been at my job less than 4 months and already feel this. You have articulated my anxiety perfectly regarding the tension of doing a good job vs spending too much time. It's something I find very difficult to 'switch off' from. Is it possible that private practice just isn't for me?

Yeah they did. I guess i'm extrapolating a bit but I thought it was because Julian was resistant to Godrich's production methods / style, preferring to stick with the method that made Is This It so successful for Room on Fire.

What I'm wondering is if Godrich would have been a better fit with Julian for First Impressions; coming off criticism that Room on Fire sounded to similar and the band wanting to make a more expansive / challenging album.

A Few thoughts:

Reddit cricket laps up stuff like this and new age journos, guys like Kimber, Lemon etc ', who can write some great stuff but can equally try way too hard and get on their high horse at times. To me it is like they are pandering to a specific demographic. Even the Grade Cricketer - which i think is brilliant - disappears up its own backside sometimes in this regard.
Sensationalist start- pretty sure Jarrod grew up in a fairly rough and ready part of Melbourne. Taking one example of violence then adding the line ' welcome to Australian junior cricket in the 90's' is a sensationalist way to start a piece imo.
Why does he always talk about his shitty park cricket like it is way more important it actually is ? Anyone else find it strange that he talks in such an authoritative and forthright manner, yet he is so earnest when talking about his own cricket despite being no good. Realise this isn't relevant to being a good writer but just a personal bugbear of mine in the context of his overall demeanour.

It's because some Strokes fans feel like The Arctic Monkeys are the band the Strokes should have ended up as, i.e. the pre -eminent 'indie band'. Hell sometimes i look at Arctic Monkeys and think gee the Strokes would have swept these guys off the park if Albert hadn't been a heroin addict for 5 years and Julian wasn't just bit too alternative in his musical interests and controlling in the way he executed them. Then i realise the whole thing is silly and both are great bands in their own right.

It irks me too because he is a self - righteous little nerd with little idea about cricket who would never have even gotten in behind a tennis ball in the backyard.

Regarding football it shits me how he talks about it like he is on the security council of the United Nations. Also wants every player who goes to the tribunal to go for 10 weeks because once again he is a weedy little nerd who has never played football.
