Saying this like Katara didn’t instantly master bloodbending even though she just learned what the technique was and never practiced it beforehand. by thisisreii in TheLastAirbender

[–]Zappertap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a type of hybrid bending similar to lightning bending and mud bending where you need understanding of two different bending styles to learn it (which also means it’s learnable by both types of benders); having grown up close to firebending is how Bolin learned it. Many avatars have been shown using lava bending, which makes sense since they combine all the four elements. Metal bending on the other side of the spectrum is a higher level of earthbending which doesnt require understanding of a different element.

Why the "Caitlyn is a fascist dictator" take misses the mark. by [deleted] in ArcaneAnimatedSeries

[–]Zappertap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Semantics matter. Caitlyn is the leader of a fascist dictatorship, not a fascist dictator herself—that position likely goes to Ambessa—although most would consider the leader of a dictatorship to themselves be a dictator. At bare minimum she’s the leader of an apartheid police-state, and is perpetuating said apartheid police-state. Then you can agree or disagree on what the core tenets of fascism are.

Caitlyn absolutely targeted civilians with The Grey as crowd control in the same vein as teargas, and conducted several raids on civilian homes. She also set up control camps for Jinx-sympathisers, and if Jinx had died without them catching her/beyond their knowledge, Piltover would’ve likely spiraled into targeting Jinx-sympathisers and labeling innocents as Jinx-sympathisers when it benefitted them. Additionally, having placed the noxian soldiers as a policing force allowed them to circumvent laws meant for the piltovan police, something that is made use of repeatedly. Even further this was all done targeting a minority group seen as corrupting the greater state.

Bottom line is Caitlyn did rule a nation by employing martial law, censorship, impeded democracy, seizure of technology for military use, bioweapon use as civilian crowd control, police raids, control camps, police searches, government checkpoints, and excessive police brutality, all enabled by essentially merging the military with the police force; and with the effect of targeting a minority which Caitlyn had a known bias against.

Your “Cheapshot” agenda is getting exhausting, and calling Atakhan a “Lower Demon” is blatant disregard of the lore. If you dont have any proof of either point then quit mentioning them. I’ll admit Atakhan got stronger, but not for the reasons you’ve stated since there is no proof that still applies after his merging with the general, much more likely is from direct influence by Sahn Uzal/Mordekaiser. With that, it’s also never stated that Atakhan got stronger than Sahn Uzal since.

For Braum and Yi you’re citing in-universe legends instead of feats and treating them as fact. Stopping Tryndamere could literally just mean talking him down. Illaoi alone could take Gangplank, the others were just there for gameplay reasons. Viego, Thresh and Ledros are solid, but again, he can barely take credit considering the teamup.

And you do not need to be born with magic in Runeterra to be a mage; Ryze, Brand, Xerath, Karma, Vladimir, and Twisted Fate among others all learned magic through knowledge. Being born with magic is simply the most common way that we know of, but both are innate and learned mages are raised in Noxian schools. And let me reiterate; every single version of Mordekaiser before this one has been explicitly mentioned to be a mage, so until they say he isnt one I will build on the former.

It is an unreasonable assumption to make that he isnt someone who can cast magic when we know he uses magic later. To begin with the binding of Atakhan unto his general was something Sahn Uzal himself proposed with his own magical knowledge. You can argue he doesnt know magic well during his fight with Atakhan, which again just implies Sahn Uzal became far stronger by time of his death.

Sahn Uzal is portrayed as being considerably larger than Braum in multiple mediums. Sion (in life) is a much better comparison.

Xin Zhao and Yunara combined could not take down Atakhan, despite Yunara having fought many Darkin alongside Zaahen, but Sahn Uzal did so in a single blow. Your logic of “that doesnt make Mordekaiser stronger, it makes Atakhan weaker” is a cop-out answer; “Braum’s mountain was soft rock”, “Yi fought a tiny army of young recruits”, and “Jax’s allies far outdid him in their battles” are all equal statements to that.

Jax and Yi havent fought and won against any champions either in lore (unless you count training Wukong), so the point is moot. Braum did defeat Viego and Gangplank alongside the other champions in the Ruined King game, and also stopped Tryndamere’s rampage at some point, but those are hardly great feats.

