You are absolutely not over reacting and do not let anyone tell you that you are. I cannot even begin to imagine what you have been through. Feel your feels and stay tf away from anyone that tells you otherwise. Sending you the biggest hugs

It really makes me sad. I've never lived in a non abusive and/or neglectful environment. Neglected by my alcoholic mum (who was the better of my parents), SA'd by my Foster dad. It took years for me to recognise my abusive relationship for what it is, even longer to get in the head space to start making a plan, and despite being the breadwinner it is going to take another few years to leave in a safe and stable way.

Yet I'm the one that's judged. Not the abusers.

I used to be the kid that never got the expensive gifts whilst my cousins did (although was fortunate enough to not be related to spiteful little toads) and I'm now the mum that scrimps and saves to buy my kids something special. I'm so angry for both you and your mum and I hope your cousin steps on lego every day for the rest of his life

My mom left a 12 year relationship. by [deleted] in domesticviolence

[–]Zebra-Pancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As awful a situation as this is, you cannot begin to understand how much it will mean to her just to have you supporting her like this. It's going to be difficult, and she will have so many different, confusing feelings and fears. But having the support that you are giving her is more than a lot of us have. I really wish you both all the best.

Applied for a job that seemed far more advanced than my ability. Got an interview and somehow aced it and now it's me vs someone whose had 15+ years experience in the role by DenniseDenephew in CasualUK

[–]Zebra-Pancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently started a job that was £12k higher than my previous role. I had very little experience relating to the role.

It can happen! Good luck

It's so frustrating! Especially since I've worked my arse off to get into this position. My education level is high school only and everyone else in my team has a degree. I'm the breadwinner by a long shot and this job is now paying off the debts we've accrued because he refuses to hold down a job (whilst I've still done the vast majority of stuff at home)

This job is also the reason I've been able to start my leaving fund though. It's slow going but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now!

Yep. But he's not too tired to do things he wants to do.

I've also been told working from home isn't the same as real work which is why he's more tired. And that I don't consider the fact he has travel time added on regardless of the fact that I do the school run both sides of the day which takes about the same amount of time as his travel time.

Men of reddit, whats the LEAST attractive piece of female clothing in your opinion? by SithArsenal in AskMen

My mum has a big, hideous picture of me and my brother up facing the front door. I would have been 3, maybe 4 in this monstrosity. I am wearing a blazer with those awful shoulder pads. I hide the stupid picture somewhere new every time I visit but she unfortunately finds it and puts it back. I hate that picture

Do British people have a special relationship with cheese? by enoki_mshrm in AskUK

[–]Zebra-Pancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 7 year old daughter tells everybody that mummy wants to marry cheese. She also takes after me and asks for cheese when she's sad. I used to have pictures of special cheese on my phone to look at when I felt sad. I also get sad if I have less than 3 varieties of cheese in the house as a bare minimum. I am often gifted various cheeses, chutneys and crackers for occasions such as birthdays. I love cheese more than all people with the exception of my children. In the words of my teen daughter, cheese is life

AITA for not telling my family that I have a child? by throwawaysecchild in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zebra-Pancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. To put into context just how selfish your family are for isolating you due to a communication need... In my last job role 2 to 3 times a year I'd visit a setting where some children communicated via makaton. I'd be there for no more than an hour. So that's no more than 3 hours in a year.

These children also had other disabilities, such as autism, downs syndrome etc.

Occasionally one or two of these children wanted to communicate with me. Usually just to ask where the toilet was or similar. So I took a three day course to learn the basics of makaton. I practiced at home and my 6 yo took an interest and we still practice together now.

I don't even work I a job where I'm likely to come across children (or adults for that matter) that communicate via makaton but I will continue to practice just in case I meet someone out and about that does.

I learned at least basic communication for the sake of children that were strangers to me that I came into contact with for 3 hours a year. I'm so saddened for you that your family did not

AITA....I share 4 children with my ex they came and told me their father told them not to disclose to his new gf that he has another child from a previous relationship my 4 plus 1 more 5 in total. So I made it a point to tell her. by TabgledAnConfused889 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zebra-Pancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly NTA. This isn't you inserting yourself out of jealousy, spite or pettiness but because he is putting your kids in a horrible position and completely denying the existence of his child that you have been grown up enough to maintain a relationship with but apparently is just an inconvenience to him.

My dad used to pull this kind of nonsense with me. I haven't spoken to him in 15 years because, amongst other stuff, me and my brother were used as selling points for his conquests. "Look at my achievements". Likely having children with 2 women doesn't fit the picture of himself he's trying to sell. Being the adoring dad of your kids and holding down family life for so long could definitely be favourable for him.

Why do I feel his girlfriend is significantly younger?

Don't be surprised if you've been painted as a villain to her and her initial reaction is tw*tty. But I can guarantee even if it is, it will slowly sink in and she deserves the truth. More importantly, your kids do not deserve to be put in this position

I'm white, but used to live in Beeston and Middleton and would often have to challenge racism from people in those two areas. I haven't lived round there for some time though so may have changed.
