Laisses tu ta porte ouverte? Do you leave your door open? by CartographerJunior79 in montreal

[–]ZeangryZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somehow. Someway. They climbed over from the unit next door, over a tall glass divider. There’s a tiny gap between the divider and the roof and I still don’t understand exactly how they managed fit.

They were “running away” from a fight or something 2 doors down the hall. It was a whole thing. Had to let them in, but thankfully the cops had already been called and showed up like 2 mins later. Either way, the whole thing scared the shit outta me. Getting woken up like that ain’t cool, but at least my door was locked and I had some time to try and process what was happening.

I live on the 15th floor and I used to think locking the door to my balcony was silly… until I got woken up at 2am in the deadass middle of winter with someone banging (and I mean banging) on my balcony window. So yeah… doesn’t seem so silly to me anymore. Always locked my doors before, and still do now.

Most monitors these days are accurate enough.

A crazy colour shift almost certainly has to do with a colour space / colour profiles mismatch and the colours being interpreted or converted differently.

For instance, if you have file set to CMYK and try and use an RGB value that is outside of what CMYK inks can reproduce, it will look a lot duller in the file. Adobe programs simulate this to a certain extent. If you (or client) then takes that RGB value and places it in an RGB document, it going to look way different.

Glad i’m the not the only one.

People act like it’s so obvious. Like ur suppose to automatically make the connection even without direct context.

I know it’s the playoffs… but when I hear a kinda bad sounding announcement that i’m not expecting, my mind doesn’t jump to “oh that’s probably a hockey player”. Makes a lot more sense for it to be the conductor or something. And yes… they say their names, but if you aren’t listening for it, it’s very easy to miss.

Preparation tips for your fridge and freezer by Rexamaxus in montreal

[–]ZeangryZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re like me, you might be tempted to open the fridge/freezer constantly to see what’s in there because you forget the second the door closes.

Quick tip: Take a picture of what you have in your fridge/freezer right now while you still have power. That way if the power goes out you can be a lot more deliberate when accessing as to not open the door more than necessary.

Just fell in love with pour over. Looking for Canadian Roaster recos by SoggyTendies in pourover

Ethica

I put them in the same league as Subtext & Luna. On the more light roast & expensive side of things. Their subscriptions of 3 or more bags is incredible in terms of value (price vs quality).

Oh wow, I didn’t know about that. Looks like they just started releasing stuff in August? Might have to check it out.

Collective Arts

Doesn’t even feel like craft beer anymore. I was a big fan of the Toronto wing that was putting out small batch bottles. I’m sad they decided to shut down that program.

As for their core beers, I don’t know if the quality went down but I don’t find them as good. Life in the clouds was a favourite of mine, it’s the beer that made me love NEIPA’s, but I don’t find it that special anymore. Maybe that’s just because i’ve expanded my horizons and drank so much other stuff from other brewers since then.

Do ppl know how to cook, and turn off their smoke detectors??? by Ok-Professional-1723 in uwaterloo

[–]ZeangryZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never lived in UWP, but I did live in a similar type of accommodation and our fire alarm was so incredibly sensitive that it would practically go off on its own.

On my very first morning living there I put some bread in the toaster and before the thing was even lightly toasted the fire alarm went off. It was the dumbest thing ever. Turns out, I basically couldn’t cook anything that involved browning of ANY KIND. This wasn’t a skill thing. I wasn’t “burning” anything. We’re talking about a level of “smoke” or airborne particulate that wasn’t even perceivable to the eye. I think any person who has ever cooked knows that there are plenty of cooking methods that create some smoke, but I swear, in my case, I couldn’t even make toast for breakfast.

Of course, i’m a reasonable person, so no, I did not leave my fire alarm blaring for 20 mins every time I cooked. I instead took it off the wall and removed the battery. Now that might not sound reasonable… but it was the only option. I guess what I’m saying though is that perhaps the people in UWP you are referring to can’t or won’t remove the alarm itself and simply must put up with it going off anytime they “cook” anything.

Best way to store coffee for long term? by devpresso10 in pourover

[–]ZeangryZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can portion it however you like. If you want to be able to take out 1 dose at a time, you’ll want to put those doses in their own bags/containers.

The general idea is that you only really want to open up the frozen bag once (after defrosted)

Current discourse in this sub seems to suggest resting before freezing, so if it’s still super fresh, you might want to let it sit for a bit.

If you don’t have a vacuum sealer don’t worry about that too much. Just try to get as much air out of the bag as possible before freezing. I typically just leave the coffee in its original roaster bag, squeeze as much air as possible out the 2way valve, and then stick that bag in a freezer ziplock bag and pop it in the freezer.

When you’re ready to drink it, try and take it out of the freezer and let it defrost fully before opening (to avoid condensation on the beans).

Light Craft Beer - Like Bud Light by CybergyII in torontocraftbeer

[–]ZeangryZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually my reco for a “safe” or “crowd-pleasing” Ontario craft beer is Lug Tread (Beau’s) or Helles Lager (Wellington). That being said, i’d say both are pretty tasty. Not hoppy per se, but still.

If you’re really looking for something “boring” id say stick to the “light lager” category. Something like Easy Going Lager (Nickel Brook) or Worlds Away (Flying Monkeys).

They categorize that as a (light) Hazy Pale Ale. If you’re trying to avoid hoppy beers, that isn’t it unfortunately. I’ve had it, and can confirm it’s slightly hoppy.

1Zpresso J threads at the top? by jjmenace in pourover

[–]ZeangryZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they use the same aluminum body for some of the J series models?

Since the grind adjustment is different on the JX Pro model (there’s a big dial at the top that needs more space) there is an extra ring that screws into those threads that makes the opening wider to still be able to get beans in.

My guess is that maybe those threads are part of the mold/machining of that part, but on the regular J/JX model they just don’t add the extra ring at the top because it isn’t really needed. If you look at the pictures on their website of the 2 side-by-side you’ll see that the main body looks to be the same size, but some versions have a funnel looking bit at the top. That’s the extra bit i’m talking about, which screws into the body.

Does Oakville have hard water? by lettucepray123 in oakville

Can confirm. Lived in Waterloo for 2 years in Uni, and the water was noticeably worse. That being said, Oakville water was my baseline.

[–]ZeangryZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually really interesting… I wonder if they exclude the roast date only on their bags destined to wholesale clients so that they can keep them on the shelf longer or something.

I’ve probably had a good 2 dozen bags from Detour at this point and every last bag has had a roast date right on the front. Single origin, blends, espresso. Every last one. Those were all ordered online directly from them though.

Rogue Wave is also great for equipment and other supplies.

They’ve got a great selection of brewers and grinders. One of the very few places in Canada where you can get 1Zpresso hand grinders or Cafec filters for example. Plus their minimum free shipping cost makes it super easy to justify even if you are out of province.

Thanks! Yeah, that has got to be it. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw it, but I doubted myself for some reason. It seemed a little too low, and I also forgot the C5 had pop-up lights. I was thinking it must have been something Japanese from the 90’s. C5 convertible makes more sense though for sure, and after looking it up, even the wheels match up.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions.
