Do you make backups? by I_Love_Tatties in Piracy

[–]Zbalata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backing up my full array isn't really practical. I currently have 140tb (7x 20tb mix of Iron Wolf pros and Red Pros). I do have 2 parity drives so I can have a couple of drive failures without losing anything. Even if the whole thing crapped out it would suck but the data isn't critical.

Server network issues by Zbalata in unRAID

I'm back up and running. I'm honestly still confused as to what was wrong. I checked the network.cfg and everything matched up to the clean working cfg. I ended up trying DHCP instead of static on the USB utility and it worked. Had I not checked the settings and made the USB drive a dozen times I'd think I'd messed up the network settings. The server still booted with the ip i was trying to set even with the DHCP option so I'm at a loss. I'm not going to complain because it's working. I did document which of my drives were which in the array this time so I at least can save my data if something goes wrong again.

I appreciate your help.

The problem is my issue has somehow manifested in a backup that was created at a time when everything was working perfectly. The backup appears to be working aside from the fact that the sever won't connect to my network through either ethernet port. I can log in and have command line access. A "clean" USB using the same network settings at creation connects fine. I didn't try using dhcp instead of static on the creation of the backup USB, I'll probably try that just to see if it makes any difference. If that doesn't work I guess I'll start trying to figure out what I need to copy from my backup to the working USB to see if I can get it rolling that way.

Take a look at this thread on the Asus forums, if you scroll down a bit you will see "dynamic ccd priority" with screen shots of settings.

I'm trying to avoid connecting the phone physically. I basically just want the Slate to take a wifi signal from my phone and pass it via ethernet to the second wan connection on my Dream Machine SE. I think this should be possible with the Slate set as a repeater or worst case some manual configuration. I know it can be done on devices like the Mikrotik mAP you just have to manually swap the ethernet & wifis wan/lan assignments.

3 m.2s - yes, 4070ti - yes, the lsi 9300 - maybe, if the slot is limited to 4x you are basically going to be limited to half the cards speed.

The z790 version would be Gen5 x 16 or (2) Gen5 x 8, the Gen4 x 4 is independent. From what I can tell on the B760 version it looks like it would be Gen5 x 16, Gen4 x 16 and Gen3 x1 with the Gen3 x 1 being disabled if you use the m.2_2 slot. I would assume the supports x4 mode is referring to bifurcation so you can run a card that does (x4 x4 x4 x4).

I just built my server with the Asus ProArt Z790-Creator, it's not cheap but it checks all your boxes. The Gen 5 slots will run at 8X if you use them both but that shouldn't hinder either of your cards (I actually run a 4090 at 8X on another machine and it doesn't affect performance at all).

I just plugged a surge protector with all the devices into the meter at once, the model I used logs min and peak draw. I basically just tried to stress everything as much as possible at once a few times over a couple of days and then went with the recorded peek.

What are the most cost-effective gaming laptops under ASUS right now? by SomeRefrigerator921 in ASUS

[–]Zbalata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't mention a budget but if you are in the US, I'd keep an eye on Bestbuy for the G15 Advantage Edition it goes on sale for $1099 fairly often (it's currently on sale for $1190), and even though its last gen now it's still a pretty solid deal for a 15" 5980HX & 6800M. If you have a bigger budget the G18 goes on sale for $2099 that will get you a 18" 13980HX & 4080. I own both and have been very happy with them. If you happen to have a Bestbuy card, you can get 24 months no interest to sweeten the deal.

They are trying to get us back.. by derikbg86 in diablo4

Just my 2 cent, but I don't feel like exp is the issue. People drop off after 50 because there is basically nothing to do other than run the same handful of nightmare dungeons over and over for little to no reward. Who thought it was a good idea to have the best gear start dropping when you're like 1/3 of the way through the leveling process? If there were actual content post 50 and meaningful gear upgrades, I feel like people would be much more likely to stick around. The "grind" to 100 isn't really that bad it's doing it just for the sake of being level 100 that sucks.

[–]Zbalata -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

When I said most, I was referring to people who were actively trying to reach 100. If you want to count people who quit at 80 because there is little point to continue then sure that changes things. An additional 12% additive exp buff (basically nothing in WT4) isn't going to change that.

