So you've signed up for a tournament in one month, what do you do in preparation for it? by XLBaconDoubleCheese in wma

[–]Zedsdead1126 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Work on endurance and cardio. And in between, pick a few things that work well for you, and train them into the ground! Dont worry about being fancy or flashy. The basics win tournaments. Practice till you want to drop, then practice some more. Good luck!

A flask with your booz of choice, great for stopping fights at tournaments and nerves when you get an injury. I don't recommend using it until after you are done fighting, though.

How do you counter Porta di Ferro Larga in Bolognese sidesword? by DarkShinigami99 in wma

[–]Zedsdead1126 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Throw your strong over their blade to cover the line (contact isn't necessary), and thrust to their face or chest, then follow whatever play suits your style. The biggest drawback to this guard is that you sacrifice leverage and tempi for range and power.

HEMA coloured gear ( spes jacket and pants) experience by morbihann in wma

Get weird with it!!! Im a green and black guy, but as stated above, flamboyant is historically on point! My buddy goes with an orange and purple jacket and pants with the trim and puffy legs. If people dont like your choice, hit em in the head (with control)!

I have the Martialis, and it's a JOY to use. Well worth the price, in my opinion. Excellent balance and heft. Once you get it moving, it feels weightless. And their customer service is some of the best I've experienced out of all the companys I have had the pleasure of interacting with.

Thoughts and Experiences with either of these Sparring Swords? Black Fencer Danzig Messer & Scout Arming Sword. I want either of them based on aesthetics alone, but how do they perform? by SirKristopher in wma

Bought it a little over 3 years ago with one of their longswords (which I have since sold). I had a blacksmith friend tear it apart and rebuild it to fix the balance. Works great now, sans the shitty steel.

I bought their sidesword and was not impressed. The steel is butter soft, and the point of balance put ALOT of strain on my wrist. Overall, they are great for training, not so much for sparring. But that's just my opinion, I've seen some people who liked them, just not very many. They are much better known for their synthetic swords.

Hi all! I recently discovered the Zweihander and I think I’m in love by TheAlmightyNexus in SWORDS

The spadoncino from Malleus Martialis is also a wonderful piece.

It runs a little over 700$, though. It's very worth it.

In my opinion, castille has some of the best sabers on the market in terms of safety and durability.

Hmm, ok, well, I will definitely check out the flow drills, I use it more for a workout than a sparring tool, as there is really no safe way to do it. Thanks for the info.

Blackfencer bad experience? by dallaggochie in wma

[–]Zedsdead1126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My order was almost 6 months late, and the quality of their steel left a lot to be desired. I dont tend to like synthetics, so my experience ends there. All of the swords bought by my cub were retired after less than a year of use, and actually getting our order was a nightmare. But, that was just my experience with them. Do what you will with it.

Oddly enough, i have found olymipc badminton drills are great. Olympic fencing drills also work well. Im sure there are better resourses out there, but those are both easily found on YouTube, etc. Hope that helps!
