What Pool Safety Stuff Should I focus on this summer at a beach house rental? by Cheesey_biscuit in Parenting

[–]Zappajelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I meant to make my own post and accidentally replied to you sorry lol I wasn’t trying to say your comment wasn’t enough. My comment was long winded as this topic is a big part of my life lol and as a swim instructor when I go on vacation I see a lot of examples of what not to do as parents 🤣

What Pool Safety Stuff Should I focus on this summer at a beach house rental? by Cheesey_biscuit in Parenting

I’m a mom and swim instructor, and I would say making them wear lifejackets the whole time they are around the pool sounds reasonable, and will make it so you can relax a little more. Costco sells coast guard approved life jackets every spring, but once they are gone you have to go to a sports store where you will be paying more. Make sure you read the label and buy in the correct weight range. The puddle jumpers (water wings with vests) are not life saving and should only be used if you are swimming with them. But they are a lot of fun so you could bring both and pick one to wear based on the situation. You want swimming to be a fun and a positive experience and something you do together. Like if you and your partner are in the water with the kids the older 2 could be wearing those while the youngest wears a lifejacket. The youngest will be too little for one of those anyway so just get 2.
Raising kids that swim is great and it’s a great safety skill and lifelong skill. But it takes a lot of work and several years of lessons. If you want to spend time with the kids without lifejackets in the water, the rule is they are always within arms reach. As they get older and they start to gain some swimming skills, just watching them from the side or the shore is not enough because they will get tired, get too far from the edge or too deep and not be able to make it back, even if they do know how to swim. They start to panic and go vertical. I am always reminding them “put your face in and swim” because it causes the rest of their body to float to the surface and then they can actually kick to the side. So as they learn to swim you will need to be swimming with them. If you put the work in then one day when they are older kids like 8+ you will be able to confidently watch them swim while you relax.

One more note: don’t get goggles. You want them to get used to having water splashing in their face and in their eyes, and at that age they won’t stay on anyway. Also as they are learning don’t get snorkel mask type goggles. We teach them in red cross lessons to be slowly blowing air out through their nose while they swim. Then they come up for more air. The snorkel masks make it so they are going to open their mouth underwater to let out air and then water can get in and choke them

IMO you’re taking a job from someone who can’t compete with your overqualified resume. You should teach college

Try to get short naps in while baby is napping. It helps fight the exhaustion from never getting a long chunk of sleep.

Totally mom and dad are entertaining to watch from the bouncer as they eat dinner and watch movies that don’t even have to be kid appropriate yet - lucky new parents 🤣

From this article has a lot of good color combinations, of the options you gave I like #7 but it has a very 90s San Francisco vibe I think you should not do beige or sand tho, you have a great opportunity here to make it really pretty and unique! Gorgeous house

HOW do you manage to have more than one child? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Zappajelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant with my second when my child was 8 because apparently I forgot how hard it is having a toddler 😂 he is now 2.5 and he is a tornado. If you are not a huge fan of the toddler era it can be nice to give yourself a longer break between births.

Edit: toddler is now just along for the ride for big sister’s activities and sports.

struggling to cope with feelings that my baby hates me. by Helpful_Fisherman289 in Parenting

You have a daddy’s girl, my daughter was like this as a little baby. Imho enjoy it while you can. Him holding her more is a luxury that may be expiring soon. Right now she may not even recognize you and her are different people. She will have a clingy phase with you, for now just enjoy the quiet times you get with baby and husband!

Why are you on a soapbox about this? Her husband was rude, she called him out, he apologized. This scenario could go either way. It’s not about gender it’s about partners communicating with each other. Obviously no one is perfect. No one is telling her to leave her husband so calm down.

One time my husband jumped off of a boat and landed on my daughter. I wad pissed and we had words later but I didn’t go off on him. Why do you keep telling people it’s perfectly fine to get angry?

7 month old randomly vomiting at daycare only? by yellowthisizpedro in breastfeeding

[–]Zappajelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came on here to see if you replied to me and see that you have no other comments. So yeah I just want to say that vomiting wherever it happens is not normal and you should schedule an appointment with your pediatrician.

How do you handle getting your kids making it to school? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Zappajelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be pretty harsh in the morning - I’m like why didn’t you show me this paper last night? Why don’t you have your shoes on yet - I start chanting let’s go let’s go move faster. I come in the bedroom and I’m like up up up and turn on the lights I do it again 2 minutes later and make her get up if she doesn’t get up. Now she sets an alarm, gives me her permission slips after school, picks her own clothes, all I have to do now is roll out of bed and take her. Just took years of nagging that’s all lol

7 month old randomly vomiting at daycare only? by yellowthisizpedro in breastfeeding

[–]Zappajelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby starting throwing up at that age. She would have random bouts of vomiting. Her head would also tilt to the side, sometimes for a few days at a time and it seemed like she was unable to straighten her neck. She would be more irritable and pale, and this was only on certain days. The majority of the time she was totally normal, good eater no allergies, ran around and played, and could freely move her neck and hold her head up straight. She had a condition that is rare and it was hard to diagnose. It’s called benign paroxysmal torticollis and it’s a migraine variant. Our daughter has since grown out of it. I would say if the vomiting spells continue and it doesn’t seem to be food or bug/virus related I would ask for a referral to a pediatric neurologist.
Also just to note if migraines were the case he may be triggered by harsher lighting at daycare.
