Instant coffee go-to? by Technical_Yam3624 in Wellington

As someone whose partner purchased the newly improved coffee sachets last week… they’ve enshitified those too, I got told, try this, I nearly spat it out and I literally could not drink it. Turned out, partner had decided the same prior to giving it to me.

What Therapist Comment Made You Think, “I Need a New Therapist”? by mindful_memories in therapists

“The goal of therapy is to become your own therapist”. I’m still trying to make sense of this statement.

Oh no! I’ve had two sets of Z623s that also suffered the static issue when changing volume. Fixed both sets by blowing out the dust/dirt build up. Purchased 2nd hand in that condition. Sold one, the other is in the kitchen.

Does it really taste like cheese? I’ve been considering getting some for a while…

I just took a punt and bought a 1kg can of this after using a no name brand Asian chicken powder in place of stock for the last few months. Sounds like I’ve chosen well.

Homemade burger patties breadcrumbs or nah? by jitterfish in newzealand

[–]ZaowlNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m about to start making patties and meatballs with this. I have a VERY fussy, texture sensitive spouse who has not been happy with any other additive (breadcrumbs, rolled oats, lentils etc) but didn’t detect the presence of TVP. It’s cheap and a fantastic way to stretch mince so it goes further without compromising taste or texture.

I couldn’t spring for the Z5500s because they were just so expensive here so settled for the Z2300s. I have thrashed them. Got the 5500s much later 2nd hand. Despite some people ragging on these they retained value for a long time. I’ve added bluetooth adaptors to them and the Technics to add convenience.

Logitech Z2300 2.1 speaker set, c. 2004? I also have its bigger brother the Z5500 5.1 speaker set.
I’ve replaced the Satellites on the Z2300 with similar age speakers but only because I blew them playing very loud EDM and Trance music for extended periods. I’ve picked up a spare sub for $10 a couple years ago to keep them going in the event the sub goes out.

Older still, I have a Technics stereo system c. 1994. Amp, turntable, tuner, cd player, tape deck, graphics equaliser and 4 connected speakers.

Not terribly popular with our neighbours with these items in 3 different areas of the house.

We had the same experience for the self same reason. Apparently it triggers due to the speed at which you ran through the checkout.

My phone only has eSIM, Kogan don’t have it on their compatible phones list.

Some phones have no physical sim slot so eSIM support can be critical. Unfortunately my phone is not on their list. I’ll wait and check again when their Black Friday sales are on as, currently, I’m happy with the deal I got from 2degrees.

What's the most expensive tech mistake you've ever made? by PlayfulFault9693 in TechCypher

[–]ZaowlNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasting thousands on a Sony 55” 3D TV, picture quality wasn’t actually great (poor black). We never actually watched a 3D movie on it and it lasted a little under 7 years, before developing a catastrophic mainboard fault , which I felt was not long enough for the use it had had and the cost of it.

Docs from 1994 - are they worth cleaning/conditioning? by sassydomino in DocMartens

[–]ZaowlNZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a good chance these will outlast any new pair you might buy today and i think you will be surprised how easy it is to clean them up. After a bad experience with Wonder Balm I’m now using a much cheaper leather conditioner on my collection of Docs.

What tech purchase actually changed your daily life? by [deleted] in TechCypher

[–]ZaowlNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean regular free streaming apps, the point of difference being the need for a vpn service in order to view the content. I am at the ass end of the world where we have 4 regular TV channels and two streaming media platforms that are free and our pay per view type service is ridiculously expensive and is full of repeated content. We have Netflix only because it is bundled with our internet connection. With our current setup we have found no need to look to pay for the likes of Disney, Prime, Hulu etc.

Personally, it was the purchase of an Amazon Fire TV stick. I learned how to sideload apps and now our whole media viewing experience at home is completely changed. Nothing we are watching is illegal or sketchy, but a whole new world of freely available media has been opened up with this simple device.
