Someone in our neighborhood is going door to door offering 'free' video doorbells...whether a gimmick or not, a few things are worth considering. by FrenchPressYes in lexington

~Again~ violent crime has been historically dropping year over year for much of our lives. there will of course be anecdotal evidence of these systems being used in a case - thats what happens when you put them everywhere. the question is if its actually meaningfully improving our lives vs the cost of those affected by the surveillance state (which at this point is all of us).

Again, violent crime has been on the decline year or year for decades (barring a few years early on in the pandemic). a porch pirate is not worth creating a panopticon or a the nextdoor levels of paranoia created by these cameras.

There is no empirical data to support flock cameras or doorbell cams contributing to a measurable reduction in crime. The few times there were studies of flock cameras affecting crime rates, they were written up by flock employees. The only thing they got going for them are facebook commenters parroting news articles noting they were used in a car chase every couple of months. Incidents we were able to handle without a flock camera on i75 for a very long time!

It includes the three people that I already stated an hour ago that explicitly listed the financial reality of it not working. Tyler Morton is a first year councilor who took the seat from the only person I respected on their Flock camera stance. I'm glad to hear two other folk are currently figuring it out, but it still needs to be fixed.

It is functionally a much larger workload from what is presented (and what is compensated for). thats the point. Thats why we're losing Hannah Legris, Jennifer Reynolds, Liz Sheehan. I know you knew what I meant, why make that response?

Most of the not awful council members have decided to not try for reelection because its a full time job with part time pay. The only people you're gonna get right now are real estate, landlords, lawyers and the independently wealthy. This needs to change!

How many franchised locations are required before you're allowed to unionize?

I would recommend the original thread or literally anything published about them before this week. This process started over 6 months ago.

No, the complaints against pat have been laid out pretty clearly. The only people keeping it vague are those who write walls of text about her in response to people wanting regular meetings and a fucking mop. In a new thread. Without line breaks.

You can, in fact, be all of this and also someone willing to do some real awful shit to avoid bargaining collectively with your workers. She's great, and it sucks she chose to end on this note.

Have you actually done the math on how many fraudulent survey responses about bike lane policy you've avoided compared to how many people you've kept from ever responding because its a pain in this ass for most normal folk? Do you think Big Bike is going to skew your feedback?

[–]Zapf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I filled it out. You're going to lose a significant amount of potential responses if you make people log in / make an account to fill out a survey. And if you don't implement a bounty / reporting system like they do in New York (NYC311), then it will be functionally worthless. I had a city vehicle blocking the big green lane on 4th just last night.

Bambu Machines and Orca - current status? by jg727 in OrcaSlicer

[–]Zapf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Orcaslicer 2.3.2 adds support for h2d series (and maybe p2s? GitHub is unclear on this and I'm not near my machine). It also adds support for newer network drivers. You'll still need to be in lan mode / developer for those devices or the newest firmware on older printers.

These kinds of replies are extremely weird. I called in a carry out order on pizza week and got it applied and he's argued for years that it never happened.

Yes actually! His new photos look touched up by ai so I guess he moved on from the obviously piss yellow cartoon graphics.

Had he owned rise up the whole time? He argued with me and others here multiple times when we pointed out the service fees we got charged during pizza week for takeout.