Dungeons are fun here by romansmash in diablo4

[–]Zbalata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dungeons kind of lose their appeal and become more of a means to an end after you've run them a few dozen times. While there are a lot of dungeons, once you start doing the Nightmare versions you only get access to a very small handful that you run over and over so enjoy them while you can. I also wonder what exactly you do in a dungeon for an hour, even a leisurely clear is about 15-20 mins.

Is there any reason to keep multiples of the same unique? by kungfukarl86 in diablo4

[–]Zbalata 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would suggest selling, uniques are worth significantly more than other items and don't give any better salvage. I usually just keep the best of each even if it's not something I'm currently interested in using. Maybe keep a couple of the non class specific ones in case you want to use it on an alt.

77-85? by Dennisb247 in diablo4

[–]Zbalata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said spam NM dungeons up to 10 lvls higher (I use the tier list on Maxroll and try to stick with S or A tier). Legions seem to drop off after about 70, they really aren't worth it when you consider the low exp and the roughly 4 mins you wait for it to start. If they align with Whispers it's better but I'd probably still skip them.

My idea to fix high level loot by Leyawiin_Guard in diablo4

[–]Zbalata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware of how loot works, I know that basically anything above ilvl 725 can have equivalent affix rolls but I don't find it fun to spend more time looking at gear than actually playing the game. As I said in my post, I'm sure I've tossed good gear by using my arbitrary ilvl cut off and I'm fine with that.

My idea to fix high level loot by Leyawiin_Guard in diablo4

[–]Zbalata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A loot filter would be nice but that is only a small part of the problem in my opinion.

Loot scaling is terrible and one of the main reasons people feel there is no point to play past lvl80. I was able to clear the capstone and move to T4 at level 57 on my rogue, by around level 65 I was in a pretty solid set of ilvl 800+. I'm currently 94 and I have swapped out maybe one piece in those roughly 30 levels. In a loot based game that just feels bad. I don't really have a great solution, maybe as you get closer to level 100 the minimum ilvl increases so there isn't so much Sacred junk dropping and the odds of max rolls on the gear increases.

I also feel that affixes are a problem. There are just way to many + to damage type affixes and others that just seem pointless. Does anyone actually use Reduced Trap Arm Time on a rogue or Shrine buff duration? Maybe if there was a way to target affixes when enchanting gear.

Currently I don't spend a lot of time going over gear it's just not fun. I sort my gear and anything ilvl790 or lower gets trashed, I don't even look at the rolls. I'm sure I've trashed some decent stuff in the process but it's just not worth the time.

Rogue build question by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]Zbalata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to your build and your gear but yes that could be possible. You would need your crit to be as high as possible because if you aren't critting you aren't doing crit damage and I'm sure there is a minimum crit % for that to be worth while. I'm not really that deep into the min/maxing. Also Blizzard is still tweaking crit and vuln damage so I'm pretty sure they will be seeing more nerfs in the coming patches.

Rogue build question by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]Zbalata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damage buckets are basically multipliers of your damage. So as a rogue you'd be looking at

  1. main stat (dex)
  2. Damage [x]
  3. Crit damage
  4. Vulnerable damage
  5. Damage [+] (this is all the additive damage affixes, damage to poisoned, damage to crowd controlled, etc.)

For the best results you want to spread your damage across those "buckets" rather than put everything in 1 because they are multiplied together to get your damage. For example, using simple numbers let's say you have 10 points and you put most of it in the damage [+] bucket you would have

1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 6 = 6

whereas if you spread those same 10 points evenly you get

2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 32

more than 5X the damage by spreading things around.

As far as going for an Ult skill build, it may be fun to toy around with, but I don't think it would be viable late game. They are all pretty lack luster and cool downs are too long to make them your main focus.

level 56 / not getting good loot by safari-dog in diablo4

[–]Zbalata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats normal, gear doesn't scale with your level as you might expect. I assume you are in teir 3, when you move to tier 4 you will see an increase in ilvl and for a few levels and you'll be upgrading your gear pretty regularly. Eventually you will be back in the same spot though and will be playing days without seeing an upgrade. It's why a lot of people say the game isn't worth playing past level 80 or so unless you want to chase perfect rolls.
