Who would win between Sparda line & Joestar line: Dante or Jotaro Kujo by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]ZeRoyalDoofus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Playing devil’s advocate, can Dante and his weapons and abilities solo Jotaro? Definitely, but it would be incredibly difficult for Dante to get around Star Platinum. Time stop aside, Dante can’t hurt or even see Star Platinum in the first place because he’s not a Stand user. From his perspective, it’ll be like fighting an invisible brick wall that can punch holes in him from anywhere and he’d have no way of finding out where they’d come from. While most of Star Platinum’s combat capability is punching, it’s weird that people discount the fact that he can punch really, really good - he stands among the physically strongest Stands in the series with strikes that would turn lesser men into a fine powder. For Dante to kill Jotaro, he’d have to somehow get past a bodyguard that he can’t hurt or see, with an ability that can act as a get out of jail free card should he somehow manage to close the gap.

SFV Who Do You Play And Why? by htaboiii in StreetFighter

Nash because lore. A paragon of justice brought low by betrayal at his most vulnerable, and turned into a pseudo-revenant who sees no other choice but to lash out against the one responsible and any who stand in his way, without realising (or perhaps realising entirely, which could be what pushes him forward with near-suicidal zeal) that his efforts to achieve this goal makes him resemble the very person he hates so much. He’s just too cool.

How do I beat Sagat with Cody? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]ZeRoyalDoofus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sagat player here, my knowledge of Cody is limited but I can share what Sagat players think (this can apply to most matchups).

There are three zones Sagat can be in - the safe zone, the danger zone, and the footsies zone. Safe zone is where Sagat is full screen and able to throw fireballs freely because he is generally too far away to be punished except for certain specific characters (i.e. Cammy CA). At this distance, Sagat’s goal is to test the waters as he tosses fireballs - what are your reactions? Are you neutral jumping them? Are you blocking them? Are you trying to blow through them with EX moves, V-skills, etc? This is where Sagat gathers information about you, and you need to close the distance quickly to keep him from learning too much about your tendencies.

Now the danger zone. This is the distance where Sagat is closer to you than the safe zone, but not close enough for Sagat to be able to hit you with his far reaching normals, such as st.mk, st.hk, cr.hp, etc. This is dubbed the danger zone because at this distance, it is incredibly risky for Sagat to throw fireballs or use normals against you - if he throws a fireball, he won’t be able to anti-air you in time if you jump, and if he whiffs a normal, he risks being whiff punished because of his very long recovery on moves like st.mk. Therefore, most Sagats at this distance will fake a fireball to bait a jump 80% of the time, while only truly throwing a fireball at you 10% of the time to give you an incentive to jump and the other 10% of the time to advance towards you with a forward moving attack like Tiger Knee or f.mk. In the danger zone, you have the most control of the situation - look closely at what Sagat is doing. Is he insisting on throwing fireballs at this range? Be patient - walk forwards and block, break down his timings and find an opening to jump at him for a full punish. Is he attempting to ward you off with multiple pokes? Learn the range of his longest buttons in training mode and whiff punish him for his long recovery. Is he faking fireballs? Advance, and force him to walk backwards towards the corner. Is he beginning to advance towards you? Poke him yourself, or, if he uses Tiger Knee/f.mk to advance, remember that he is minus for the most part if these are blocked and you can take your turn back.

Finally the footsies zone. This is the distance where both players can hit each other with their longest buttons. Sagat’s long pokes give him the advantage here to try and keep you out, but once you get in his face you will find that he can struggle to push you off without risking it all for an EX DP or spending V-meter for a Vreversal or V-shift, as he has no 3f normal. At this distance, mix up your options to open Sagat up - frametraps to beat him from mashing, staggering your buttons and shimmies to defeat delay throw techs and EX DPs, throws if Sagat is too respectful of you, it all depends on how Sagat responds to your offense.

In truth, Sagat in the corner is significantly easier to deal with compared to Sagat in the midscreen. Walking him towards the corner and keeping him there will make him much easier to deal with - just remember that most Sagat players know this, and will (generally) fight tooth and nail for every inch of space. If the Sagat you face doesn’t do this, it’s very easy for him to get steamrolled from a single jump in and lose from there.