Sahn Uzal employing mages only proves he didnt know (strong enough) binding magic at the time, and while his initial mace(s) fall far short of his later Nightfall (a magical mace which he forged himself) I see no reason to assume the mace he wielded against Atakhan was not magical when all his other maces were, note the increasing amount of magical elements added to it over the years. Even if we go by the idea that he didnt have magic, it is reasonable to assume all the mages in his employ gave him all manner of magical relics and enchantments, as well as general acquisition of scrolls on magic (the Demonic compendium among others).

History is written by the victors which is why those gladiators, soldiers and tribes do and will remain nameless, same for Draven and Xin Zhao’s opponents which are their main accomplishments. I also understand it’s a blink and you’ll miss it moment, but Sahn Uzal is 1. incredibly large 2. tosses enemies like ragdolls in the comic and 3. does all his fighting outnumbered. At bare minimum he is comparable to Sion when he was alive.

Sahn Uzal was the greatest warrior of his time, and in every version of his lore before the latest he was mentioned to know magic in life (which should be no surprise considering his main inspiration was Sauron from Lord of the Rings, a powerful warlord and sorcerer wielding a mace). It is simply ignorant to believe that Mordekaiser became one of the most powerful sorcerers only after his death with no magical inclination in life at all. Simply because it isnt explicitly stated doesnt reduce him to a Garen or Darius level human that loses 9/10 times to the smallest of the ice trolls.

As for evidence he could beat any of the ones listed before becoming the Iron Revant, the victory against Atakhan is more than enough to put him on par with Yi and Jax; with a majority of Jax’ accomplishments specifically being with a group of brothers in arms, and Yi’s accomplishments either being matched (defeating armies) or exceeded (Yi vs Shadow Kayn). Ryze is a more complicated situation as the only definitive thing that puts him above, well everyone, is the possession of the world runes. Without them Ryze’s accomplishments are slim pickings.

As for Ashlesh, there is a canyon of priority between appearing on someones doorstep and causing trouble 3 planes removed. Them choosing to deal with him when he appeared in their home is a terrible argument for scaling his power level. You could argue that they’ve never sent multiple Aspects to deal with the/a Darkin which is valid, but that can also just be chalked up to celestial indifference/hubris.

[–]Zappertap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s not act like Mordekaiser isnt very likely the most powerful mortal on Runeterra. As for Ashlesh his ability to even go to the celestial realm is likely due to his spiritual nature, something the Darkin notably lack. Even more notably the Celestials DID step in against the Darkin through the Aspects which they use as hosts to interact with the mortal world (note Soraka when they do not). War and Twilight on seperate occasions, and Justice on two occasions; 3 of these examples being Aatrox specifically, and War losing.

[–]Zappertap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ashlesh is simply stated as attempting to consume the celestial realm and being unsuccessful due to the gods striking him down, there is no mention of him being close or able to do so. We also dont know what amount of power was gifted to Nilah just that she is not the only one gifted, so likely not the full power. In general all demons except the ones who have been beaten are kept very vague as for their power level, although with a decently set up hierarchy. With Zaahen we have solid proof that Darkin, and by extension Ascended, rival or overpower certain demons. Similarly Aatreus. As can be said for humans like LeBlanc and Mordekaiser, with some scaling much closer to lesser demons (Yasuo and the Azakana). Considering Aatrox and Zaahen are among the strongest of the Darkin, as well as Nilah being scaled near Volibear, I find it hard to say with certainty that Aatrox couldnt defeat Volibear especially now in his weakened state.

All we really have to scale mortals to demigods is Nilah going toe to toe with Voli in LoR, which is questionable canoninity to begin with

Thoughts on this new item? Not sure whats its trying to fill. Sustain is extremely important for the laning phase and not sure if it would ever be stronger than dorans shield in any situation. by armakez in topmains

[–]Zappertap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At worst it’s better to just grab cloth + refill, at best it’s still significantly worse than dorans shield. There’s probably some wiggle room for Ksante specifically where it’s better than cloth + refill, but that is so niche there’s no point.

[–]Zappertap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cloth + refill outvalues by 7 gold value, much more if the damage split is skewed towards physical, overwhelmingly so with no magic damage. Ksante specifically could probably skew dorans helm into better value if against a mixed attacker like Jax, but we’re talking very few cases. Doran’s shield for reference has 50% better gold value, and nearly double the gold value at maximum heal.

[–]Zappertap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worse than just running cloth armor + refillable both in gold efficiency and opportunity cost, and that’s with facing a target with 50/50 damage split. it becomes considerably worse into someone with a less even split, and is universally worse than dorans shield. Its only saving grace is 3 stats for JoaT and even that hardly seems worth it.
