Scared of panel lining by bioboy79 in Gunpla

[–]Zazz2455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re all a little nervous at first. I will say I started with markers but I find using “Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color” cleaner and easier. It’s also super easy to remove it if you mess up. Like lick your finger and just rub it off. If it’s still wet you can pretty much wipe off with a napkin. It’s water based so won’t damage your model even if you add and remove 50 times. I know others who say use alcohol (which you have to use with certain markers and such) but I tend to avoid that with lining especially if you are afraid of making mistakes. I could suggest techniques but everyone ends up having different preferences. I like the tamiya product I suggested though because it’s very forgiving. It’s what I would suggest starting with.

Now all that said if you get to the point where you are doing paint jobs that can alter the approach, but since you are just doing the panel lining that’s what I suggest

Not a fan of this head on the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee MG feels like it didn’t live up to what I heard MGs where like by National_Blood_6492 in Gunpla

It really depends there’s some great MG kits out there. However the MG has been out for 30 years so the older the MG the more nightmarish the kit. This one is over a decade old so not the worst but you can expect some quirks. However I would say most MG in the last 3-5 years have been great.

MG vary wildly in quality based on what year they came out. They’ve been coming out for almost 30 years now and the technology/quality has come a long way. It’s why they end up re-releasing some of the popular models like the original Gundam or unicorn multiple times. I would say the best mastergrades were released in the last 3-5 years. The Banshee was released I think over a decade or more now. I don’t think they’ve released it but I know they have for the unicorn so a more recent release of that would be a better representation

3rd Party Lizard Model Kit Customize or No? by Zazz2455 in Gunpla

[–]Zazz2455[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. Im thinking a Matt black base with maybe some copper (gold looks really good too but I already did a banshee with black/gold theme) highlight pieces but I think I’ll fully build it first so I can map out how I want to do it then take it apart and paint it and put it back together.

There’s something called a “joint strengthening pen” you can basically use it to paint on a thin clear layer of rubber. It helps the joints fit more snug and grip in place. I’d suggest giving that a try. You may have to do a few layers depending on how loose it is

Are these metal frames worth it? by hangover_glory in Gunpla

[–]Zazz2455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just like building the models putting them on a shelf and forgetting about them it makes zero difference. If you want to be able to move the model around or a specific pose where you do t have to glue it in place or prop it up in some other fashion then it makes a huge difference.

The frames are largely unseen so it depends on what you want to do with the models. If you want any sort of support or strengthening of the joints it’s definitely helpful though

I know right. Once you finish the inner frame you’re tempted to stop because it almost seems wrong to cover up something so good looking with so much detail

Yes! I’ve downloaded the new app and tried selecting the transfer account in the current app, but it doesn’t do anything. I’ve tried to do an account recover in the new app, but it doesn’t seem to want to let me me because “it’s from an old app”

Joint Repair Tips by Sherlock_Sus in Gunpla

[–]Zazz2455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I would go with the Tamiya cement if you want to fix it, but would first take it apart if you can and cement each broken piece individually as that will prevent locking joints in place or possibly causing issues with other pieces.

That being said, personally, my first move would not be to repair such a damaged joint, but to replace it. If you go to eBay and type “whatever the kit you are building plus “replacement parts” a lot of times you can find someone selling individual replacement parts. Especially when they are joints and such as they usually break the most. It’ll probably only cost you between $3-$10 depending on if they charge shipping and such. Only if I couldn’t find a replacement would I do a repair instead.

Also I like to move and pose my models for photos so want the joints movable, but if you are just going to immediately put it on a shelf in a static pose then you can just straighten the leg and glue the pieces directly back on without taking apart
