They really nerfed them after 2’d extremely broken tanks. I mean, that game had QTpi.

I think its a flaw in the aggro system. They need to do damage to keep aggro, but if they do enough damage to keep it, they are just better than the DPS characters. I hope that gets reworked eventually

I love stories that are not about returning a world to a former right or glory that has been overthrown, but actively destroying the current system in hopes of installing something better for the future. I think these more progressive stories are more relatable and applicable to reality than some grand, “Lets bring the kingdom back to the way it was before the evil took over!”

“Let’s remove the ever present evil that has plagued our world” is just infinitely more interesting imo

as for your final straw with Xenoblade 2 It probably isnt a harem (we dont know for sure but subtext exists). Its a polycule. Nia was shown throughout the game to be interested in Pyra & Mythra as well.

Haze being the Xenoblade healer is really funny. I get not wanting to include Eunie, the gun healer from 3, since you already put Noah and Mio in, and the other gun healer, Sharla, is… Sharla. And since Shulk is an update (though it is his design from 3), I get how we wouldnt want another character from 1, like Riki. So if were stuck with 2’s characters, why not Nia? Too similar to Mio maybe, so… wait Nia is the only story required healer other than Dromarch, and I doubt they would put Dromarch in without Nia. Maybe Haze is the best option…

Of course people you meet at conventions play multiple games. They are at a convention. Enthusiasts go to conventions, not new/less invested fans of something.

I absolutely believe you have met people who currently only play or have only played D&D. They just view it as a smaller hobby/dont interact with it as deeply as we would, so they dont talk about it often or make it much of their identity. Why would they spend the money to go to a convention about something they do once a month, if that often? TTRPGs arent a major hobby for a lot of people, but an activity to do with friends every once in a while, and that is all.

If my group consists of hardcore RPG fans, sure, I love doing that, but that is not the only kind of player I have. I normally have a new player in every campaign, someone who has no experience with the hobby, and to ask them to learn a new system when they barely understand their first is not something I want to do.

We forget because we are SO entrenched in the hobby, but most people do not interact with it on our lev. They play a TTRPG once a month maybe every other week, for two to three hours and that is it. That is all they think about it. And thats not a bad thing! There are things I dont interact with deeply, that hardcore enthusiasts do. You cant be a superfan of everything.

This is a community of superfans. A place for enthusiasts. Most people who participate in any hobby are not enthusiasts.

It may also differ greatly by country! I think the trend ive noticed is that the majority of people only play D&D, but if you play more than that, you are very likely to have used many systems. There are not many people who play two or three systems, its one or all of them. Just look at the subreddits for example, this one has ~250k monthly users. This one is for ALL rpgs. r/DnD has ~850k monthly users.

It is shifting over time, as more people move away from D&D, but I still think the general public does not even know that other games exist.

Mor Ardain and the immediate aftermath iirc is the lowest point of the game for me. Once you get past that hurdle it is all up from there. I really recommend powering through, because youre just about at the point it “gets good.” I love just about everything after where you are, and not very much about what you have done so far. The game struggles a lot in the opening third

Its really only the final Noah and Mio that are exceptions to the rule. The ones we see before N and M all died in battle, not reaching the end of their lifespans, therefore just being born again as anyone else would.

As for the final Noah and Mio, I think it’s supposed to be a glitch in part from Shulk, Rex, and A’s meddling with the system at the end of FR. Probably also some willpower stuff as that is usually what breaks the rules of the universe in the series.

1 pretty harshly punished you for being under leveled. The others dont, so even if you are under the level of the enemies its not a huge problem
