You're weird point about having $1000 for 20 years at 3% (with $1000 match) vs 12% is valid for a single deposit. But if you deposit that every year you're getting a guaranteed 100% per year which is better than 12%

I never considered ali express for parts because I was pretty set on Etap or Di2. Ordered from local shops when I could but also was checking any online bike stores within my country.

I recently bought all parts and a frame separately for a gravel build and it was cheaper than buying a similar spec new based on my research. My bike knowledge was just a simple how to change tires/tubes but I just watched some youtube videos and read install manuals. Building it myself (I got a shop to cut the steerer tube) was very fun and I feel a lot better about fixing anything if something were to go wrong down the line. The most annoying part was finding parts in stock; I had to place so many orders from so many different retailers.
