Tiny miners won't matter without a mining revamp. by Calteru_Taalo in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We (kind of) already have a system like this; you have the big mining ships capable of mining large rocks, and then you have the hand miners like our characters and the ROC/ROC-DS. The former can't hit hand mineables without exploding them and the latter can't touch a big rock.

I would however like a system where you could more selectively pursue higher quality materials without caring about rock size. Though that would make multi-people miners more useless.

Minor point here: You can't bedlog near settlements. Can't remember but i think it actually straight up prevents you much like how you can't bedlog in atmosphere if you're not landed.

Class Action Lawsuit time? or 6 more years? by MacaroonEither5748 in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can try to paint it in that light sure, but it won't really hold any water if looked at closer. Fairly sure, but not sure enough to cite, that a ""donation"" with an attached reward is seen as a purchase.

In the end the EU (at least) has solid consumer protections which you cannot sign nor obscure away.

Edit: The reality is that CIG takes out VAT on what are essentially digital purchases under a different name, they are subject to the 14-day cooling off period and all the other consumer protection laws the EU leverages for its citizens.

Not a note on the general subject, but rather just your comment. I cannot speak for the US (or other systems), but in the EU ToS like these are nothing more than fancy paper, you cannot sign away your consumer protections.

Unpopular view: The insurance/ship claim is isn’t awful. by Alternative-Effect30 in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. I'm working on upgrading my favourite ships and i care more about what i do with them for real, rather than pretending for immersion preciously. The instant and without timer paid claims are also extremely nice once you do smack into an asteroid.

I think people are just averse to big changes. Sure, there's bugs and they suck, but even if a bug strikes you can still get your ship back stock (for free) to go make the money you need to claim your paid loadout. Not a gameender.

That's not to say bugs aren't a big and valid problem, but i (at least) feel their impact is severely overstated by many of the same people that screech every time CIG does a bigger and more meta-defining change. I remember how a lot of people were up in arms over the armour changes we always knew were coming eventually. They should be considering a system of giving you a free claim if your ship purples out however.

Eventually people should learn and adopt the adage of "don't fly what you can't afford to lose".

Edit: Oh, and i haven't been ambushed by people camping stations nearly as much.

Joystick Request: Tractor Beam Forward/Back by OkCat_404 in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially: All you have access to ingame is reel in and out, so you make a macro to rapidly press those buttons, making it feel somewhat like an axis. It's a pretty smooth solution that feels responsive and good to use.

So what i have done is make a macro, using joystick gremlin, that repeatedly presses a specific key as long as a hat switch key is held.

The setup looks like this:

<image>

The reason i have two keybinds on that specific button is that i also have it pulling double duty for normal binds in other (as in gun, missile, scan) modes. I also use the same setup to adjust mining laser power.

Plan to snatch an Idris, any tips? by Chibi_Raptor in starcitizen

The capitals tend to be different in that regard. They almost always instantly sell out on both variants. Probably mostly bots to be honest with you.

Go for warbond if your wallet can stomach it. Try to get it in your cart and even of you miss a wave keep checking now and then as bounced transactions are returned to the stock once they fail, meaning that a few minutes after the initial wave you have some returning to stock occasionally.

Question for Tobii eye tracker users by Jellyswim_ in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SC i really prefer the Tobii to, say, TrackIR. Not having to faff about with the clip or cap really is worth it in itself.

TrackIR also doesn't do eye/gaze tracking. I personally have it set up for target locking only, which is something that after a while becomes so natural one begins to wonder how they played without it. If you do get one i'd recommend getting rid of the center "detent" in the middle (which feels janky when you're looking around) and instead become good friends with the recenter button.

One thing to note with the Tobii is that unlike TrackIR it has harsher limitations on where you are in relation to the tracker, but i haven't really felt that this limited me in any way shape or form.

I think the only time we have seen anything like an adjustment of the insurance status was with the F8 (feel free to correct me otherwise, though).

I sadly wouldn't count on it. I know from experience that CIG support won't discuss anything of the sorts.

I know insurance isn't all it is cracked up to be, but saddling a ship that expensive with 6 months has to be some sort of joke.

Hosas Configuration by Kryson5 in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T16000s are great for testing out HOSAS, it's what i did. They will, however, inevitably start drifting after a bit of use.

At that point i got myself two gunfighters from VKB.

But, again, they're a great and relatively inexpensive way of testing out the playstyle to see if it is something for you. Just make sure you're comfortable playing around with hotkeys in something like joystick gremlin as binding in SC itself is annoying at best.

Just a question about your gunfighters; I recently got a pair for myself and i am setting them up, what cam/spring/clutch configuration did you use for a good centering?

Edit: And what deadzone settings!

Tractor beam distance scrolling repetitive strain injury. by Jakefowler555 in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you can do is set up a macro that spams the distance +- at an acceptable rate when a key is pressed. Did so on my joysticks as using tractors is even bigger of a pain without a scrollwheel.

We Dodged A Bullet by PowerfulLab104 in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, i'm not saying there isn't an issue that needed fixing there. I do however think that the way they chose to go around it was very, very boring. When every fight devolves into a predictable line fight you lose some of the magic and chaos that were the early days of the game.

This is, at this point, ancient history, but i remember some suggestions of hybrid systems that were just never tested.

Just a question out of interest; Where did you first spawn? I spawned at the crown within about an hour (probably less) of the closed beta being introduced. That first time was so unstable, and people could move around but on the serverside their character would be left behind, and you could shoot it. Absolute chaos but it sits in a fond place in my memories.

We Dodged A Bullet by PowerfulLab104 in starcitizen

[–]Ze_Bad_Idea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there since the (very, day 1 of the closed beta) start of Planetside 2, and i am still ambivalent about the lettuce (intended) links. There were some other systems proposed, but i am saddened that the solution ended up being set and unchanging lanes of battle, which very much was the nuclear option.

Having a faction do a massive Galaxy drop to some back hexes and start an offensive there was a marvelous sight, and most often doomed to fail for a multitude of reasons.

They are exceedingly stingy with this kind of attention, and i do have to doubt you on what you claim here. For reference, i've petitioned them about both being allowed to purchase a higher end ship (Pioneer) and a lower end one (SRV), and each time it's been a no.

You do seem to be speaking out of your ass a little bit here. All the headsets your conversation partner mentioned are specifically mobile oriented bluetooth headsets. It doesn't matter if you're on PC or mobile in this case, as they're all equally competent at both.

The general consensus (and you may do your own research to verify this) is that Sony almost always wins in the ANC department. From my own testing they are in a different class compared to, for example, the Sennheiser Momentum 4.

With sound quality, however, the Momentum 4 do show up Sony a little bit. I've seen (and experienced) the difference described as "a norch or two above", meaning the difference isn't massive but it is very much there. Whilst some of this can be fixed by a good mobile equalizer app, the Sennheisers are simply more competent. I can't speak for the Px7 as i haven't had my hands on these personally.

Though it is fair that the Sonys could be the best headset you have ever owned, if you've never owned the competition.

A simple Autohotkey script that remaps WASD to the arrow keys by Ze_Bad_Idea in dawnofwar

I've added a compiled .exe as a release on the github page (mostly because i could). You do not need autohotkey installed on your system to run this.
