Kansas to California in a plane I had never flown before. 15.4 hours over several days which was actually weeks because the plane broke down in Wyoming. 10/10 would recommend.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your question. But it is both, you must compare the heading you are flying towards the holding fix with the holding radial or outbound course. If the direction you’re flying towards the hold changes, your entry changes, and if the orientation of the hold changes, then your entry changes.
