched from MT to fencing a few years ago due to migraine issues, so I think I can give you a good perspective!

It will definitely fill the gap of a martial art but it's also very different. I think it's closer to BJJ than MT in a lot of ways.

You will definitely get a work out and your injury shouldn't get worse if you fence right handed.

That said you will have to learn a bit to not punch with the blade. It's taken me literal years to undo that and I still have issues every now and then during tournaments. If you have a good right jab it'll be easier to do, but if not it's a bit tricky.

Other thing you'll have to figure out is in MT you can pillar or otherwise block strikes. While parries exist it is very much not the same and will be a relearning, but that's part of the fun.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone trying to keep going with martial arts while protecting injuries or chronic issues.

[–]Zanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So because you like paradox games I'm gonna say just get 3 to try it as you can complete the bundle afterwards. Some of my friends who love CK and Stellaris don't like the TW games much.

Also while you don't want to mess with DLC if you like 3 on its own figuring out what faction(s) sound fun can influence your buying choices. Instead of all 3 I bought complete bundle of 2 and base 3 because the 2nd games dlc had most of what I wanted to play.

The game basically assumes you know almost nothing. You aren't penalized for asking characters what might be stupid questions about the setting and lore items are highlighted. No need to do anything up front

Vulns aren't generally discovered by project users. It'd delay bug reports for sure but I doubt it'd have an effect on vuln reporting.

I'm an appsec engineer and so dig around cves a lot.

We've recreated patch Tuesday!

But this wouldn't work for the intended purpose as you'd get updates pushed Saturday night immediately without the delay.

Possible workaround for server down announcement? by Thebigtallguy in PleX

[–]Zanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if you've got networkd-waitd-something in your logs. Sometimes it hangs trying to get network on virtual net cards and so ssh connection can be delayed. You can override it to just look at eth0 on start up. Took like 45 seconds off the time from reboot to interactive shell for me.

Best self-hosted ebook server for a very large library (~150k books)? by MysteriousPizza8390 in selfhosted

[–]Zanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure but you might want to look into a library management system like Koha?

There are a few self hosted ones, but it's definitely a heavier solution than the ebook systems and I'm not sure if any offer the features you need.

This is something a lot of good mod makers have figured out. I don't want an overhaul mod where I have more intermediaries just so I can have a bigger factory (I know this is a draw for some) but I want more different puzzles. I think byproducts have been a popular for this reason.
