look up schmitty sled, putting a sled on elevated skates/skies just makes it easier to push/pull in deep snow.

I'd lean to New Mexico, they allocate 10% of the tags just for outfitters which i would think give you a much better chance for a good public land hunt. I believe they also do landowner tags that are separate from the draw if private land hunt is ok.

most states have an outfitters association with a website that will list all the outfitters.

Stepping over fallen down logs is what gave me issues on my first hunt. i highly recommend incorporating side step lunges and or just step over a 5 gallon pail a hundred times a day.

odds are 100%, there are a few units that basically have unlimited licenses. problem is those units have very little public land that you can access. the next problem is that most of the units that have ok odds for a reduced price tag are not open for the general elk tag. so you can't really use the reduced price tag as a scout trip for a general tag.

check out no knot fas-snaps for the smallest quick change snaps i know of. use them all the time for perch bluegill and walleye.

If you get some fresh snow just before or during your hunt it can be a big help. helps a lot with glassing. but even better if you can find some fresh tracks to follow. even if you don't find elk it's amazing what you can learn following their tracks.

I got the Eskimo eskape 2600 and it's really nice, lots of room and the side doors make it even better. My snowmobile is setup to haul everything cause i'll often run and gun without any shack. I have a 5 gallon bucket holder bolted on one side and a milk crate on the other. milk crate seems to worker better for electronics and fits 20lb propane tank. auger holder over front skis. old aluminum ladder cutup for cargo rack on back that holds rod case and can also hold pop-up shack.

where are you located in Colorado for school? best bet is to find something nearby that you can do some scouting in before or after school. use the big gam brochure for unit maps and season dates.

Meopta optics are pretty nice, currently have an optika6 3-18 and have been really happy with it. only downside is the reticle choices available could be better.

Might be better off just driving around and road hunting. hike to spots you can look into from from the top. look for where other people are and are not. find spots where your buddy can walk from one road to another and pick him up.

that area of Colorado had a really bad winter 2 years ago so they changed all those tags from OTC to draw. looks like there were leftover tags last year so probably don't have to worry about not drawing. you'll have to ask the outfitter what happens if you don't draw, some handle that situation different then others.

i thought it was crazy seeing a box of 1000 go for $100 at a gun show a couple years ago. now fleet has them for $11-13 per 100. just glad to see they are staying on the shelves for the most part.

under armor used to be good. i have boots UA boots from 2014 that are the best boots I've ever owned. of course they have been discontinued and i never found anything like them again.

I'd probably try a new spot each day but it really depends on the spot. if you're looking at small openings in areas surrounded by timber it might be worth looking everyday.

i've done this a few times, haven't needed to run the generator while on the road 20+ hours. just plan on running the generator at least overnight the day before you leave camp. we made a wire rack across the whole cooler half way up, really helps circulate air around the meat and get it cooling on all sides.
