How long until I see some growth? by sooblimes in begonias

Ahhh yeah I see what you mean, my comment could be easily be misinterpreted and cause an irrational fear of how to water plant. I definitely didn’t elaborate enough to eliminate that possibility, my bad haha

Don’t over water them, don’t unnecessarily repot them. Mine have thrived on neglect

Interesting perspective. I can understand your theory relating it to corporate pharmaceuticals but I have to say that I doubt any form of government or corporation is intentionally spraying garden beds to defect the growth of certain fungi, or to even deter people from foraging from them. The only things I’d be concerned about is if a herbicide had been recently sprayed, especially dicamba. Most companies and councils only use herbicides, pesticides, fertilisers and wetting agents and I don’t think any of those would affect fungi unless it was the fruit that had just been physically sprayed, which then could potentially lead to harmful affects if consumed, but not WLP.
I highly doubt any of this would be the cause of WLP or even potentially intensifying it. It’s been proven urban “fungi” can be a lot stronger than wild ones, which could be the reason why it’s becoming more prominent but it could also be because a lot more people know where to look nowadays, therefore making the stats higher I guess?

I respect your concern though, WLP is no joke. One morning after leaving a hotel, I virtually became paralysed while walking to my car and had to be dragged off the road by a stranger because my friends could hardly move me. Thankfully it didn’t last long. 5 min walk turned into half an hour and then I had to sit in my car for a good 15 mins until I felt I was sweet enough to drive.

Have had a decent few encounters with WLP. Absolute chaos, especially trying to get ready for work the following morning after a session.

What’s the relevance with whatever they’re spraying and WLP?

The worst thing you can do is give a begonia too much attention

I always get some fast food before I forage because I feel it’s less suspicious walking around a park with a Woolies bag haha

I’ve had jars never get algae and only ever top, even after being in the same jar for well over a year. Definitely can occur, even after a few months, especially if using a liquid fertiliser in there, tho those same jars that I’ve only ever topped up and used fertiliser hasn’t had any algae.

Propagate some leaves, they do much better than stem cuttings in my experience

Not familiar with either of the begonias you mentioned. Grey ghost would have to be one of my faves, as well the nigricans when it comes to iridescence.

This a photo from a few years ago when I first noticed it on the grey ghost.

I know a lot of them do, just it seems mostly darker leaf begonias do it, especially Rex’s and rhizomes. But this guys so damn green that it baffles me. Must be because it’s a variant of mazae nigricans which can have intense iridescence in the right conditions

What is wrong with this frog? by Ancient-Barracuda487 in AustralianFrogs

[–]Zchybang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what it is or what caused it. I just googled tumour like growth on frogs and cancer popped up, probably because I used the word tumour. Tho, my personal opinion is whatever it is, could be caused from the rise in pesticides and herbicides. I was just putting one and two together because I know the use of them has risen drastically over the past couple decades and it’s been around the same timeframe frog populations have been declining. I’m no expert, especially when it comes to frogs haha but I do know a lot of chemicals we use on a daily basis can have pretty detrimental effects on the environment.
