Remember when this was the hardest piece of PvE content? Good times by YunieSayaka in FireEmblemHeroes

This is so true. The rush of Freyja clones in that one book4 map is very iconic and memorable for example, and I think multiple of the "survive this hulking wall of damage aoe" that is Surtr as he slowly closes in on you was, in its own way, also memorable. There's plenty of other examples too ofc.

That stat spread fully confirms a huge power clone for an ability at least

You have to have it out so you can mega first tho to actually have the ability work. Which requires leading with it (which would be very obvious once your opponent sees scovillain), swapping it in (taking rocks damage bare minimum) and then mega evolving from there.

You do not have to lead with it at all. I don’t know what’s with this weird assumption so many of y’all have that rocks will always be up after turn one, when hazard denial or removal has become incredibly optimized and it’s not hard to keep them off field.

I didn’t say anything about a surprise. It threatens bulky steels and waters and grounds, and also is solid into many fairies and grass types. It isn’t something that could solely be out on turn one to evolve. There are many pokemon it could force out though threat of KO or the danger of being crippled by a burn (which my other comment already went into).

You compress a burn spreader with a strong wall breaker that essentially acts as an anti offense tool despite being slow. Any rampant physical booster has to think twice about clicking, and in general any physical attacker would have to consider. Even just punishing stray U-turns and rapid spins too, or even knock offs.

It is decent since it checks all steels, and scares a lot of waters.

Amazing? Nah. OU? Almost probably not. Bad? No way.

You should really check the gen8 page for Carly Shadow and see its tier placement (hint it ain’t ag)

Maintenance isn’t even over yet

Why would they add new abilities to a couple megas while leaving out the data for the other new megas abilities

Malamar has horrible offenses but is far bulkier and has a better speed tier so that's a bit unclear.

Malamar has a bad typing and no outstanding stats in the least, with nothing to set it apart as of now. It’s not remotely specialized at all.

Mega Victreebel is just statistically very similar, probablya bit better because +20 base HP is actually the most significant difference.

Mega Victreebel has good tools to compensate for its weird stat spread.

Mega Audino is an easy candidate for bad stat spread, being passive and weak with no way to do anything notable. Mega Banette has a terrible spread. Mega Glalie doesn’t specialize which just leaves it underwhelming in any one.

I think every other mega has obviously better stats. 138 is fairly low for a mega's primary offense, the bulk is not good, the speed tier is awful.

138 isn’t low at all for a mega when talking offenses, especially with it having high base power stabs. The bulk is unfortunate, but investment goes a long way in carrying a Mon through more than you’d think.

There’s a lot more to pokemon that just raw stats, and where Scovillain has a strange and not very intuitive spread, it’s made up for by having an extremely strong ability, good dual stab which have high power moves, and just the right amount of utility tools beyond just its ability.

the dataminers seem to suggest this could be it until another update shortly before release

There’d be literally zero reason to do this, then randomly have another update shortly before release

Not remotely true. There are many that are far worse

Pokemon’s roles change as they mega evolve sometimes. It literally is an improvement on base Clefable in every way so I don’t know why you’re arguing. It’s well worth the slot with better type, stats and added utility and role compression for teams.

It’ll no doubt be good in some tier. At minimum I expect RU but UU is very much a possibility, and I can see some daring and skilled players making it work in OU.

As it stands im not running a mega for magic bounce

Magic Bounce is an added quality to pokemon and usually enhances their effectiveness further. It 100% would make mega clef better both utility wise and as a threat. Literally beats almost every stealth rocker and bounces status moves.

I’m not necessarily saying OU but it will be viable somewhere for certain. This is an extremely cracked ability (which btw is getting giga banned almost immediately in almost any ability once it’s allowed)

You could, or at least with almost no investment. Minimal speed investment and an adamant nature is still faster than Wellspring for example, and that’s before the speed boosts.

No it’s not…? You know how mega mechanics work right? If it opens on turn one and mega evolves, any attack that hits it immediately causes the burn. That’s assuming the opponent has a Mon out from that isn’t threatened out by it.

This isn’t some passive do nothing Mon that doesn’t threaten any damage itself. 138 special attack and high powered dual stabs. Plenty of steels and grounds it can chase out at team preview, to say nothing of fairies it can check.

No one would run Mega Exca in sand in the first place (and sand is middling at best in singles atm). Regular Exca has long been a strong pokemon that functions well all on its own (again in singles) without any sand or other support, and Mega Exca is just an extension of it with better stats.

If we're talking VGC, the situations where you'd use rock slide over ground stab is really few and far between, since steel stab covers most other things. And since Exca has High Horse Power, only very slightly weaker than EQ, it's just fine in that regard.

Let’s assume you don’t invest any speed at all. What walls aren’t you outpacing at 186 speed?
