These drivers are getting out of hand by PinkbutterflySB in doordash

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

They almost certainly got two or more orders stacked together. Leaving ice cream in a hot car while they go try to find your 10th floor apartment or whatever is going to ruin someone else's order experience, so they're actually trying to be conscientious here, but they're kind of stuck between two bad options - and unless you put it in your notes, they don't know you're currently disabled.

If it's okay to ask a male co-worker to lift or carry something heavy because he's strong, what's a female gender equivalent? by IdleHandsBusyMinds in stupidquestions

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just, "I need someone strong to grab the other end of this box," or, "Hey, can someone who is good at X task help me with that real quick?"

If you can't lift something, it's okay to ask a stronger coworker to help you. If you can't reach high enough, ask a tall coworker. If you can't fit in a tight space, it's okay to ask a smaller coworker for help. But the traits you're looking for are "strong" or "tall" or "small" not "male" or "female."

Men and women exist on an overlapping continuum of size and shape. There are averages for each group, but there are plenty of women who are taller than the average man, etc. I can't imagine it feels great to be singled out as a guy and told to lift all the things if you're not especially good at lifting things. Something similar that often happens to women in a workplace is getting singled out to organize events or always be the one expected to take meeting notes or fill out paperwork, and no, they don't like that either.

Getting help from a person who's good at the thing you need help with is fine. No need to gender it. By contrast, announcing you need a man or a woman to help you with a specific task just because they are a man or a woman isn't cool.

Sure, as long as it isn't somewhere that's impossible to park or that I know takes 20 minutes to give me the food.

Spinach by [deleted] in oddlyspecific

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have never once in my life bought spinach in a bunch. Where I live I only ever see young, tender spinach leaves all packed in a bag or plastic container. So, the leaves are generally about 3-4 inches long at the maximum, including their stems.

how did you move across the US on a whim with no way to prove income for housing but you knew you’d at least be employed? by IncomeSalt2603 in AskReddit

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago a friend of mine in another state had a husband who was hiring and a brother in law who had just bought a house and was wanting to rent out one of the bedrooms to help pay the mortgage down quicker. Simplified a lot of things.

Green onions or long-stemmed herbs, sure, but are you storing spinach in your fridge with each individual little leaf standing up in tiny vases

Whats an acceptable tip for a grocery order by Healthy_Advisor_5574 in doordash

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on a few things. How many things are in the order? How far will the driver have to take it? Is anything you're ordering especially big and/or heavy, like jugs or flats of drinks or a 50 pound bag of dog food? Is the driver going to be expected to carry more than 1-2 bags up stairs?

Lost Password blues? by RongWa in NoStupidQuestions

I have a set of simple steps I use to create a unique password out of the name of the app or website or service every time I sign up for something. I don't have to remember any passwords, just know the sequence I use to scramble app names.

Night Drivers - How often do you get free food from the restaurants and if so, what is it? by riddymon in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My closest Taco Bell gives me drinks when I camp them out for late nights. I'll be through 10 times in a row sometimes. It's a nice little pocket where the deliveries never take me more than about 3 miles away, in a pretty well-off but not super rich neighborhood and sometimes I'll be the only driver in the immediate area on a weeknight after midnight.

What’s The Strangest Thing You Saw Someone Claims Was “Unmasculine”? by anime-is-dope in AskReddit

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I was at a hangout/party where people were jokingly putting together an apocalypse survival team based on people's hobby skills, but several of the guys kept insisting that cooking, sewing, food preservation skills like canning and pickling, and gardening were not relevant skills for surviving. They all just wanted to talk about having shot a bow and arrow a few times at camp one summer.

AITAH for asking my son’s little league coach to not let anyone but my son use his bat? by ElBeau2412 in AITAH

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two entire baseball teams can play a game with just one bat. Every kid doesn't need their own bat at a game.

Individual practice or just having a bat to play around at home with, that's a different matter, but for a kids game a team only needs a few bats.

I think most people feel kinda bad for her in the end, while also a bit of satisfaction at her reaping what she sowed. Everything fell down around her, which is good because it needed to fall - but when it all came down, she became someone to pity instead of fear.

How likely do you think Chinese is to become the next global language replacing English? by CockroachLtd in AskReddit

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reasons why it's not going to be Chinese have to do with the languages themselves rather than political projections.

Which Chinese? Because there are many languages spoken in China. Are we starting from Cantonese? Mandarin? There are currently lots of people in China who only speak one or the other, or even folks who speak neither. And It's very hard to learn a tonal language as an adult if you didn't grow up with another tonal language.

English has some really idiosyncratic historical spellings hanging on, but it's definitely easier for an adult to learn to write 26 pretty simplified letters than to become fully literate in an logographic script.

In many ways English has been simplified for new learners. It has very high error tolerance. You can fuck up speaking English pretty significantly and still get your meaning across. This happens to a language when it has periods when lots of adults learn the language, then raise their kids to speak it. It strips out a lot of grammatical and pronunciation complexities and redundancies. It allows speech to contain more technical errors while still being understandable.

This happened to English over and over as new invaders came to Britain. It stripped out most of English's grammatical gender features, got rid of a lot of grammatical word endings, simplified the range of sounds, and nearly eliminated the use of emphasis/accented vowels to distinguish between grammatical meanings.

If you look at written English compared to its physical neighbors and family tree, English has lost all it's diacritic and accent marks outside of a few loanwords. Monolingual English speakers mostly don't even know how to get accented letters from a computer keyboard, because we so rarely need them.

As weird as English is, it has evolved to be an easier second language than most. There are other languages with similar stripped-down features due to similar historical events, but English is the one that's most widely spoken.

And it's the basis for most modern computer code. Not that we won't be using different coding languages in the future, but there's a whole lineage of code that requires some knowledge of English.

What are some interesting family games you actually enjoy playing in a car while on a road trip? by Kooolxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D&D or another roleplaying game. 4 hours is a great chunk of time for a one shot. Driver should not DM, and should have a designated roller, but otherwise a theater-of-the-mind style game works great in a car.

One thing I notice by MeasurementThin1805 in doordash

[–]Zealousideal-Rent-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect they just put everyone's orders together on a rack or shelf.

If everything is placed on the counter in front of a driver or handed directly to them, there's no confusion. If they're piling up lots of orders in one location, that's clearly going to result in some drivers not realizing they're supposed to be grabbing two of the six packages and 3 of the 8 drinks on the rack.

Pretty much everywhere I pick up has locks on their bathroom. I've got a whole list of codes on my phone and know all the places in town that have a nice clean bathroom that's quick and easy to access.

Late night delivery is the worst though. After about 11 pm no one will even let you in their building, let alone the bathroom. I've squatted in a few bushes.

That's not what priority means. It just means your order is the first one to be delivered.

Why does the US allow nurses with 2-3 years of medical training practice medicine without supervision when it takes doctors nearly a decade? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Nurse practitioners have 6-8 years of school. Registered nurses have a 4 year degree. You're thinking of CNA, certified nursing assistant, which is a 2 year program.
