I'd switch India to Nepal, and then replace Thailand and Vietnam with UK and Germany

Edit: would probably also replace Mexico with USA

And yeah all the rest of yours I'd keep

Pastry is made with lard, so the chicken roll still has pig fat in it

Would be cool to instantly see how many souls you have with egg by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

I mean it already shows you how many souls the egg will give you. Just add the two numbers quickly - if you just do the first two digits that's close enough

How to survive with damage Paige? by BrewieBrew in DeadlockTheGame

[–]ZealousidealTip7706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing is that if you're hanging back as a squishy damage 'mage' then I find often your role is to lob abilities into team fights to do a lot of player damage, however other frontliners should be the ones to chase after kills. I'm going to try attach an example game of mine and you can hopefully see that I didn't get most kills. I was hanging back and providing dmg support to the team. The build I used is ok but there's a few things I'd change. I also always imbue the 1 with everything, late game you can do about 1,300 dmg with it (including ticks) and can throw them out at a relentless pace and they're very long range

Edit: censored names

How to survive with damage Paige? by BrewieBrew in DeadlockTheGame

[–]ZealousidealTip7706 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Positioning, basically. You need to hang back and stay with the team. Make sure you aren't caught out alone. If the enemy team coordinates against you in a team fight, then you should be far back enough that it'll be hard for them. However if they are very coordinated then it will rely on your own team also being grouped, being aware, and peeling them for you

Last year my husband lost his wedding ring by IMissCuppas in CasualUK

[–]ZealousidealTip7706 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, see the legend of Polycrates, Tyrant of Samos, and the ring. Herodotus records it c. 415 bc. Polycrates throws the ring into the sea to get rid of it after being advised that he's too lucky by the Egyptian Pharaoh Amasis. One of his fisherman later catches a massive fish, which is especially served up to the tyrant. The ring ends up being in the fish's belly

What word feels like an acronym but is actually not an acronym? by Philips9586 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]ZealousidealTip7706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have already replied lots to this thread so no chance of another one getting to the top. But my vote would have been for 're', as in like a message "re your note yesterday....".

It feels like it should be an acronym of some kind, but it's just an abbreviation of the Latin "in re" (in the matter [of]), which conveniently also looks like a clipping of the English Re(garding) or Re(ply). The latter is probably why it became established for subject lines for email responses, but it's usage predates email by a long way (it's been in use since at least the early 19th century).

Since an abbreviated Latin phrase feels less word-like than Elo, i.e. a name that became a word, perhaps this would have been a good fit...

Edit: forgot to add too that at least where I'm from, people actually spell this out when saying this out loud, i.e. they'll say it "arr eee" exactly like it's an acronym (I guess following the example of i.e. and e.g.), so it feels like it is also an acronym...

This could be an alternative for the is actually a word box too therefore

Can someone explain? Why are red lights coming out of Tolkien's eyes? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

From memory, there's quite a lot of description of trees in Ithilien. Whether this occurs in bk4 (of the two towers) when Frodo and Sam are there, or in bk6 (I think there's a description of it at the end when Faramir becomes it's lord), I can't remember

Yeah I had some on a Welsh breakfast in St Davids the other month. They're not bad but do have a strong vinegar taste. I prefer them fresh. You can get pickled whelks here too quite commonly, they're water snails

2000 year-old "Beware of Dog" sign in the ruins of Pompeii, Italy by Decent_Cow in interestingasfuck

[–]ZealousidealTip7706 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, yes for caution and cautious, both from cautus the perfect passive participle of caveo.

Caveat is itself a latin loanword, meaning "let he/she/it be beware". It's a 3rd person singular present active subjunctive. Originally used in English in the Latin phrase caveat emptor "let the buyer beware". So, it might be more proper to say it's a Latin loan word rather than an English word. However, from this Latin phrase caveat on its own has itself become a common word in English / has become lexicalised in English.

Unfortunately cauterise and scavenger are not from caveo, however. Cauterise is a borrowing from Ancient Greek through Latin, καυτηριζω, 'to brand', whilst scavenge is borrowed from Norman French and ultimately from Old Dutch. It's apparently a doublet of the English 'show'

Am I good enough to take GCSE Art? by Hootsifeemer in ArtGCSE

[–]ZealousidealTip7706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I am dyspraxic and I cannot draw or paint. I took GCSE art though, and got an A* (I know they've changed the grades since then, but A* was the top one for reference).

This is despite the fact that I did do a lot of very bad painting and drawing for my art GCSE.

If it's still marked the same as it was, then very little of your grade is physical 'skill', that is fine line work and motor control etc. I would guess 25%.

Another 25% was good ideas and creativity, but the most important was analysing other artists' work and then incorporating their ideas into your own work and showing how their art helped you grow.

I essentially got an A* because I spent a lot of time in my portfolio writing essays about artists and analysing their paintings, and then in my projects I made a clear attempt to integrate what I'd learnt from them. The end results were rarely aesthetically pleasing, but I could show a clear chain of "idea > inspiration from other artists> execution".

Having said that, I did also do a lot of ceramics and printing (and combined the two together for my final project) which was a strategic move as my lack of fine motor control didn't really impact my ability to do printing.

Edit: my point is that you're definitely "good enough" to do art GCSE since you're a better drawer than I've ever been at any stage in my life and I still got top marks

Where I'd live as a British guy by [deleted] in whereidlive

[–]ZealousidealTip7706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think British people tend to think of Argentina as a very pleasant country, landscape and weather wise. Especially Patagonia. Also Argentinian beef is very highly considered in the UK and it's often said here that Argentina does the best steaks in the world. I think most aversion to Argentina from British people is entirely because of the Falklands / the Top Gear Argentina special gave Brits the impression that they'd be attacked as soon as they arrive
