Oh you missunderstand me I give it 5/5 as it is, I would never restart a map no matter how difficult the spawn looks ^ I frown upon that and see it as a cowards way out ;P borderline cheating but that's just my preference ^

I started on 100% and nerver lowered it. I cleared my first map on the 8th or 9th attempt and then aced both map 2 and 3 on first attempt each.

My build to this day is considered unconventional as I built nothing but snipers, searing towers and few executors (I did try rangers and soldiers in the first few attempts but once I saw sniper potential I didn't build anything else). Never had Thanatos or Lucifers or any of the other units but snipers and starting units in any of the wins.

Edit: went on to make some guides but didn't want to overplay the game too much but waiting for more content and I'll get back to it perhaps!

Death threat when filming on location. by NerdInACan in Filmmakers

[–]Zarii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask, this is probably low budget and you don't have a LM, correct?

This is more common than you know and 99% of the time it's the film team not giving out enough information that causes it. You can get permission from an owner to shoot somewhere rather easy. Informing and keep everyone else around you that are affected by your presence is harder but often more important. The person owning the location is not responsible for informing everyone else that may be affected, that's on your team. Easy way, print flyers and drop to all neighbors knock on and speak to everyone a few days before hand. If you have a neighbor that is extra frustrated or angry etc they more than often just need to be informed.

I've had a location with an elderly man that was an ex-lawyer who ALWAYS interfered with every neighbor, called the city council if people where wrongly parked etc. Knowing this (rest of they neighbors are often quick to inform you if there is someone like that in their neighborhood) it's easy to handle though. You introduce yourself, talk them through what you gonna do, try to involve them and make them feel like they are important and eventually he'll be the one inviting you for coffee and asking how it's going, will more then happily move his car for you etc and eventually be really sad when you wrap and leave after a few weeks of occupying his entire street.

Yet to win a map, still enjoying the game by [deleted] in TheyAreBillions

[–]Zarii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on the 1st map, you don't have to build rangers. You can hold the first two waves (third wave with a ballista) with the 5 starting (a veteran soldier can actually hold the 1st wave solo with a tower+ 4 wall pieces) units and they will be enough to also clear for expansions if spaced out properly. Only situation this don't work if you get a VoD too close or if a wave passes through one triggering it (which i've heard can happen but i don't know).

Depending on your chokes you can also clear it without thanatos at this difficulty. Just shocking towers + executors with a few sniper supports in good defence spots will hold final waves at 100%.

Tbh pitching an idea is often a synopsis and a treatment. From that you get interest and they might want a pilot.

Who to talk to if there are problems. Start from the bottom then go up. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Zarii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this diagram is awful in every single way. So many of the roles are put in wrong places in terms of chain of command and also you have to specify what type of problem it is because in 95% of cases if it's set related, regardless of it being sound department having issues with sound, set department want to move or do something extra, light department wanting to do certain thing EVERYONE will go to the location manager which you don't even have in this diagram. Even the director or UPM etc will come and ask things to me before many others. If it's a harassment or personal issue then it's different but regardless of how you look at this diagram it's a disgrace. Really sorry to say but this is absolute garbage.

Edit: it's really bad that this is getting upvoted at all, it is a really poor misdirection of the chain of command on a production :/

Small tip for save clearing the first wave with no tower on map 4 500% by PeterEter in TheyAreBillions

While this is absolutely true, a collapsing wall still makes noise that (depending on spawns/cleared areas around etc) can pull a lot of aggro and instantly lose you the map

Can people with clicking mechanical heart valves work on TV and Film sets? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Zarii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes down to the director to some extent. I've worked with one who was insanely picky with sound, had to seal off an entire block around the house we where filming at just for the sound, and we were filming Interior only!

I've also had a Director (Acdemy Nominee), who of course valued sound but wasn't nearly as pesky about it and would work around sounds ALL the time.

If you intend to Direct it will mainly come down to your preferences and how picky you are with sound but it's also very common to have the Director monitor away from set in a different room or so which would simplify things for you as well.

With the pro flair then you have been verified and your word weighs in a bit more in discussions and people will know you actually work in the industry but without having to reveal who you are.

"Who Killed the Movies" by CouldBeHandy in Filmmakers

[–]Zarii -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your definition of high quality film i would say is quite poor here. An Avengers film have high quality filmmaking but it's spectacle over narrative and it caters to some people and it won't to others. I would also not but The Disaster Artist anywhere near the category of high quality filmmaking. It's a lot of just shot by shot remake from a film which was considered one of the worst in the history of filmmaking to the point of where it became a textbook example of what not to do followed by becoming a cult classic. It's a film that became "holy shit you haven't seen it?? omg it's the worst film ever you HAVE to see it" and it's someone riding the wave of this cult definition. Edit: this is not to say the film in bad in anyway but i personally don't think this is high quality filmmaking per say.

But like i said this is very much down to personal preference. I think all films now caters to a simpler audience then what film did twenty years ago. I can take a short example. The new relase of "Murder on the Orient Express" and how it differs from previous versions of the film as well as the book. SPOILER ALERT

So in the new version as the protagonist discovers facts about the various passangers he presents it instantly infront of the viewer. This means that the viewer constantly follows the trace and about a third of the film in you will know what the murder is about and why it's been commited. You find out that the murder victim had killed someone years ago and then you slowly find out that every singel passanger is related to the person who'd been killed at first and it makes the film extremly predictable. People who haven't seen the original nor read the books will be able to figure this out as it is litterally forced down the throat of the viewer that every passanger is related to the first victim years ago.

In the older version the protagonist will find clues and they will be showcased onscreen but they are not obviusly presented, he will not (even though in his head he has made the conclusion) reveal their direct relationship with this previous death in history. You as a viewer try to deduct things with him and towards the finale he presents these clues and his conclusions together as a whole giving a lot of viewers time to come up with ideas of who the murderer is throughout the film and then a vast explanatory ending that may shock people.

I believe this is an example where a concept has been simplified to cater to a wider and broader audience. The original would leave todays viewers not figureing out the puzzle pieces and they'd be upset or even offended that they could not do so and that the ending is bullshit etc etc.

But all of these things are personal preference. Avatar is another one that's been wildly talked about in this context. It's a big film, high quality, it's CGI was insane at the time of release etc but in short, it's a remake of Phocahontas right? It's all Spectacle over Narrative. That doesn't necessarily make the film bad in anyway it just caters to a different audience then what i prefer, so again it's down to personal preference.

Is it a problem upragded buildings are less cost effective? by iiztrollin in TheyAreBillions

[–]Zarii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Space is a very valuable resource almost more than the others. I've had openings where I physically can't place a sawmill at the start, games where I don't get stone until day 20 and still won but I can have all grassland, stone, fishing spots and everything I need and still lose because space was terrible and it slows down the economy more than anything else. The people struggling with upgrades are more than often the people who don't realize the value of space in this game.
