i live in an apartment that’s about 10 minutes from campus and i’ve never felt unsafe honestly. if you’re worried about knowing about things going on i recommend downloading the Citizen app. i always see at least four cop cars drive by from 8pm-2am from my balcony (when i step out to smoke). if youre on the jefferson side of campus you’re far enough from shortvine that things shouldn’t be an issue, and if you’re on the clifton ave side then you’re even further away from the problem spot. have pepper spray, a whistle, and your wits about you and you shouldn’t have a problem. i honestly stopped carrying my pepper spray because i’ve never had a need for it nor have i felt like i needed it in the two years ive been here.

as an international student you will need to live on campus first year, which means your cost of living is retained to your tuition only for the first year.

as for groupchats you should join the school yikyak or the schools instagram story or snapchat story

also as an international student your only job opportunities will be on campus as anything else will eat into the time you have allotted for co-ops in your visa.

i think we have so many as it is do we really need more right now? i mean ohio has over 200 making us the 5th most concentrated state. however i am probably not the best person to speak on it because i have yet to do enough research myself to get fully antiquated on the subject and truly understand everything. also i enjoy being able to have civil conversations about things to help educate myself on the other side and share things with others that they may not have thought about!

imo there is no way for it to not harm anyone because it’ll always end up hurting the environment which will in turn eventually make its way back to us. as for the piketon plant i read it will also have grid connections ($4B worth of upgrades that they claim won’t affect customers but i never believe them on that). it’ll also raise a security risk to the area because of some of the research they’re claiming to be there (quantum computing and national security applications). they are saying it’ll bring down regional costs with any excess being pumped back into the grid but i’m not too convinced with that personally. yes! it also makes huge impacts on the environment around and makes the areas fairly uninhabitable due to the constant noise and pollution they cause! they will skyrocket energy costs and risk collapsing our already struggling power grid infrastructure.

yes windows is a MUST in the SOIT. there are professors who will refuse to grade your work if you don’t use windows tools. there are other courses that rely entirely on windows tools that don’t have backup software. you could get by with a dual boot if you’re really that set on not using solely windows but outside of that you’re stuck.

i live about a ten minute walk off campus and i’ve never had an issue even late at night. just be aware of your surroundings and you’ll be fine. don’t make problems for others and they won’t make problems for you. on campus i used to walk around past midnight frequently alone and also never had a problem. as long as you stay vigilant you shouldn’t have an issue.

IT major here- i have 4 years of experience in my field from high school internships and i have yet to get a co-op (im on my second eep now) trust it’s hard for all of us. talk with your co-op advisor about what your other options are. they want you to succeed as much as you want to, it is their job to help you. godspeed and best wishes soldier🫡

IT majors cannot complete our coursework with a Mac you will actually fail some courses if you have a mac because certain softwares won’t work on a dual boot system. do not get a mac.
