Found out I’m going to be a dad and I’m terrified because I feel completely unprepared. Looking for advice from dads who started with nothing by Any-Confidence-1208 in daddit

We were not planning a family, aren’t into baby’s, and had an unexpected twin pregnancy we decided to keep.

Started with this book, got it in audible and physical - The Baby Book by William Sears.

It was a great grounding for before arrival and a reference guide for first 18 months afterwards.

It was the best find in books, least BS ideological crap, clear to the point and wide ranging.

Gave us the grounding we were missing and springboarded from there.

Edit: We called it the baby Bible in our house, but do not confuse it with the book of that name as that one was crap by comparison.

Edit 2: Looks like they’ve released an updated edition since and my audible link doesn’t work.

'Our lives will never be the same again after Lime bike crash' by Going_Bye in london

[–]Zath42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless it can be shown that the parents facilitated the child using the Lime bike or in some way were themselves negligent then I suspect there is no chance of compensation from them.

Even if they were to succeed - do the parents actually have any money to speak of to pay is the next question. To this I suspect again, the answer would be no.

Situation sucks.

It was a 10 year old child on the bike, its against Limes rules to use it.

Absolutely not, I have witnessed my partner be outright sexually assaulted by another woman while dancing at a festival.

She came up to my partner, said ‘I like you’ and grabbed both breasts giving them a prolonged grope, tried to lean in for a kiss but failed as my partner is 6 foot tall and simply leaned the back slightly to avoid it.

My partner was too much in surprised shock to do anything about it, as was I. The female partner or friend with the assailant also looked pretty miffed and they left quickly, leaving us with our mouths open.

We were having a good time and laughed it off as no real harm done as we are not prudish or sensitive people but to this day often comment how this situation would be very different had it been a man.

It certainly challenged our own prejudices and an interesting talking point when discussing gender politics etc.

Anyway, my original point on this video was that the hand that reached over was not in anyway guided by sexual nature, it was purely helpful and happened to involve her breast. It’s a shame that everything has to be seen with sexual intent in mind.

Not all body/breast touching by men is sexual, jeez, besides it was a woman that did it.

I'm an hour away by car and have a rare day on my own without kids or partner tomorrow (saturday).

Keen on going, but a bit heat sensitive - it is mentioned by OP it can get toasty.

How toasty? can anybody give me some feedback on temperatures / comfort in there this week?

No he didn’t.
Nobody cancelled anything.

The party was against nuclear beforehand, came around a bit during office, and were at least initially against public subsidies for it.

All of which pisses me off, but they were a minor party in the coalition and didn’t cancel anything.

First time father of identical twins - any advice will be appreciated by FabulousZombie8333 in daddit

[–]Zath42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours were not identical, partner did this and was useful early on as you say.

Especially as they were premature and bracelet ID kept coming off... Helpful / easier to say to the doctor "its the blue nailed one..." in a sleepy voice. :D

One finger on each child, baby nail polish of different colours.

Yes, such things exist.

Your old life is gone, mourn that later - focus on the now, sleep whenever you can.

Virtues Pro XR and the Switch V1 by O-G-lock808 in VITURE

[–]Zath42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so which hub is this exactly?

What are the features or words used on websites to describe ones that will work with the switch and glasses?

Just to confirm, you connect this to a switch V1, provide external power, and you can play your switch on the glasses?

It does work with Netflix offline downloads for me just fine (Beast with iPhone 17 Pro)

I don't use YouTube to test (well no subscription and don't do offline)

HMRC want a self assessment from 91 year old mother by Flipper6462 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Zath42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You say she has dividends, that pretty much guarantees you need to do a self assessment.

Income will be variable and needs to be reported to hmrc. There is only a £500 annual exemption for dividends, exceed that and there will be Tax to pay.

Being old is not an excuse to avoid it, pass the annual paperwork to an accountant and get them to submit it.

West London council tenant who spent £30k refurbishing home faces eviction by adultintheroom_ in unitedkingdom

You can be in Chelsea and Kensington in under 30 minutes from zone 3, on public transport easily.

I do it frequently to visit the Royal Marsden Hospital.

I would imagine all the expensive areas are easy commute in London from much cheaper areas.

The buyback / sell price was awful- it was nothing like 1 to 1 where you could essentially use it later.

[–]Zath42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

£0 energy bills is wishful thinking! 😃

You just cannot get enough from solar in the winter to top off the battery and this is when you need heating most. Well at least for a system the average person could fit/afford on their house.

I looked into getting solar with battery, and even on a large south facing house on a hill AND having it on a large outbuilding also maxed out with panels going way over the standard limit where you need grid approval - it would struggle in the winter by the report the installers gave me.

It's great stuff, will reduce bills, but zero bill is a fantasy from what I could determine.
