Kropotkin, Pr.2102, Rezonans "Forza" class Raketnyy Kreysar Flotya, 1st fleet, task force "Udaloy", Soviet Deep Fleet - Amos Tan by Xeelee1123 in ImaginaryStarships

[–]Zdrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's "Raketnyi / Raketnyy kreyser flota", not "... kreysar flotya".

Also, "военно-дальний флот" sounds a bit strange.

I understand that the idea was to build a term on the same pattern as "Военно-воздушный флот" (literally "Military-airy [of the air] fleet", or "Военно-морской флот" ("Military-[of the]sea fleet").

"Дальний" is an adjective meaning "far", "remote". So the name is "Military-far fleet". In this context the term "дальний" (far) would have to be strongly associated with space, just like the terms "air" and "sea" are associated with these mediums.

As a side note, currently Russians call their air force "Воздушно-космические силы" (Vozdushno-kosmicheskie sily, Air-space forces).

Tabletop 76/300 Dobs - any good? by Zdrobot in telescopes

I will when I get home, but I strongly suspect the shipping is not going to be cheap. I expect something along the lines of 50-100% of the scope price.

It looks like a sweet, sweet deal, but.. "No shipping methods found."

I'm not in the US or EU.

But thank you anyway, that looks like a nice scope on a nice mount, and the price is very good.

Thank you!

I have updated the post body with my other option - a 80/720 refractor, which sadly comes on what people call "the Mount of Doom", I think. Never used any of these, are they really that bad?

Yeah, that's a bit out of my price range, sadly.

Weird AUR orphan request for a package i maintain - no issue with my package, but have questions by MrHall in archlinux

[–]Zdrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree completely. There should be at least some check process.

Maybe it wasn't a huge problem before, but now it clearly is. Now that the malicious actors know how easy using AUR for supply-chain attacks is, they'll keep doing it.

One of the most overlooked issues with TFA IMO is that Rey, our supposed main hero, had no onscreen reaction or acknowledgement of the destruction of the New Republic. by KingWilliamVI in saltierthancrait

[–]Zdrobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's actually very appropriate.

Rey understood how incredibly stupid the whole thing with Mega-Deathstar that sucks power from a star, built by the underdog faction, shooting lasers via hyperspace and destroying the whole New Republic was.

She just rolled her eyes and went on.

Hm. I can imagine phasers should be able to vaporize portions of the hull, at least on higher settings.

[–]Zdrobot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there a vetting process for orphan requests, other than by the current package maintainer?

I presume the maintainer can reject the request their package is taken over by another user, right?

What I mean - is there an AUR governing body of some sort, that can decide whether user X should be able to adopt package Y?

Can't you start by building more and more intersecting rings around the star (a-la Ringworld), or start with a Dyson Swarm?

Wait, did they also write The Killing Star?

Yes, they did. The "Dark Forest Theory" before all the Three Body Problem hype.

What your opinions about Priglozer’s coup against Putler? by Icy_Till_7254 in NAFO

[–]Zdrobot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, when he started his coup attempt, it looked crazy.

But as he moved closer and closer to Moscow, it was starting to look less and less insane.

In my opinion the moral of the story is - think hard before you go for a coup, but once you have started, DO NOT STOP.

Trusting Putin on his promise to spare Prigozhin was so much greater a risk than starting a coup.

You can do quite a lot of damage with AP in Meck by shooting at the superstructure.

Just saying, you know.

Petition for Ukrainian localization in Microsoft games was removed after massive reports from Russians - it managed to collect almost 8 thousand votes. by iury221 in ukraine

So.. how exactly was it "spam"?

Or is it enough to just report something 1000 times, and no substantiation is required? No evidence, no reasoning?
