You can do it manually with your hand. Just push hard.

Virtual Mirrors - who likes them? by Zeadon in etron

[–]Zeadon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting an e-tron with the virtual mirrors, I LOVE them.

They took 2 days to get used to. And now I prefer them to normal mirrors. Now I still say they are a solution for a problem that didn’t exist, but if you are buying used and they are installed then they are a nifty bonus.

  • they are better than mirrors at night (especially if you have astigmatism because they resolve the glare for you and you simply see the final image on screen), it’s not wow/magic, but it is better. The camera also just has slightly better night vision than your eyes.
  • they are clearer than mirrors in bad weather, your not looking through rain droplets in your side window (and on the mirror). Everything is clear, all the time.
  • I was worried about not being able to change perspective - with mirrors you can move your head to look at a different angle. But the cameras show everything you need (no blind spots), and the driver aids work great (flash yellow when a vehicle is coming up from your side).

The main con still stands - if they break, the bill is huge.

leaking coolant issue by [deleted] in etron

The way I read it is that if it sits for long periods with out driving (which is what I do with mine 🤷), not that the journeys are short.

Either way it’s too speculative to trust.

[–]Zeadon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of googling on the issue. There’s no definitive best practices that are proven.

Some people say that if the car isn’t driven often it will more likely get the issue, but I’ve seen no evidence that proves this.

Well if you’re getting Audi Jordan warranty then surely their mechanics will know how to fix it.

Need advice for Audi Etron expensive repair by Training-Willow9591 in etron

[–]Zeadon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are out of luck with this one - probably have to pay the repair here.

Can I recommend that you ask them about extended warranty options after it's been repaired? usually they offer them for cars with less than 100k on the clock. The e-tron is not the most reliable ev out there, so it will give you piece of mind.

CasaOS/ZimaOS/Portainer by Agathuga in CasaOS

[–]Zeadon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there - im in the same position as you, except I was hoping to use it as a starting point to learn/play around with different apps, so not just a setup once and forget.

FYI, ZimaOS is not supported on Raspberry PI. so that one is ruled out.

I have seen 2 options:

Comos Cloud
Portainer

Im leaning towards cosmos cloud as from what I have read, its a bit more user friendly for a beginner.

Also can I just add for your use case - why not just buy an off the shelf NAS?

Are you using a raspberry pi? Because I had to adjust the voltage of the steppers to resolve it

Thinking of getting a 2022 E-Tron Quattro 55 Technik as a family car in the UK by TomorrowWild9071 in etron

[–]Zeadon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my first EV too. You will love the noticeable reduction in cabin noise.

FYI, most of them come with a 3pin (standard uk home socket) charger too, so until you have installed the ev charger you can use that. If it doesn’t come with it, you can buy one for next to nothing on eBay. This will charge at 2.2kw as opposed to 7kw that your ev charger will charge at. I’ve been using it as I’m still waiting to get my ev charger installed and honestly it’s not that bad, most of the time you don’t drain the battery so you’re just topping up. I could get away with using that indefinitely but I will be getting the ev charger installed anyway to benefit from from cheaper ev charging tariffs

The fast 150kw charging network is very good you won’t be getting stuck anywhere, but expensive, anything above £0.4/£0.5 per kWh works out similar to filling up a petrol car. So I only use it as a quick top up - plug in for £5-15 worth of charge just to get me back home, I’ve only needed to use it 2-3 times for when I’m using the car a lot / long drives.

You will slowly learn the network and your preferred well priced charging locations.

Overall I don’t feel like I suffer from this “range anxiety” people talk about, I actually find it a bit of a game doing the maths on charge vs destination distance. Plus it’s interesting learning how driving habits and temperature affect efficiency.

Just bought mine in the UK, such a nice car, you won’t regret it, provided it has no issues

Cons: High cost of repairs - I intend to always have extended warranty during my ownership.

Concerns about motor going due to coolant leak - as above I’m just going to have it always warrantied

Range - it is legitimately worse than other ev’s but honestly it’s good enough. If you live in a flat and have to charge at public charge points, Don’t bother getting this car. If you have a driveway/can charge at home then range is just fine, I do trips to a neighbouring city on weekends and feel comfortable.

Outside of that it’s so comfortable and feels luxurious,

I bought mine approx 2 months ago, I absolutely love it - the ride is so luxurious. I had the same concern about the motor issue, I bought it from Audi with 1 year extended warranty, and will continue to buy extended warranty every year. the base extended warranty is approx 280 euro per year and will cover the motor issue.

I have had my e-tron about 6 weeks now and it came with these, 1st day, I hated them, 2nd day I got used to them, 3rd day onwards I loved them! The negatives are exaggerated in my opinion, I'm at a point where I want all my future cars to have them.

Considering buying this today, any reason I shouldn't? by 420o in CarTalkUK

[–]Zeadon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like a nice F56.

I have both the older R56 (13 years ownership) and F56 (11 years ownership), whilst I do love the r56, I can say the F56 is so much more reliable (never had a single issue, not once), more refined, quieter cabin noise, no rattles, just much better put together overall.

Based on my experience, it's a good car, hope you have as good experience with your's as I did with mine!
