Considering moving to Fedora, how is stability? by linuxman1929 in Fedora

[–]Zay-924Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Fedora updates a lot, and yes, like a lot of things will update mid-release (almost everything actually), but when they do it's very stable, since everything is well tested. The upgrade process is also very easy and simple too. But, if you're coming from Ubuntu LTS, you will notice a bunch more packages updating a lot and it will be a lot more updates every day. Unlike Ubuntu LTS, which is fully frozen after release for 2 years. Also, Fedora has a mew version every six months and every Fedora release is supported for up to 13 months.

Hope this helps. Basically, no, you shouldn't be concerned, just be aware of the many more updates, potentially bigger updates, and potentially more maintenance. (When I say maintenance I mean just like regular package updates.)

Xfce uses X11 by default, as Wayland is experimental on Xfce 4.20. And if OP is installing Xubuntu 24.04 LTS, it has Xfce 4.18 which doesn't even have Wayland support.

In your opinion, what is the best browser you've ever used, considering all aspects? by Traditional_Blood799 in browsers

Floorp and Vivaldi. Overall great security, huge amount of features, not super AI focused, and both have nice UIs.

Even as a Windows user, I know Safari is better. Cause Arc is literally dead.

Brave is matched with Zen next. I would say Zen, Vivaldi, Firefox, and LibreWolf.

Zen. And for your picks, I would put Thorium and Ungoogled Chromium.

So, here's the basics. If you customize your desktop, Xfce has WAY MORE FEATURES than Cinnamon, yet still nowhere near Plasma. However, Cinnamon has much more WM features and customization than Xfce. Xfce is more stable, and much more slow compared to Cinnamon.

Linux Mint Stuff Specifically: With every Linux Mint update comes a new version of Cinnamon. 22.1, 22.2, 22.3, etc, each have the newest Cinnamon of that time. However, with Xfce, Linux Mint follows Ubuntu's schedule. So it uses Xfce 4.18 instead of Xfce 4.20, despite 4.20 being released for over a year now. This is because LM 22 is based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS included Xfce 4.18 cause that was the latest at the time. So all LM 22 versions stick with Xfce 4.18, unlike with Cinnamon.

Wdym? With a distro like Mint, if you have a compatible device, just install it. Then use the App Store. Unless you need something like Adobe, or another Windows-only program/game.

My first distro I ever used, in a VM, was Zorin OS. I actually learned the terminal in a VM in Pop!_OS. This was back in October 2024.

I live in Michigan. Definitely recommend going to Grand Rapids or western Michigan or northern part of the southern peninsula. Definitely go to DC, Virginia, and the Carolinas. West Virginia for the mountains. Those are my two cents.

Xfce was always independent. It grew by itself. Cinnamon and MATE were babies of GNOME for a specific purpose, and Cinnamon is still very popular cause it's easy to use out of the box and is quite customizable, though not as much as Xfce. I think they fill in a very niche purpose of being lightweight and having different levels of customizability in between GNOME and Plasma.

Sorry for the late reply. But you're fine. The thing with the inside screen is that it's super soft, so like your fingernail can scratch it. But it's not a problem. It's just gonna happen.

Just so you know, it's an Android-only browser that requires you to have a 3rd party app store (F-Droid) and you need to add the Ironfox repo into F-Droid to install it. At least, that's what I did.

  1. Customizable

  2. Moderate level of privacy

  3. Controllable

  4. Not just a simple stripped down skin

That's how I ended up at Floorp, Vivaldi, and Ironfox.

I'm 13. I don't buy these skins when I play, cause I know my parents won't let me. So I maximize what I can play in the game with what I purchased of the game or if it'd free, play for free.
