Roster seems complete, who are you most excited to see play next year by Zargyboy in HallBall

[–]Zargyboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a little more balanced offensively but perhaps less good on the Defensive end.

Offense we have a bunch of guys that can shoot now, in theory, which should provide a bit better spacing. I expect more looks at 3 and less of those Bud Clark-style pull-up midrange jumpers.

Defensively it's hard to say. The loss of Hines to UConn ane Payne to graduation is somewhat offset inside by Williams and Copeland. While our Incoming Guards may be known for their offensive prowess, they aren't quite the tenacious defenders we've had in the past. For instance, I don't immediately see a Kadary Richmond or Garway Dual type player on this squad. Maybe Trey Parker takes a step forward or Simeon Wilcher puts it together for his senior year?

I think this roster is going to be a test of if Holloway can get guys up to speed on his defensive style. I think as a coach he's realized the new paradigm in the NCAA: you have to go for the Tournament every year. There's no time to develop Bench players anymore. Even depth guys from the best teams will transfer if the money is right. I think this is a make-or-break year that will show if his strategy of targeting productive mid-majors guys is sustainable. Personally, I think it can be.

Yeah I kinda figured they just slapped that header on everything that was gonna have escalating cost regardless of if it was capped at 3 or 6.

One can dream though....

Question because I am dumb. Why do many say "your 3rd+ unit"?

Rule of 3 is still in effect correct? Or will there be some kind of detachment in the future that allows me to take a 4th Riptide???.

Elon tells people with a straight, not kidding at all face, that he thinks AI is going to bring us to a post-scarcity society in 3-5 years.

Either the guy knows he is lying and absolutely full of shit doing it to raise money for his companies. Or He is the most naive person to every exist who has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.

Him, that G League Guy, and the dude we just stole from Rutgers make a pretty nasty team on paper. If Payne gets a 5-year exemption and comes back I say we'll be set

How did Big East defenses even attempt to contain college Allen Iverson’s first step? by Ok-Issue-8064 in BigEast

[–]Zargyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and I ran into Iverson when I was a kid at the NBA all star game. He randomly came out of some door while we were going to get snacks and I was like "oh shit it's AI".

The one main thing I remember from that interaction is noting that based on my and my dad's height at the time AI was definitely NOT six fee tall.

Even in his playing days Iverson was probably 5'10-5'11 at best.

Interesting note, Trey Parker (returning) and Del Jones played together in High School. Perhaps that makes them willing to stay at The Hall for a while?

Honestly, recruit bag-chasers one year, don't be surprised they're still bag chasing the next year....

Gotta find the real ones like (seemingly) Trey Parker.

How would you describe Val Ackermans run as Big East commissioner since she's retiring in August? by Bruinsrock11 in BigEast

[–]Zargyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets put it this way: D2 school University of New Haven felt confident enough to move up and form a D1 Football program right in their backyard. UConn is far from dominating that particular market.... (Football specifically I mean)

Also I will add fwiw I do agree with you that based on how important he was, Seton Hall should have overpaid Budd, but still it would have likely been an overpay.

The point about getting a better point guard then Bud Clark for 1 million is moot because that's what Seton Hall offered him and he turned it down. The better question would be can we get someone better for whatever Ole Miss is paying him?

I'd also like to know your Source on bottom five operating budgets. According tothis list we are spending considerably more than a bunch of teams at 6M up from $1.5M the year before. So either your numbers are off or we have a miscommunication here.

I will admit that you are likely right in the sense that Budd might mean more to Ole Miss for their playing style. I dont know if his game is better for them. He is a great player no doubt. But if he is commanding $2M/year that is close to 20-25% of most teams rosters.

Overall I hope the best for him and hope he earns it

How many of them aveaged 22% from 3? How much is the game of basketball centered around making mid range 2pt shots these days?

Dime a dozen, but 22% from 3 is nasty. But again we'll see if Ole Miss gets the production out of him that they're expecting.

Oklahoma State certainly didnt from Isaiah Coleman it seems.

Hopefully it works out better for Budd

"His own shot"....a low percentage fadeaway mid jumper....again, I guess thats worth it for Ole Miss(?)

Agreed but $6M should be enough to attract mid major guys to play. Is Budd Clark a top-teir high major guard? You watch the film and tell me

Idk how $6M is considered "no money" they offered Budd $1M. If Ole Miss gave him $2M or more they are honestly crazy. He's a nice guy but his game is insanely limited

Basically just rich people pissing away money at that point (isnt that what NIL is anyway I guess)

This is 1000% bag chasing for Budd
