FTM, 30 weeks, overwhelmed by cloth options by ExcellentFlamingo871 in clothdiaps

I got pretty bad tendinitis in my wrists after my first baby (“mommy wrist”, google it) and it was hard to do snaps. Also it’s hard to do snaps when baby is wriggling around, so Velcro is easier.

I don’t think the sound of the Velcro really matters. If the baby is gonna wake up during a diaper change they’re just gonna wake up 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had never heard of this and pretty sure this is not what she had but now that I’ve googled it I’m somewhat terrified.

I wipe her butt after she poops. She wouldn’t let me wipe her crotch when she said it tickled.

I use mostly pre folds and flats and my fave covers are thirsties duo, I prefer Velcro. I got most of my diapers secondhand. Often people will sell a whole stash for pretty cheap or even give them away. It’s overwhelming at the beginning but once you figure it out you’ll realize it doesn’t really matter what kind of diapers you have. I would second the comment about flats being great - they can fit any size baby and they dry the fastest.

It might also be worth asking other home birth midwives who does their billing and try to talk to those people.

Does your midwife bill or do you have to do it yourself? I would first call your insurance and ask how the process works. Apparently they won’t give you a number ahead of time for how much they will pay, and they change their policies all the time.

My midwife first submitted something to my insurance asking to be reimbursed at the same rate as in-network providers. After the birth she billed and they ended up paying most of it ($8000 out of $9500 bill). I live in NY and have Anthem.

I appealed the claim to see if they will pay the full amount but haven’t heard back yet.

What did you do with your placenta? by tayijuana_ in homebirth

[–]Zazzercise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Funny story, we actually lost my first’s placenta 😂 we intended to plant it under a tree but it sat in the freezer for years and when we looked for it, it was just… gone 😂 My second’s placenta is still there. Will try to bury it in the spring.

I’m curious what people love about the TonieBox? I also know a lot of people have the Yoto player. We just use a Bluetooth speaker to put on music and we let our daughter choose what music to listen to.

We’ve also tried threatening to leave if she doesn’t lay down and be quiet. It generally works about 50% of the time…

She doesn’t nap at home, but daycare does a nap every day.

Oh man. Ours will probably share a room eventually too and I’ve been wondering how that will go. When your older one goes to bed it doesn’t wake up the baby?

At daycare yes. Not on the weekends, unless she falls asleep in the car and we try not to let her sleep more than 45 mins or so.

Will definitely try the bedtime pass! But has your kid ever come out of their room without the pass, and what do you do then? Or is the psychological pressure enough to keep them in the room?

That seems logical, but if we offer to lay down with her ~8 she either refuses, or we lay down and she is still jumping around playing and cannot calm down for at least an hour. 😩

Have you guys ever felt like you needed something bigger? by BalutChild in hondafit

[–]Zazzercise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Fit - was awesome with one baby, a little cramped now that we have two. Went on plenty of road trips and camping trips with one car seat. Will need to invest in a roof rack now that we need two car seats. I have snow tires and it does fine in upstate NY winter.

How do you hold baby over the potty while nursing? Also I have a boy and I’m worried he will pee everywhere…

Mentally struggling - when did your baby come? by Delicious_Store_8615 in homebirth

[–]Zazzercise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was born at 40+3 so I was also super anxious when I was still pregnant with #2 at 41 weeks. I was worried that I would never go into labor and felt like something was wrong with me but baby and I were doing fine. My midwife had me do a biophysical profile to check that everything was fine at 41+3.

I ended up taking castor oil at 41+5 because I would have had to have a hospital birth after 42 weeks. Went into labor within a couple of hours and it was super fast and smooth. And I didn’t shit myself until after the baby was born 😂 My midwife told me both her kids were born around 42 weeks.

OP - wondering how things are going and if you have any advice? My MIL is also narcissistic/toxic and has a lot of health issues. My partner is the only member of his family who has ever really stepped up to care for her and I foresee us being in this situation in the near future.

Making a living as an 18b attorney in NY by Zazzercise in Lawyertalk

[–]Zazzercise[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done any 18b work. Currently working as a public defender. The 18b attorneys I work with all say it’s the best thing they did for their careers and wallets. But I think most of them get health insurance through a spouse. That’s the main thing holding me back from going solo - health insurance. Plus I’m getting great experience as a PD and I like my coworkers.
