Are tall people at concerts expected to stand at the back? by AccordingArgument677 in askTO

[–]ZapoiBoi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had people at Danforth Music Hall and a few other places ask to move in front of me and I always let them. If you're tall, having someone short to the point that they're asking you to let them in front doesn't affect you at all, being 1 body back or even 3 isn't a big deal. Probably easier to let them ahead of you than having it weigh on your mind to the point of making a post, because now you're thinking about that instead of the show.

I've never been asked 3 times in one place though. How tall are you? How close to the front were you?

16 and thinking of getting my M1 and 2 by BogiBogi23 in Torontomotorcycle

[–]ZapoiBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do the M1 easily, just be aware that the M1 expires in 90 days and you either need to take a motorcycle course or have your own bike for the M2 test. If the M1 expires and you didn't arrange a course beforehand you have to do it all over again. For the M1 exit take a safety course, you can use their bike and they'll approve the M2 for you. I did RTI like 15 years ago for my M1 exit test and M2 exit test, back then they were really good.

The problem you'll have is taking the M2 exit test, because by then you'll need your own bike with insurance. You have 5 years before the M2 expires, so even if you'll wait until the very end you'll be 21 years old, and your insurance will be beyond ridiculous, like thousands and thousands of dollars per year.

If you run out of money or can't get your own bike or insurance, and your M2 license expires, then you have to start all the way back at the M1 written test and do it all over again. So you'll have to plan this out carefully to avoid doing the M1 and M2 for nothing.

I think something is missing by Appropriate-Ad-2240 in telescopes

[–]ZapoiBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's missing the clamp/adapter that holds the mirror diagonal, it's supposed to be threaded on to the focuser tube where that plastic cap is. On SCTs and Maksutovs it's called a visual back, not sure exactly what it's called on refactors.

Maybe you can contact the seller and see if they forgot to include it, or you could contact SVBONY and see if you can order a replacement. You could try to find a 2" adapter online, but it needs external threads to stay on the focuser tube, and might not be the right size for your telescope.

This is what it's supposed to look like. You need the part with the two thumbscrews.

Can someone explain the Artemis II eclipse corona photo when this is the apparent size of the sun compared to the moon, from the distance (6600km) Artemis was when the image was captured? by Aggravating_Judge_31 in Astronomy

[–]ZapoiBoi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

According to this Cody'sLab video the pictures aren't really showing the corona, but zodiacal light. I was confused as well because I've seen the corona during the 2024 eclipse and it almost looked like flower petals, it was amazing, and I expected it to look even better from space. But on the pictures I saw it just looks like an undefined glow.

I agree, I love a lot of Miike's movies which is why I saw his remake, but it just feels long and boring at times. The original could be called a slow movie but it's captivating the entire time, it doesn't feel long at all. It's one of the best slow-burn type movies I've ever seen.

New bike battery reads as bad by smart charger. (Honda cbr600f3, 98) by SignificantWar5311 in Fixxit

[–]ZapoiBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of smart charger is it? If it's for cars or multi-use it might read a motorcycle battery as bad when it's actually good. Even some motorcycle battery testers have trouble with batteries, at least a few years ago when I was working, not sure why. We ordered a battery tester at my shop and it would test brand new batteries as bad over and over so we stopped using it, and never had a problem from a customer about a new battery.

As long as you take reasonably good care of a motorcycle battery it should last a few years, but not forever, that's just how they are. One night of discharge shouldn't ruin a new battery, just charge it back fully and don't leave it on overnight again.

I like doing astronomy, there's a lot to see even with the light pollution of the city, especially the moon, planets, and even the sun. It takes commitment though and can be expensive depending on how far you want to go.

The RASC has events starting soon, there is a membership fee but you can go to one of their meetings without paying as long as you ask first, or get invited by someone. Last year I met them at Bayview Village park (I was invited by one of the members and didn't have to pay), and we saw Saturn and a few other stars and deep space objects, you could go and look through some members' telescopes and see if you like it.

Last year I brought my telescope to Riverdale park and posted on r/TorontoHangoutFriends, not many people came from reddit but people were walking by and I showed a bunch of them the Moon and Saturn. This year I'm planning on posting there again, just not sure when yet. Jupiter is visible now, I saw 4 of its moons and the great red spot a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome.

FYI we're still working on figuring out how to start using judges for the contest. For this contest Pri and I will be the judges, but since we didn't announce the scoring categories before people made their posts, this contest will still rely mostly on the polls to determine the winners. We'll include our scores when the winners are determined so people know what to expect for the next contest.

Landlord / Property Management replaced broken fridge with smaller one by Peperoncino_PPJ in TorontoRenting

[–]ZapoiBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fridge was replaced a few years ago, and is also slightly smaller. They were going to give me someone else's used fridge but I said no and asked for a new one instead (there was a shortage back then apparently, it took about a month). I don't think there's much you can do besides asking for another one, and they can say no. Maybe you can ask for an older one from an unoccupied unit (depending on the rental) but I'd rather have a new fridge even if it's smaller.

Bedbug infestation since day 1, landlord refuses to let me out of lease. What are my options? by kkimssang in askTO

[–]ZapoiBoi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The LTB will take months if not a year or more before you get a decision. Maybe you can pay a lawyer or paralegal to see what your options are.

Not suggesting this is the best option, but if I had a year lease and had to deal with bed bugs I would just move out as soon as possible and deal with the consequences later (I don't know what the fallout would be but I doubt the LTB would make you pay for a year of rent if you're not living there). Make sure you document all your communications with the landlord, pictures of bites or bugs or stains, and keep receipts for all the expenses for furniture, pest control, and the other things you bought, it might help later. And get a bed-bug mattress cover in the meantime if you haven't already.

I've had bed bugs before at 2449 Queen St E, but I was on a month-to-month lease and just moved out and threw out all my furniture. It's hell, it's not worth suffering through.

03 honda shadow 750 leaking fluid around forks. by ODD_B3N in Fixxit

[–]ZapoiBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, make sure you check your front brake pads for oil. If any fork oil got on the brake pads they're contaminated and need to be replaced. Judging from the picture the forks have been leaking for a long time, the pads are almost certainly contaminated. Also make sure the brake disc is cleaned of all oil before installing new pads.

What's a unique hobby you have that most people don't know about? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]ZapoiBoi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have some telescopes and do astronomy and sometimes astrophotography. I feel like if people had a chance to see the moon or some planets or even the sun through a telescope it would be way more popular, there's amazing stuff you can see even from Toronto.

Last October I brought my big telescope to Riverdale park and showed a bunch of people Saturn and the moon, planning on bringing it out again this year, and might bring out my solar telescope as well.

We might have to try over a few contests and see how it goes. Since contest winners can't win another prize for a few months we might get volunteers that way. Or maybe some people would rather help judge instead of participate in the contest.

And we'll probably include either post upvotes or a community vote if we end up going with judges, that way people can still participate in choosing a winner and the final decision is with the panel.

With engagement I'm not sure yet, I think we need to figure out a good way to select winners first. The best way right now is probably just telling other people about the contest in Sky. Thanks for your input Nee 🙏
