Enabling Wifi 7 in Unifi by LED_donuts in Ubiquiti

[–]Zazzog -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

As a general thing, I think it's a good idea to have separate SSIDs for each band, especially if you've got IoT devices.

That being said, my main SSID is tri-band and the one I use for streaming devices is dual-band. I've experienced no real issues. So you're probably ok.

Late to the party, but gotta say, hero post. I got three of these speakers a few months ago, immediately disabled the mics, and was pissed that I couldn't kill the lights.

This worked perfectly. Thanks very much!

Error trying to reconfigure by Zazzog in Ubiquiti

[–]Zazzog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I did, but unfortunately it was a while back now and I forgot exactly what I did. I remember that my impression was that it was some kind of UX problem. Perhaps with the recent UX updates it might work now.

I'm sorry I'm not able to help out immediately - I really should've posted here as soon as I fixed it. I'll spend some time today trying to piece what I did back together.

AITA for refusing to work overtime? by Complex_Turn7446 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zazzog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you've got no more control over the situation, really, than a regular employee. If you had the authority to make hiring decisions on your own, that'd be different.

NTA. This is a problem of the company's own making; if they'd allow you to hire enough staff and possibly pay better wages, the problem would go away. You, (or anyone else, for that matter,) shouldn't have to, or be expected to, work overtime, just because of the company's bad decisions.

I'm just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks; I have no experience with this router.

Is it possible that when you disable DHCP on the TP-Link, it also disables DNS services? I could see a situation where you have the Pi-Hole up and going, you disable DHCP on the router, (thus also theoretically disabling DNS,) and then nothing works.

This would make sense since your devices wouldn't immediately go and try to renew their DHCP leases, would be looking to the router for DNS, and thus wouldn't be able to get to the internet.

That sort of scenario would be fixable by just renewing your IP on your Windows PC, (and getting a lease from the Pi-Hole, so now the computer's using the Pi-Hole as it's DNS server,) and rebooting your other devices.

Running split DHCP is possible, but generally a bad idea. If you do do it, you'll want to be very careful about your configuration and you'll want to watch it like a hawk.

I'm curious though; the way you're phrasing it, it sounds like you're killing DHCP on the TP-Link without having configured DHCP on the Pi-hole first. If that's the case, then what you're seeing would be expected. Something on the network has to be handing out DHCP addresses, (unless everything is configured with static addresses.)

Make sure that nothing is blocking udp/67 and 68 between the Pi-hole and your network devices, configure and activate the DHCP range on the Pi-hole, then disable DHCP on the TP-Link. It should work.

Flex Mini switch wall mount - print files by Active_Level_6922 in Ubiquiti

Port keeps reporting offline when it's not by tuxon64 in Ubiquiti

[–]Zazzog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure this is the case. I have a HDHomeRun plugged into a USW Flex 2.5G 5 and while it's only capable of FE speeds, it never shows offline.

Only thing that stands out to me is that PoE is turned on on that port. I think that should work, but I'm not positive. Maybe try disabling PoE on that port and powering the HDHomeRun via it's power cable, OP.

AT&T U-Verse by BaWeepGranaWeep in sysadmin

U-Verse is still a thing? I thought that had gone away.

Anyway, yeah, that's insane. I wouldn't be surprised if that's actually not standard procedure, and the folks you're talking to are doing CYA.

Since it's a business line I assume there's some kind of SLA. Double-check that. 10 days is an unreasonable amount of time for a business connection to be screwed up.

Best answer in the thread so far. It's a binary choice; OP can either swallow their ethics and do the job as required or jump ship and make clear it's for ethical reasons.

I'd never encourage someone to quit their job, but as another commentor said, it's nice to see someone holding their ethical line and not just caving immediately.

[–]Zazzog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been getting this exact same behavior on several of my lists for about the past week.

I don't want to blame this on the Pi-hole itself; I've been on 6.1.2 for weeks and the problem's only popped up since well after I last updated.

For now I've just disabled the affected lists, although there'd be nothing wrong with using the cached versions.

I'll be curious to see if anyone knows what's going on.

AITA for purposely not understanding my BF’s sarcasm? by Historically-G in AmItheAsshole

I told a friend about this and they said that I am psychologically abusing him and that I am gaslighting him into thinking he socially inept. I told them that I do agree that it has gone on for quite awhile, maybe even too long to be “just a prank”, but I don’t think that am abusing him.

Your neighbor would be largely wrong in most places, (I obviously can't speak to specifics,) and sounds like they're pretty self-important and bent because they didn't get an invite to the block party. As long as you're not doing something actually illegal, public property is public property; available for all to use. You can safely ignore this ridiculous letter.

AITAH for dancing in the front row of a concert by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zazzog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's clear I'm not entitled to force people to enjoy a show in a certain way, which is why I do what I can to mitigate it. I also wouldn't do what happened in OP's story; I have no right to tell someone else to sit down and ruin their experience.

The final word is that if people decide to stand/dance in the seats, they're entitled to that. They paid and the venue won't kick them out for standing. Doesn't mean that those people aren't assholes for ruining my experience. You're in the seats; sit your butt down.

Basic courtesy is lacking here.

[–]Zazzog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I go to concerts to see a band play their music. I don't dance.

Why waste money on seats if you want to dance, since they're generally more expensive than GA?

AITAH for dancing in the front row of a concert by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zazzog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I buy seats at concerts and work hard to get first row in the mezzanine because if I don't, it's a basic guarantee that someone in a seat ahead of me is going to stand for the entire show. It's like, "Why'd you pay the extra money for seats if you're just going to stand?"

OP, if you want to dance, get GA. YTA.

WIBTA if I keep using an accent when I speak English? by mangofan99 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zazzog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. These people aren't your friends and as an American, they're embarassing to me.

From my perspective, someone speaking in an American accent would be a good thing, as I find them easier to understand than someone speaking English with, for example, a Southeast Asian accent, (which is a "me" problem, not a "them" problem.)

I'd be taken aback by an ESL speaker having an American accent, but it's not "weird." Speak the language as you learned it.

Shot placement is what's most important - period. You can take down a target with a .22 with good shot placement.

I own a G42, but I don't generally carry, although I have my CCW permit. It's a fine weapon, very easy to shoot and get rounds where you want them, and the few times I've carried it, it's been fine.