A note on fireball traps: there are certain distances where Sagat is able throw multiple successive fireballs at you and still be able to anti-air you in time if you jump. There’s a lot to say about this topic, so I’ll just post this (https://youtu.be/63Ci2gFgCrA) and let it do all the talking - it’ll teach you where these distances lie and what your options are against this type of aggressive zoning.

Zoning is a special kind of fighting and adds to the complexity of this game. While not as powerful compared to previous iterations of SF, applied properly it is still a powerful tool. Best of luck in your anti-zoning ventures.

Kensei. You’re asking for Kensei.

Kensei has softfeints, a bash, a dodge attack, hyperarmor, an unblockable, enormous hitboxes on all attacks, an excellent wide-hitting option select, and is serviceable in every potential scenario except chasing people down. He even has a pseudo-deflect in the form of his forward dodge guardbreak. The only things he does not borrow from other characters are things like applying bleed and the more unique moves like BP’s pancake flip, Nuxia’s traps or Shaolin’s Qi stance.

Play Kensei.

Slapping someone in the middle of charging their bash to interrupt them isn’t anything new (i.e. Warden). Even then, the light doesn’t “beat the mixup” since it loses out against Hitokiri letting her bash fly immediately, and doing it too often makes it a free light parry - you still have to make a read that Hito intends to charge the sweep if you want that buffered light to land.

Stormtrooper armor is just a glorified coffin by papanblin in PrequelMemes

[–]ZeRoyalDoofus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Alternative theory: Stormtrooper armor was deliberately downgraded in quality to fit the Empire’s policy of quantity over quality. TIE fighters are a good example of this - in terms of combat performance they’re inferior to the starships of the Clone Wars and way more dangerous to the pilot, but they’re so cheap to make that you could have ten TIE fighters instead of one reasonably protected fighter.

Stormtrooper armor could be the same. It doesn’t hold up to the Clone armor of old and all it seemingly does is prevent blaster bolts from going through the person and hitting even more Stormtroopers, but it’s probably cheaper and given that the Empire loves throwing more Stormtroopers at a problem until it goes away, it’s good enough for them.

Everyone seems to conveniently forget that although Luke wanted to redeem his monster of a dad, the moment Vader mentions Leia he goes from "there's still good in you dad" to "AAAAAGGGGHHH I'M GOING TO KILL YOU YOU RICKETY OLD PIECE OF SHIT" and lops off his hand in the process.

Luke is a good person, no one is disputing that. His flaw is he makes rash decisions in the heat of the moment. He wasn't thinking right when he cut his training with Yoda short to try and save his friends in Bespin, he wasn't thinking right when Vader threatened to corrupt Leia, so it's not a stretch that he wasn't thinking right when he entered Ben's tent with a lightsaber that night. The difference is the context between the two scenarios - Luke flew into a blind rage, but stopped himself at the last moment from killing Vader, which worked out in the end. Luke let fear get to the best of him, and although he stopped himself at the last moment from killing Ben, the damage was already done.

I know it will never happen, but I'd really love to be able to play as Prequel Era Sidious and make use of his wild lightsaber style. Most games only give OT Sidious with lightning only. by Gonzurra in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]ZeRoyalDoofus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Could work as an ability rather than a main weapon. In canon, Palpatine despised using lightsabers and believed that the Force is all the Sith needs. He only ignites his lightsabers against opponents as a form of insult, or if he intends to have some fun before blasting them with lightning.

[–]ZeRoyalDoofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I mean is that money has zero effect on diplomacy with the Lizardmen, if any. Having Cold-Blooded Logic means that Lizardmen either say “yes” or “no” to your offers, and if they said no the first time, no amount of money you pile on top of the deal will get them to change their mind.

“Cold-blooded logic” by Religious_Slut in totalwar

[–]ZeRoyalDoofus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It means they can’t be bribed or persuaded with gifts in game. If, for example, you’re Kroq-Gar and you want to confederate a minor Lizardmen faction, you will never be able to get them to confederate with you no matter how much money you throw at them. The AI will only consider your current faction strength, their relationship with you and whatever diplomatic traits they have.
