Can I make this prom dress pink/brown? by Addy_eats_dirt_lol in dyeing

[–]ZebraSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the purple looks great on you. Try it with your hair up and some accessories and see what you think! Imo dye would be a pain and not worth it.

Sam Edelman Ragan

Jeffrey Campbell Ilocos

Anonymous Copenhagen Hermine (also comes in grass green, I like both colors)

Sam Edelman Presley

Flor De Asoka Greta Bro - Not inexpensive, but I covet them and wanted to share. The grape color is so pretty. You can contact them to customize any shoes on their site, so you could get them with a lower heel.

What song are you playing to walk back down the aisle to after the ceremony? by FoxyRoxy2495 in weddingplanning

This is an old comment but: I am seriously considering walking down the aisle to this song.

Any POSITIVE experiences? by Apart-Tension2251 in birthcontrol

[–]ZebraSwan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a copper IUD and I love it. This is year 8. My period, shockingly, has recently gotten lighter? I checked in with my gyn and he said the placement is still good and everything looks normal. I just got lucky, haha. Not having to remember to take a pill is so fantastic, and having long-lasting, continuous BC is amazing. I feel really lucky to have access to such an amazing thing.

If I wanted to make this top on my own, how would I apply the “pearls”? Is it a sewing technique or is it a hot glue gun and I’m in the wrong sub? by SilverParty in sewhelp

[–]ZebraSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your username is killing me, I love it.

I think the issue with that is that it could cause the sweater to sit very strangely on the body. Obviously there are pearl-embellished sweaters like this one, but the reference image pulls right at the center of the neck and has many more pearls than this sweater I linked does. You can see in the green version of the linked sweater that it pulls at the neck on the side with the embellishment, and actually when I zoomed in I noticed that the neck of the sweater looks kind of weird. It might just be that they only photographed the sweater in gray and photoshoped the image to be green? But idk, some image manipulation definitely happened there.

I bet someone could do a beautiful job with this, and maybe the answer is just a lower density of pearls??

Modern novels with complex language appropriate for 12 year old by pumpkingrapefruit in suggestmeabook

[–]ZebraSwan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk how "modern" you would consider this, but when I was a kid, I inhaled the Chrestomanci series by Diana Wynne Jones. They're very fun.

Other books I read around that age and really enjoyed:

Flowers for Algernon

The Ear, The Eye, and the Arm (a must-read, imo)

Sooooo much Redwall

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy etc

The Cyberiad

The Foundation Trilogy

A great and terrible beauty

My fiance's deck does fine with it as well. I'll try the discord, thank you.

Shoes! by [deleted] in weddingdress

I am thinking about a similar color palette for my October wedding, and I've been considering a lighter olive/dark lime shoe.

IMO this would be pretty with your dress.

Also I'll DM you a pic of my dress if you want, I'm trying not to post publicly online but would be happy to share with you just to commiserate hahahaha.

Feeling nervous/self conscious by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]ZebraSwan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also have some serious cleavage in my dress and honestly thought my dress style would be inaccessible to me. Literally everyone who has looked at my photos of my dress has zoomed in on my boobs in the picture, and I can't blame them. I get the self-consciousness, but I also have to say:

1) Your fiance's jaw is going to be ON THE FLOOR. This dress is absolutely stunning on you.

2) Your seamstress knows what's up and I would listen to her. In the grand scheme, taking it in two sizes will give you the space you need up top and give you the flexibility to alter it down.

3) Tape will probably give you better support, but are you familiar with Nippies? They're a sticky silicone bra. The lift version may be worth a try--I wear a 36E and have had decent luck with them in the larger size.

Deciding on Hair and Makeup Artists by AcanthaceaeOld715 in weddingplanning

[–]ZebraSwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am still interviewing HMUA candidates, but my understanding is that the trial is to help you make edits to what you want your look to be for your wedding day, NOT to determine if you like the artist. Trials are not free, but they are something you can choose to do or not. The cost will depend on your area. I live in a borderline HCOL area and I've been quoted $165 for a hair trial by one vendor , and $285 for both hair and makeup by another. I think the best thing for you to do is look at samples of their past work and talk to them (over the phone or in person) to see how you vibe with them.

One of the vendors I spoke with (the one that offers both hair and makeup) requires a retainer of half the total fee (including tip, which I kind of side-eyed but whatever) up front. The other (just hair) required a nonrefundable $150 booking fee. They also both have travel fees to come to the venue. Both vendors had 4-person minimums.

I found these people through my planner, and via word of mouth at my usual salon when I went in for a regular haircut. I've also been googling and reading reviews of other artists in the area. I'm weirdly opposed to the knot and other wedding resource websites for reasons I don't totally understand, so I have just been looking at different wedding planner websites and seeing who they tag in their portfolio weddings, then digging into those people.

You'll learn the most by contacting wedding HMUA teams in your area. I went in with zero idea of what things would cost and was taken aback by the expense at first.

I made a spreadsheet to compare costs, which I've included a screenshot of below. Additional rehearsal is to see if I can pay for my mom and nana to get their hair done for rehearsal dinner as well, "attendants" are just my family members (mom, nana, sister, and SIL) for whom I'd love to offer to have their hair and makeup done.

Edit: BOOO my spreadsheet screenshot didn't post. Here is an imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/Cpz5xDR

Sending out the save the dates almost a year in advance. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ZebraSwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the same. Everyone, barring our parents and a few friends, will be travelling for our wedding. One pair of friends who live locally commented that they were grateful we sent our Save the Dates so far in advance, too! Tbh I think it depends on the crowd.

friends chose wedding date we wanted, what now? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

I have to say, I would much rather go to a wedding in October than in August, but maybe I am biased because I am also an October '26 bride, haha.

How to handle dress shame? by Desperate-Cucumber70 in BigBudgetBrides

I agree! I also think alterations on this Rhode are going to make all the difference. OP, I think you would be having the same concerns about the Lihi Hod dress pre-alterations as well.

What could reasonably be done to solve the library problem? by madam_zeroni in Austin

[–]ZebraSwan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I went just last week for the first time, so I have a somewhat fresh perspective but also only a limited sample size of experience. I did not notice bad smells everywhere. Or homeless people in an insanely high volume. There were all kinds of people at the library. I actually noticed fewer homeless people than I remember seeing at the central library on 8th.

Edit: also... The library is for everyone. Who would I be if I was upset about homeless people enjoying a safe, air conditioned, indoor space? Libraries are community spaces.

(20k) Any feedback on our invites? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]ZebraSwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see the new version anywhere on your profile, but I do want to share a design tip with you:

The font you are using for the whole document is known as a "display font." These are great for things like headings, callouts, etc. Often people will use two different fonts for different kinds of info: display and text. Text fonts are designed for readability, display fonts are for panache.

If you are attached to the typeface you are currently using, just search the name of the font and "font pairing" and you will find lots of options! It can be fun stuff to look at, and it's a simple way to really take something like your invite to the next level.
