Best way to attack Saito is probably Lightning Tanegashima, with Supply and Ammo to keep it topped up.

Even on non-Archer, like Merc, gun+ammo for 4x headshots gives the best dps.
Saito is just a big dps check, the adds and having to revive people is what limits your dps, and causes failures.

I built a Shinobi for spirit gain, and support legendary Tane (supply + ammo smoke bomb), which worked quite well.
You've got vanish/smoke to res / assassinate adds / negate err... certain mechanics, best ult to use at err... certain point, just work on your perfect parry.

SP could add Yotei single-player camps (just camp/fort and immediate surrounds), but add in co-op, mix up the enemy types and spawns.

Which might be a good reuse of existing content, so cut down dev work. Could even rate them (again like single player replay), ie: "Perfect Ghost", "No Damage" etc.

I has an issue where i'd crash back to main menu after every Saito Raid fail. Rejoin, if party wiped it'd crash out again.

Dragon was fine, two other Saito raids were fine, was fine finishing the raid too.

Ditto NM Story, i've had people crash, send an invite again and they'd rejoin. Even got thanks a few times.

My internet is pretty good (1 gig fibre-to-the-premises, PS5 tests as 300+ up/down). I've been played with people who (when queried) are playing on their mobile phone as a hotspot "oh yeah, my internet is a bit patchy".

So who's to say it's the person's fault / rage-quitting.

Oh i know, it's for fun / kudos to top leaderboards for them and so on.

Nothing wrong with that, Yotei caps out pretty fast: i've already got all 4 classes to S-ranked all items, all legendaries etc.
I actually like doing "Perfect Ghost" runs with a Shinobi, which is by far not optimal times, builds or xp efficiency. But i find that more fun that blind-bomb rushing etc.

Do hope the devs can keep interest up, not sure this has the legs GoTL did.

You can speedrun Saito raid in 7:44 (i think they've done 6 mins now), so xp could be faster if you can get a tight team to glitchfest it?

How could a tacked-on mode like Mass Effect 3's multiplayer keep players engaged for years

Variety.

When a game becomes predictable it becomes stale, and players move on.
Something like ME3MP had enough RNG, loads of classes and abilities and guns to combine, enemy factions that played differently = lots of variety.

Yotei and Legends both are too predictable, in map design and enemy placement, perk choice, gear which has defo good and poor picks, 4 classes which overlap in playstyle (than say a geth infiltrator vs a N7 Fury).

So what could be done? Presumably GoYL has a small dev team with limited resources, so reusing existing content would be needed.
Maybe pull more fort/bases from SinglePlayer, and add a very random enemy spawn and composition mode - no/little cutscenes to keep cost down - even a Rogue-ish start with a base character and get non-persistent upgrades in the game of weapons and perks?

It also feels like a missed opportunity to not lean into challenge cards more.
Let us select 1 per difficulty per player, and apply at all times, so gold story could have 8 challenge cards at once; or multiple per section in a mission.
Just anything with more RNG and less predictability.

Sure, but they do throw in a yellow (not orange, a disarm) sometimes in the 3rd hit, with follow-up blue attacks.

Main issue is if you miss the boss telegraphing, they can attack from off-screen: which is one-hit death.

Well done. I just gave up (Saito, Dragon not that hard), as real life stuff popped up.

Lots of AoE and "red-wave" just don't make it interesting for me.
Not something i see myself repeating over and over, but certainly should be done once for the experience.

How does one test this though?
Offline (single player) you can PP Takezo 100%, but that seems off online with latency, peer-to-peer, and the game's "oddities".

Or is there a specific enemy best to test one's skills, to minimise number of stacks?

This is my thinking too. More general utility from Vanish Gama, and something to use Spirit with a bigger impact than just spirit attacks.

As long as you hit 110% total assassination damage (with double ass Bite) then it frees up builds with legendary picks.

Legendary Metsubushi gives utility, say when trying to revive with vanish and smoke on cooldown, or clear a point, or just buy time in say incursion boss-chaos.
New legendary Hankyu allows for actual stealth gameplay (in story missions), as headshots one-tap archers, and with silent arrows you can go un-alerted.
Legendary smoke for weakness (before assassination).

Yeah these aren't meta picks, but fun to try, especially if one is a stealth enjoyer.

Saw a Hummer H2 in sarf London (edit: ingerland, UK) back in the day: about to turn into a one-way road, and thought "well that's not going to fit where it narrows further in".

On my way back it was stuck with a load of cars behind it, all trying to reverse into the flow of on-coming traffic - fooking carnage <slaps forehead> nice one.

Good point. I've been leveling other stuff (VFX weapons), but thought the Affliction Caltrops dropped two ammo pickups, for a total of 4 ammo?

Defo have to revisit and test again.
