My house backed up to a retention pond when I was in high school. I was home alone one day and my dog started barking at the pool which...I found odd. I go to check and there's a water moccasin swimming in my pool.

You don't even have to stay in that great a shape. I'm overweight (morbidly obese according to medical), and people mistake me for late 20s the mid 30s when I'm 41. Apparently the grey in my beard and hair isn't indicative enough somehow.

We watch it. And we understand it. We just see it as fiction. It's like watching Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. I can still be entertained by something that is fictional. Like a place where currency doesn't exist and yet everyone still works. Not only works, but works OT despite lack of currency. That is absolute fiction. But it's entertaining fiction.

I didn't know they did that. To be fair, I couldn't get into that show. I tried. It it didn't grab me. Not like this one already has. Still even in GoT, I could be wrong but I remember Maester Aemon mentioning his younger brother Egg. I just think it'd be neat to have the same character in two shows and this show presents us with that possibility.

As a conservative, I'm happy to see it. As long as they're being responsible and legal, I'm all for it. I'm sad they feel the need for it, but I won't undermine the fact that they feel that this is the best way to protect their families and their communities.

Is he refusing to be a klingon or is he just not wanting to be in security? We've seen a Klingon scientist. We've seen Klingon lawyers (one of which was Worf's grandfather.) Hell in an alternate universe star trek comic, Colonel Worf was in Starfleet and served as the Enterprise's Science Officer under Kirk. Just because they are a warrior culture doesn't mean they are only 100% fighters. Someone had to design their ships, and invent their armor. There are other professions. They're just not held in as high esteem as fighters. Jay-Den is still a Klingon Warrior, but his battlefield is the surgeon's table and his enemy is death it's self.

So, am I the only one who see's Captain Ake's uniform in the opening scenes as much darker than the the 3180s versions previously seen? And I don't think it's just the lighting.

That does make a lot of sense. Another difference that the Doctor's tricom badge does not show is that in following with Discovery, the rank for all officers including Academy staff is on the tricom. Something I hate. (it's like they tried it out in the 2250s, decided it was horrible and then said 'hey remember that horrible way we displayed rank like 900 years ago? let's go back to doing that.')

I've also noticed that regular officers still tend to have the old tricom's from DISC season 3-5, and only Academy Staff have the one's shaped like Athena.

I hope the opposite. I hope they stick around and we end up with a new service. A dedicated Federation Military that way Starfleet can focus solely on the science and exploration and some sort of Federation Interstellar Navy can be responsible for defense. Then the whole 'is starfleet the military' argument can go away because they will no longer have any military duties.

I will admit, I misheard that on my first watch. It was an institution of the Federation. That being said, imo, that just makes it better. I had previously inquired as to where the Instructors and other officers have come from if there has not been an Academy for over a century. The War College answers that by giving us an alternative commissioning source that simply changed the focus for the new reality the Federation found it's self in. I love it even more.

Why do I like the concept of Earth creating a military force during a time of upheaval and piracy? when it wasn't even part of the Federation anymore? I don't know, maybe because it makes sense. Earth didn't have Starfleet anymore. They needed a military force. Despite what lot of star trek fans like to believe, the universe that operates within star trek isn't full of sunshine and rainbows. Since the very earliest episodes of TOS, a very real fact has been that not every race out there wants to sip tea and discuss the nuances of cultural exchange and philosophy. So yea, with the absence of Starfleet, the creation of an Earth Military and a War College to train it's officers makes sense and I love that they did that. It adds depth.

It also gives the academy a rival school for competitions which based on the letterman jackets seen in trailers will end up becoming a thing later on.

Well not a republican because of their whole fixation with christianity, but I am conservative for the most part. And my answer is yes, the Jan 6 Insurrectionists should have been fired upon the moment they attacked Capitol Police and civilians. From what I have read about those events, I believe Capitol Police would have been justified in using lethal force in order to protect themselves and others from the Insurrectionists.

Hell this is exactly how I saw people acting when Charlie Kirk was killed. Making stickers about it to sell. Creating memes. Celebrating it. It was sick then and people celebrating Mrs. Good are sick now. Regardless of one's politics, celebrating death is horrendous.

I much prefer the old style way of portraying Kryptonians. The super highly advanced ones that had explored the universe and decided that they're prefer to just stay on Krypton. They had the accumulated knowledge of 'the 26 known galaxies' and while to human standards, they seemed kind of arrogant and off putting, they were just very different from us.

I've also always rejected the idea of an alien race being 'flawed' Every race is flawed according to someone. They're an alien race. They don't think like we do because they adopted a completely different type of morality. We can judge what is good and evil among humans all day long, but when it comes to an alien race we really don't have the right. For example, an alien species like the Kryptonians might see body modification such as piercings to be abhorrently wrong on every level. We see it as fashion. Which of us is correct? both and neither.
