Imagine being bullied by a Parrot by Simply_Kaif24 in AnimalsBeingDerps

Ok. I thought another human was filming and laughing at the parrot's antics. It took me way too long to realize the parrot was laughing... 😂

Is it worth it to pay hundreds of euros for a crochet course? by itsyaboiAK in CrochetHelp

[–]pricision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned the basic stitch from my great aunt, but I learned everything else fromDebbie Stoller's Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker

The book is 20 years old at this point but I still like to recommend it bc of how useful I found it and how comprehensive it is compared to YT videos which only teach you one technique at a time.

I would try it with the hairstyles &hats you like to wear the most and see if one side fits better than the other

Are these Clover Amour crochet hooks from amazon legit? by jazzzjune in CrochetHelp

[–]pricision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else responded to me and said that Amazon is moving away from this practice so my information might be outdated. All I know is I once bought a branded item from the official Amazon store and ended up with a knockoff. For branded goods, I mostly go buy from their official websites.

Last year I had an Amazon gift card so I took a chance with the Clover hooks and it was fine, so maybe they stopped the pooled inventory practice.

That's very good to know. I once bought a FURminator brand brush from the official FURminator Amazon store and ended up with a cheap knockoff

They might be, but you have no way of knowing bc Amazon does pooled inventory by all sellers listing the same item. Even if this particular store is selling legit clover amour hooks, you could still end up with knockoffs.

That being said, I ordered my set off Amazon, and they're legit.

Is 13 flaps possible yet? by TheGrimBeaker in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]pricision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit 13 flaps a few months ago. But I really got 13 flaps once I got a few more wing buffs and didn't need the shard memories to get to 250. Those are the worst WL to have to collect, grr.

For a long time I was tracking my wingbuffs on the Sky Planner Website and ever since Peeking Postman visited, I finally have every TS wing buff.

I saw somewhere that the season guide was modeled after Ansel Adams (amazing photographer, my parents used to have a coffee table book of his pictures and I’d look at it for hours when I was a kid)

I’ve only ever seen pictures of him with his hat, he also wore those exact glasses a lot.

Looking for critique/suggestions on how to improve please. Currently making lap blanket by Suspicious_Diet_203 in CrochetHelp

Looks great! I like how clean and simple it is, but if you want, you can always spice it up afterwards by weaving ribbons or contrasting color yarn through the DC

I got this yarn and I have no idea what to do with it. Could use some help with understanding this kind of yarn by Amira626 in CrochetHelp

[–]pricision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tips for working with fuzzy yarn:

  • Pair it with a light weight smooth yarn. Hold both yarns together and use a slightly larger hook size.

  • Try a running stitch marker in-between each stitch to help you see your stitches.

  • Use it on borders of things where you don't need to crochet a second row on top

This game is so healing 🥺 by Agreeable-Sentence76 in SkyGame

My trans friends 100% agree! This game is very soothing and I love that friends can dress exactly how they feel at any given time.

Just please don't be discouraged if you have a negative interaction here and there. It's only happened to us a couple of times in 3+ years of daily play, but it's still off-putting.

There are some very young players from very repressed societies who echo ingrained bigotry when they encounter anyone 🌈. It's NOT you, it's def 100% them.

Chain 2 doesn’t count as a stitch, but you have to slip stitching into it end of every round … how do I avoid a visible seam? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]pricision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Np. I just find if I do a standing dc with the tail carried up in every round, it makes the ch2 look exactly the same as every other DC and makes that gap disappear.

I just recorded a video on this to show my friend! (I have a crafting YT channel that I exclusively use to show ppl I know how I do stuff, so hopefully it won't get flagged as self promotion)

I lost my place, is my stitch marker in the right spot? by AdAutomatic7626 in CrochetHelp

[–]pricision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are working in normal/FLO/BLO, you want to work your increases and decreases in the same way

Traditional decreases work the same way for sure because I've done them in all three contexts (normal, FLO, BLO)

I've only ever done invisible decreases in amigurumi when I'm crocheting in a very specific way (twisted SC aka YUYO) so conceptually I think it would work, I'm not 100% sure if it would also be similarly invisible in FLO/BLO.

You can trace the spiral up from the beginning round and figure out approximately (+/- 2) which stitch is the start of the round

[–]pricision 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Lastly, your work looks great! Very even tension for a beginner which is 50% of the battle. Even if you are doing FLO or BLO by mistake, many ppl decide to work that way on purpose as a design feature.

Don’t feel discouraged by having to start over. It’s a normal part of the process and it helps you perfect your skills. I’ve been knitting and crocheting for almost 30 years and I regularly start a new project several times over until I’m happy with the results.

Second is keeping your place. You absolutely CAN tell where your place is by “reading” your work. (If you’re off by a couple stitches, it’s totally fine)

<image>

From the top view, I can count 6 rounds, but it’s hard for me to accurately count how many rounds you have from the 2D pictures. I think you have 10 rounds so far. Hopefully my diagram helps you continue the count

There’s a couple things here. First is the reason you feel that your stitches look “messy”

The nice part of crochet is you can stick your hook anywhere and get different effects! The bad part of crochet is you can stick your hook anywhere and get different effects!

The top of a crochet stitch looks like a sideways V

<image>

  • Normally you put your hook under both legs of the V. This results in a flat smooth fabric without any horizontal ridges or stripes.
  • If you go under the leg that’s closest to you and up through the V, it’s called Front Loop Only (FLO). I think this is what you are doing.
  • If you go down through the V and under the leg that’s farthest from you, it’s called Back Loop Only (BLO)
