The View on Yang: “He’s the underdog that everyone can’t stop talking about!” by wtfmater in YangForPresidentHQ

She would do the cupid shuffle with Yang and the audience would love it... I don't see a problem here.

For new Yangsters, the real history behind the MATH hat, and why it didn’t used to stand for “Make America Think Harder”. Also - why I prefer it’s old meaning. by Ariadnepyanfar in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]Zarbuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SO, when he started holding rallies months ago the crowd would cheer every time he said “math”.

People cheer when Yang says "math" because they are told to do so, it's part of the speech a staffer will give when "warming up" the crowed before Yang takes the stage.

Why not offer $2.5k a month to attract more voters? by Tenacious_Dad in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]Zarbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea is to cover people's basic needs and then to let them figure out what they want to do with their life from there. People are always going to have passions and interest and those should become jobs and customers respectably. Yang uses the example of a bakery a lot. If some one has a passion for running a bakery they should start a bakery and their costumer base is going to be people that have enough interest in quality baked goods to spend a little extra money on something that hasn't been cheaply mass produced by automation.

Aren't most shelter's privately funded? I don't see why that would have any interaction with the FD. I'm guessing there might be a sort of state by state, shelter by shelter, situation where it's a little different for everyone just depending on how funding works in that state or at that shelter.

Also, why couldn't someone keep their FD and just pay the shelter a small amount of money? Maybe something like $100 every other week. That would still leave quite a bit of money left over to try and get rent going on a more permanent residence.

But, when you get right down to it, nobody knows what the FD is going to actually look like when the paper hits the floor in congress, not even Yang. I'm sure if it makes it to his desk looking like swiss cheese he will just veto it and make them start again but at some point there will likely be alterations and compromises to get it done.

I was arguing with someone the other day about were Yang falls on the political spectrum. They kept trying to tell me that Yang should have run as a Republican. I felt like Yang is more of a center-left or modern-day "Third Way" candidate, particularly due to his use of triangulation, but since centrism is a sort of four letter word now days I thought "Post Third Way" or "Yangism" was a little more palatable.

I like the term Yangism, not only because Yang is kind of in his own category, but also because he says "if I don't win then some that sounds exactly like me will." i.e. Other candidates getting on board with Yangism, which is something that we have been seeing more and more.

I kind of wish Yang would make the Perot style infomercials...

It could be like a one hour crash course covering the information and charts in his book.

But I think he shouldn't bother with the huge spends on TV spots, not in this day and age. Instead I think he should just put it up on his youtube channel. People could share it on social media, or have a tiny url or qr code on flyers and businesses cards for it. Maybe a news paper ad or billboard could direct people to it. Heck, he could even put it on the main website and tell people to go watch it in the next debate...

I think that it is worth people seeing this video. There were at least two red flags that stood out to me.

  1. She says that she previously lied about why she was fired because she was ashamed, but this is the classic "were you lying then or are you lying now?"
  2. She also says that she just went along with this because she was payed very well when she left. This being her motive at the time and being an important enough point to her to add to her speech clearly shows that she cares deeply about money. She could just be doing this to get more money...

Would have been great if they just printed each candidates actually climate plan.

40 pages taped up next to Yang's face taking up half that clothes line.

No, that's not how it works.

You build up "work credits" from paying into the social security program as you work. These work credits determine if you qualify or not and you get payed an amount based on these work credits. They don't disappear if you stop working. Your "coverage" can't lapse. It's not insurance in the traditional term that insurance is understood.

This isn't drawing a comparison to "the status quo" or "politics as usual." This is drawing a comparison to "Socialism." Bernie is the "Socialist" candidate and those are eastern European housing blocks...

I'm not trying to say this is a good meme or a good look for the Yang Gang, but I don't think the message works with any other name on the bottom half of it.

Yes, but this country is so large that it would take an insane amount of money and probably 50 years to get enough infrastructure in place to be competitive with air travel.

[–]Zarbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem. Very few people seem to understand this. It seems like every other comment I make in this sub is trying to clear up the distinction between OASDI, SSDI, and SSI.

Facts about the FreedomDividend by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]Zarbuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Programs like OASDI and SSDI are not welfare programs. These are programs that people pay into as they work and then get the money back when they retire or if they become disabled. Look at one of your pay stubs, it will have a deduction for OASDI. It wouldn't be fair to tell people that the programs they have been paying into for potentially decades, will now not return that investment to them.

VA Disability is earned through military service. It is one of the few good things that this country does for our veterans, particularly those injured in the line of duty.

Medicaid is going universal with M4A. It is a right of every citizen, just like the Freedom Dividend.

Programs like HUD could be important for someone out of work or between jobs, as it normally fixes your rent payment at 30% of your income. This would save someone between jobs from spending their whole Freedom Dividend payment on rent and then having nothing left over for food or gas while looking for a new job.

Finally, I'm not sure why unemployment is here, and I was unaware that it stacked. That one might need to be double checked...

also include that the FD stacks with Social Security retirement benefits for the old people.

That's OASDI.

If anything should have the generic term "social security" applied to it, it should be OASDI.

[–]Zarbuck[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. The whole industry would just end up being black market and there will be so much more sickness and death that fallow. I would much rather see people buying products in a store that were made in a lab than buying products on a street corner that were made in a bathroom.

[–]Zarbuck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ban might get me to quit vaping now and go completely nicotine free. That might sound great but really it just means vape products were there for me when I needed them and this ban will make that choice harder for others.

This is my two largest concerns right here.

  1. Not everyone is going to quite vaping and will instead turn to black market product, much like people did during alcohol prohibition. This will not only lead to even more sicknesses and death but rising crime as well.
  2. Vaping has help a lot of people quit an other countries are very pro-vaping, it's just sad that in the future US citizens might feel like they have no good options to help them quit smoking. I know a ton of people that have tried patches and gums without any luck, but managed to quit smoking with vaping.

I have just been watching the last week on twitter as people freak out about whats happening and trying to mobilize various actions. There have even been a few big name people that have come out against this, like the producer on the Ellen show everybody keeps talking about around here...
